Artists can sell directly to their customers now, too and avoid the labels entirely. Giving 30% to Apple compared to the peanuts they may get from a label is a pretty good thing, assuming you can pay for your own studio/production. There are still legitimate rappers out here with something valid to say, but their numbers are decreasing by leaps and bounds these days. The genre has pretty much run its course and is dying.
In the near future we will see the exceptions rather than the rule as a new form of music genre replaces it.
