The history of the Los Angeles Lakers suggests they should be able to bring aboard a major star in 2014, when they could have large salary cap space. Some members of the Lakers' management, however, have long faces -- particularly when it comes to potentially signing LeBron James next summer.

"Within the organization there isn't a single person that believes we can bring LeBron aboard," one source close to Lakers management said.

"I don’t know if we’ll get a star player," Mitch Kupchak recently said.

Two reasons the Lakers are not in strong position to land a star is they might not have all that much cap space and Kobe Bryant has gained a reputation as a difficult teammate.

Ramon Sessions left the Lakers for the Charlotte Bobcats in free agency last offseason and sources with knowledge of his thinking say tricky Laker politics, where the blame tends to fall everywhere but with Bryant, was also on his mind.

“Pau [Gasol] is a two-time champion and a five-time All-Star and he’s one of the most disrespected players ever,” notes one agent. “He gets bad press all the time.”

When another agent with a Lakers client was asked if he thought Bryant might be a sticking point for free agents, his immediate response: "Uh, duh. Yes."

:lmao Lakers
:lmao Fredo

No one is headed there until Bryant is gone and even when he retires, that won't bring old man Buss back from the dead. The Lakers and their fans are about to find out what it's like to be just another middle of the pack team for the foreseeable future.

Given how often the Lakers management has been wrong recently, I'd say that is some good news for their fans.

Why would he even leave the Heat? If they win once more, every free agent will be at their door and the team will remain strong for another half-decade.

This is news? I find it funny that fans of teams that either won "at least one playoff game" or 56-regular season games or participated in the Finals is continually talking about the Lakers. Even when the obvious is not newsworthy. Nothing else to talk about? Your team isn't exciting enough? Pathetic tbh. :lol

Exactly. Besides, the Lakers didn't need MJ to earn 16 LOBs. Why would anyone in their right mind think we need LBJ? We're down for now, but we're the Lakers. How long will that last? :lol

1. They just needed dominant big men for all of their history.

2. For eternity

This came from a source though. Not directly to the media like when Mitch pretends he isn't gonna make a move. Besides, if Dwight fuckin Howard doesn't wanna play with an old decrepit Nash and eternal ballhog Kobe, then who will?

It'll last at least for as long as Kirby's there to hog cap space, chuck bricks, and drive away any worthwhile free agent with his selfish attitude, tbh.... probably it'll last even longer than that due to Fredo's mismanagement of the franchise....

half this forum is laker fans trying to troll, so shitting on the lakers is definitely noteworthy. if hordes of spurs fans went to lakersground and started talking smack, they would get banned. instead of getting banned here, we play ball

i'd say the ratio is a lot smaller nowadays. there's only probably 4-5 lakers fans that still posts here.

Jerry Buss coming back from the dead is more likely to happen than Lebron signing for the Lakers, tbh.

This is what happens when Kobe tries to be an alpha. If only he returns to the type of player that he once was in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2009 and 2010.......

if LeBron joins essentially any NBA team (minus the bobcats, etc.) they'd be instant favorites. that's a standard kobe would never live up to
