By now you know dude threw 7 TDs tonight. Needs 44 more, for a total of 51, to break the record. Remaining schedule:

@ Giants
vs. Raiders
vs. Eagles
@ Cowboys
vs. Jaguars
@ Colts
vs. Redskins
@ Chargers
vs. Chiefs
@ Patriots
@ Chiefs
vs. Titans
vs. Chargers
@ Texans
@ Raiders

44 TDs divided by 15 games is essentially 3 TDs per game. I think he'll have 3 TDs on the table in each of those games except for Houston, New England and maybe Dallas. Obviously the game of football unfolds as it does and he may be in games where he can win without having to throw, but the opportunities will be there for him. Plus he has a home game against Jacksonville, and if he was able to get 7 on Baltimore he should be good for like 23 against the Jags. Also will probably rape his division opponents fairly consistently. And he's probably had that game against the Colts circled since he signed his contract with Denver. I think the Colts D is going to be a lot better than advertised this season, but I'm not dumb enough to suggest they can hold Peyton Manning down. He'll probably blow us out viciously.

We'll keep track of his progress in this thread. I think he can do it.

He would had broken the single game record if the Ravens would have kept it close

Well he won't get 7 every week, but if you're going to throw 51 TDs in a season, the Broncos have just about the perfect schedule to do it with.

Very possible. I'd also like to point out that when Peyton tossed 49 TD's in 2004, he did that by Week 16. Played one series in Week 17 and went to the bench to rest for the playoffs. Brady needed all 17 games to get 50 in 2007.

Not with Peyton. I admire this man and love watching him play, but I also fear him. What really fucking sucks is the only way Eli will get his 3rd ring is by beating Peyton. A Manning SB is the only way either of these QB's will be getting back to the big game. This is the fate the football Gods have decided.

Peyton had two TD passes yesterday. He's up to 9 now, putting him right at needing 3 per game for the rest of the season. Gets the Raiders at home next week, he should get 3.

I don't know, Montana is still my guy. But Peyton has definitely been my favorite player to watch the past decade or so. Just in terms of execution and the approach to the game, I could watch him play forever. It's going to suck for the league when he retires.

To JT's point, it will be interesting if he can catch Brady's 50 TD season. Manning made 49 with a lot less attempts and sat a lot in the fourth. That Patriots team in 2007 was running up the score on everybody, it was basically their "fuck you for catching us cheating, now we have to be more subtle" period.

Gotta wonder if Fox will sit out Manning as much as Dungy did, may not make a difference with the way the offense is moving.

Honestly, I watched every snap of Elway's career and I've watched two seasons of Manning....I don't know if I'm totally comfortable saying this, but I think Manning is as good if not better than Elway.

Elway would routinely throw 40 yard lasers and hit his recievers in stride across the middle, and that is something that Manning doesn't really do. However, what puts Manning in the elite category over Elway (IMO) is the command he has for the offense. Elway ran the plays that were called for him and didn't audible much, Manning runs the entire fucking thing.

Having said that, Elway single handidly carried three mediocre teams to three Super Bowls. He lost all three, and it wasn't until he had a complete team that he actually won a couple of them, but I don't think Manning could compensate the way Elway could.

So I may have just talked myself out of Manning being better, but I will tell you, 15 seasons of Elway were incredible to watch, and the past 2 seasons with Manning have been just as much fun.

Regular season, Manning is the greatest ever and it's not close. Elway's regular season #s are less than spectacular.

But come winning time in the playoff winter cold, Elway would put the team on his back and drag them to playoff wins like nobody I've ever seen.

Everyone remembers the Drive, but his game/4th quarter drive against Moon and the Oilers is never talked about but equally beastly.

My favorite one is actually pretty obscure. It was against the Redskins in the early 90's. Game winning touchdown pass to Rod Smith with zero time on the clock. It was Rod Smith's first ever reception and it was a diving game winner across the middle of the endzone.

I still think Smith deserves to be in the HOF.

For whatever reason, it's hard for WRs to get into the hall.

I was a Moon/Oiler/run and shoot fan in the early 90s.

I think it was divisional playoff game 91. Oilers lead 24-23. Broncos had no timeouts. Less than a minute on their own 30. 4th and 10 and horse tooth scrambles and finds a dude for about 30 yards. Broncos run time down and kick field goal.

Personally, I think that loss sucked more than the Bills comeback.

Peyton has had his share of playoff failures, but his supporting cast is usually mediocre, including last year, tbh..

This year's Broncos roster is stacked on both sides of the ball + the best ST unit in the NFL, tbh:lol..the running game is still erratic but improving..the weak link on the team is John Fox, but according to sources around the team, Fox barely does any coaching anymore:lol..

