Week 2
1
Texas A&M Aggies
1
Rick Epstein: The most anticipated rematch since the Thrilla in Manila. Aggies have given up an average of 29.5 points to two teams whose only resemblance to the Tide are the Gatorade containers the teams have on the sideline. Can the Aggies knock off Saban and the boys two years in a row?
2
Baylor Bears
2
Jake Shaw: A bye week is the only thing that can stop the Baylor offense right now.
3
TCU Horned Frogs
4
Adam Hochfelder: TCU sleepwalked through most of the game on Saturday along with a half empty Amon Carter Stadium. Still, if you can play at 50% and still win by 21 with your backup QB, maybe that is a good thing? The trick is never letting that happen vs. FBS teams.
4
Texas Tech Red Raiders
5
Brad Hilliard: Baker Mayfield and Kliff Kingsbury have gotten off to a precocious start in Lubbock, but a win over TCU this Thursday would really be a signal of advanced development in the new era of Red Raider football.
5
Texas Longhorns
3
Jake Shaw: As bad as it was in Provo, I wonder if Mack Brown overreacted by firing his DC and giving the job to a TV analyst.
6
Rice Owls
6
Greg Tepper: A year ago, Rice stunned Kansas in Lawrence with a game-winning last-second field goal. Things have changed so much that it would be a relative disappointment if the Owls don't best the Jayhawks in Houston this Saturday.
7
Houston Cougars
7
Rick Epstein: Cougars are 2-0 with a bye week going into the BIG ONE against Rice. Needed an NFL-like 5 field goals to put away Temple.
8
UTSA Roadrunners
10
Jake Shaw: When the football team catches up with its crowd support, the Roadrunners will be hard to beat.
9
North Texas Mean Green
8
Adam Hochfelder: The good news is the team in green won on Saturday; just not the Mean Green variety. North Texas needs to win games like this to get to a bowl.
10
SMU Mustangs
9
Brad Hilliard: The Mustangs’ open date will be no vacation, as they have to prepare for back-to-back trips to College Station and Fort Worth in the coming weeks.
11
Texas State Bobcats
11
Jake Shaw: Sure, it's only Prairie View A&M, but your Texas State Bobcats are 2-0 for the first time as an FBS program. That -- along with the progress that QB Tyler Arndt has made -- is worth celebrating.
12
UTEP Miners
12
Greg Tepper: Even with a loss, this is a positive first step toward respectability for the Miners, taking New Mexico to overtime. Freshman RB (and pride of El Paso Burges) Aaron Jones looks like the real deal. If Jameill Showers can settle into his new role as starting QB, there's progress to be made this year.
Rice might be better than UT imo. Other than that looks pretty good.
