Oregon once ran a world record 4x1 relay which is very rare for a college team. Three off the members on that team were footballers.

On this team they have the best 110 hurdler in the nation in Devon Allen.

Now add...

JJ Birden
Latin Berry
Pat Johnson
Sammie Parker
LaMichael James
DeAnthony Thomas

all track guys.

Did they play all their track guys on the D-Line last night? All I was Oregon's D-Line getting consistently beat off the line.

Do they teach sprinters how to tackle. You can have all the speed in the world but if you don't have the ability to catch, tackle, make good football decisions you are just wasting speed and are essnetially worthless on a football field.

Time to go back to the old folks home and regal the guy in the corner who has his hearing aid turned off about young dudes 100 meter times.

Don't need sprinter speed to win championships. Just need good enough speed.

Ollie Matson...what?

yep...has 2 Olympic medals in the 400m and 400m relay sprints...a #1 draft pick...let the nation in rushing yards and TD's in college.

Exception, not the rule. There are exceptions to most general rules. When you start to make assertions based upon those exceptions you lend yourself making less accurate decisions.

is there anyone else?

Sure...how about...

Robert Lee Hayes.
Who's that?
Oh...you might now him as "Bullet Bob".

Yep...pretty fast guy. Olympic medals. World record times. Caught the pigskin for the Dallas Cowboys back in the 60s and 70s. Had to change the rules because he was so dominant.

I am sure there are others you can name. But like said these two (provided) are the exceptions to the rule. Nothing worng with being the exception.

Hard not to think that.

hmmmm....good question....

let's not forget....

Willie Gault...cat could fly. Would have been an Olympian would it not have been for the damn Ruskies in 1980.

But fast? a sprinter? he was both. Part of a record setting 4x100 team with...Carl Lewis.

Now...his football career. Got a Super Bowl ring and has been mentioned as an addition to a future HOF ballot. Me? don't think he'll make it but just to be in the conversation. We're not talking about Renaldo Nehemiah here.

Jordy Nelson a Kansas State champ in the 100/200/400.

Anyone playing this silly.....football is football and track is track....obviously knows nothing about either.

The Chiefs Jamaal Charles a sprinter/hurdler while at Texas. Randy Moss won his league in the indoor 60/200m while at Marshall.

The great Bullet Bob Hayes was a running back who just happened to be the fastest human in the world.

Guys like Deion Sanders, Bo Jackson, Herschel Walker, Randy Moss, Eric Dickerson, Darrel Green** all knew football was their $$$$ future, so their track exploits suffered, all in that coulda/shoulda category. The same can be said about Tony Dorsett, who obviously had some serious jets.

** while at Texas A&I he ran a 10.08 which was one of the fastest times in the world, if not for football he would have been an Olympian. Bob Hayes 100m PR 10.06.

Right now Buffalo has...

C.J.Spiller
Marquise Goodwin
Robert Woods
Sammy Watkins

..all track studs in school. Goodwin an Olympian.

The Chiefs have the fastest back in the league in Jamaal Charles. That team has drafted....

Ken Thomas 10.0m, injury ruined his career
Stone Johnson, died after a preseason game, an Olympian.
Joe Delaney a 9.4 guy who had over a 1000 yards as a rookie, he drowned.
Sammie Parker 10.17
Eddie Kennison an NFL Fastest Man winner
Warren McVea 9.5

Then there's the Raiders who could put together a track team that could beat most countries, dead serious.

Oregon hurdler/footballer Devon Allen was just ranked number 10 in the world by the Bible of the sport Track & Field News.

The last NCAA running back to world ranked was Curtis Dickey Texas A&M. he was a 10.10/9.2 guy at 215 pounds. Huge thighs.

And look at what drafting for "speed" has done for the Raiders in the past 20 years. Other than a couple fluke seasons with Gruden, they've been the laughingstock of the NFL.

Football skill > track speed

When you say "all" and include a guy doesn't met that requirement, you can't use the word "all" Pretty sad when you don't know the definition of a 3 letter word.

Do you know anything at all about this? You know how much $$$$$$ difference there is between a 4.40 and a 4.60 when dealing wide wide receivers? Why were NFL scouts not that high on Jerry Rice, yep, his 40 times.

There were a few guys....

Jimmy Hines
Tommie Smith
John Carlos
Ray Norton

...who weren't footballers, they were Olympic sprinter that ....tried....to play football. That isn't who is on those long lists above, those were ....footballers who also ran some track...ok? Just think Tyreek Hill...ok?

The Dallas Cowboys drafted Carl Lewis and the 400m WR holder John Smith, neither were footballers.

What is Urban Myers trying to do at Ohio State, yep, bring in that SEC speed. How many times have we heard that?

Anyone into the NCAA game has read/heard.....SEC SPEED....so why act stupid?