Manning will win the SB this year, barring injury, and he will be proclaimed the greatest of all-time..

Yeah, that's pretty true but I mean, the game changes over time in any sport. It's a lot harder to play defense in the NBA now too because of rule changes, and that sport especially can definitely be impacted by the refs. The NFL not so much, there are some famous bad calls that impacted games but only maybe three or four of them you can say were such shitty calls that it cost the team it screwed over the win. In football, it's hardly ever one play that swings a game unless it's a clutch scoring play or defense stop with time running out.

I wasn't saying you did. Today's NFL is more pass happy because of the rule changes back in 2003 and the more recent ones about defenseless receivers and helmet-to-helmet contact. You're right about Marino, he'd probably win Super Bowls in this era.

50 TD's (Brady)
5,476 Yards (Brees)
122.5 Passer Rating (Rodgers)
71.2% Completion Percentage (Brees)

Peyton Manning

Through 6 Games: 2,179 Yards, 22 TDs, 128.8 Passer Rating, 74.2% Completion Percentage

Pace: 5,811 Yards, 59 TDs, 128.8 Passer Rating, 74.2% Completion Percentage

The Patriots had better rosters in the years before Welker. Were a defensive minded team that would run the ball well

I could also spin it to say:

Patriots when Brady throws less than 4,000 yards and 30 touchdowns = 3-0
Patriots when Brady throws more than 4,000 yards and 30 touchdowns = 0-2

Brady has had his best individual seasons when Welker was around, and I don't find that to be a coincidence

J.T.
10-30-2013, 12:33 AM
When Manning initially broke the TD record in 2004, he had far more cheap TD passes than he has this season. The only reason I'm in Manning's corner as far as taking back this record is concerned is because Brady plays for the fucking Patriots. I have a lot of respect for Brady because a lot of people bag on him for not being able to win the Super Bowl without a stacked defense, but he gets his team to the playoffs every year now. He's basically become Peyton Manning. But the Patriots can fuck a duck.

J.T.
10-30-2013, 12:38 AM
Fuck Houston for not selling out to go after Peyton.

Peyton wouldn't have tried to Favre the Colts like that. I think the reason he stayed in the AFC was so that he could play against the Colts without Favreing them. That shit about not wanting to ELIminate his brother from the NFC playoffs is a massive smoke screen.

The decision was always:

Luck = 22 years old, $22M for 4 years and likely that he develops into a long term elite QB

Manning = 36 years old, $23M just for 2012 and uncertainty of regaining his arm strength and remaining elite

Easy decision. If Manning wanted to stay a Colt forever, he shouldn't have lost Super Bowl 44.

I'd say the odds are in his favor but not a "lock" just yet. He still has to play the Chiefs twice, and throwing 3+ TD passes against that D isn't easy. Also, he could be sitting on 47-48 TDs heading into week 17, and his team might already have the AFC #1 seed locked up. Does he play just to go for the record? Should be fun to watch. I think he gets it, but I'll wait a few more games to consider it a lock.

Meh, the year before we won our first Super Bowl, we got upset by the Jags, then the Chiefs went onto win the division, we were the fifth seed, then we won the first championship.

Last week we got upset by Baltimore, now KC will win the division and we will win the Super Bowl.

Also, manning is the same age elway was

It's just history repeating itself tbh.

Only 1 TD pass last night and he still has to play the Chiefs again at Arrowhead. It appeared he would shatter the record a couple of weeks ago, but the Denver game plans have become more conservative. Now it looks like it will come down the wire. 6 games remaining, 17 touchdowns to go.

Remaining schedule:
vs. Titans
vs. Chargers
@ Texans
@ Raiders

We'll keep track of his progress in this thread. I think he can do it.
41 tds going into todays Titan game. 10 to tie, 11 to break. Very doable.

4,125 yards or
5,476 yards
Needs 1,351. That will be tough to get.

Key point here to me is will Texans mail it in or play hard for their new coach?

He only needs 6 more TD's for the record, not 7. He currently has 45. And he needs 955 yards to break Brees' single season passing yards record. If the Pats win their next 2 games, then Manning will have to play week 17.

You are right, after last night he needs 4 in two games. Needs to average 346 yards in the last two games to get the passing yards record, touchdowns should be a lock with Oakland and Houston as the last two opponents.

If current seeding holds and the 3 and 4 seed both win, that would be the Colts eliminating him from the playoffs. Oh the irony.

Also Manning currently needs 22 TDs to pass Favre for No. 1 on the all-time TD passes list. Crazy. He's thrown 88 TDs as a Bronco in two seasons with one game remaining.
