It has been the best for awhile but mostly because of the defenses in the past. This season is different since alot of the defenses are down, but the offenses are really explosive especially A&M, Georgia, and LSU. Those 3 teams can score 40 on most defenses.

The D... Not good. Forget the points, some poor UT tackling.
Easy schedule for a good amount of time.
Lets see if Aggie chokes. I don't think JFF lets that happen.
aggie defense will be anemic the whole season. they have very little depth and are playing way too many true freshmen. As talented as those freshmen are, they are too undersized. that will not change until they get an offseason's worth of training to bulk up. the secondary will probably be the only portion of the defense that will see any significant improvement over the course of the season.

I said I didn't watch the game, but the score tells all (i.e., as in, the score is indicative of what happened in THAT game.) But of course SEC defenses are generally overrated. South Carolina was pathetic last night.
Even against good offenses, a decent defense does not give up yards and points like the Cocks did.

Well LSU had a rough start defensively but dominated the 2nd half. I was at the game. Once LSU shut down Wisconsin's running game, the Badgers were done.
SEC's defenses aren't as dominate anymore. That's a known fact. But I would still take their defenses over any other conferences for now.

Not convinced till they play better teams. I wouldn't be surprised if my South Alabama Jags put up close to 30 against MSU in two weeks. MSU never plays anyone outside of conference and when they play a good team, they get hammered. Overrated program.

I wish I had known you were going to the game. Some friends and I road tripped to Houston for it. Did you go to the pre-game tailgate in the NRG Center? When it was 24-7, I must admit that I thought it was over. I just didn't see anything to make me believe that our offense could produce enough points for a comeback. Thankfully the team showed a lot of grit, and the coaches finally figured out that if you don't let Wisconsin run the ball up the middle, they can't do shit otherwise. It's looking like another 9-3 season, maybe even 8-4.

Actually he didn't. Florida's offense wasn't that good when they won the title in 2006. They had a very dominant defense but won alot of close games. The only game their offense blew up was in the title game against Ohio State.
Back to SEC Defenses, only a handful of teams had elite talent on defense before A&M arrived. Bama, Georgia, South Carolina, Florida, and LSU. Bama had trouble against A&M, but LSU's defense made A&M and any other spread offenses their bitches in recent history.

They're not in first. Nobody said they were. Stanford is.

LOL...using a fact that says the SEC is in 1st place and turning it into a SEC defenses suck argument.

Thankfully, you don't have to be all that good at math to crunch some numbers from the 2014 NFL Draft (http://www.nfl.com/draft/2014) and the four drafts that preceded it.
Here are some of those numbers, which illustrate the dominance of the SEC, the high demand for cornerbacks in the NFL and the inexact science of rating high school recruits, among many other interesting NFL trends:
» The 2014 NFL Draft (http://www.nfl.com/draft/2014) marked the eighth year in a row in which the SEC had the most draftees, with 49.
» For the fourth year in a row, the SEC had the most first-round draftees, with 11. It's also the fourth year in a row the league has had double-digit picks in the first round. Only one other conference has had even eight in the first round in that span (the Big 12 twice, with nine in 2010 -- when it had the most first-rounders -- and eight in 2011).
» Over the past five drafts, the SEC blows away the field when it comes to draft picks, with 241. In second, 72 picks behind, is the ACC with 169. The rest of the FBS leagues in the past five drafts: Big Ten with 154, Pac-12 with 150, Big 12 with 124, the now-defunct Big East (for football) with 73, the Mountain West with 58, Conference USA with 45, the now-defunct Western Athletic 40, the Mid-American with 31, independents with 26 and the Sun Belt with 24. (Important to note: The league affiliation matches up with the conference the school was in at the time of the draft, i.e., Missouri in the Big 12 from 2010-12 and the SEC in 2013-14.)
» The SEC also blows away the field in first-round picks over the past five years, with 50. In second is the Big 12 with 27. The rest: The ACC with 21, the Big Ten with 18, the Pac-12 with 17, the Big East with six, independents with five, the AAC and MAC with four each, the Mountain West and WAC with three each and Conference USA with two.

» There were 19 defensive players selected in the first round this year, the third consecutive draft in which more defensive players were taken than offensive players in the first round. The 19 selected this year is the highest number for defenders since 19 were taken in the first round in 1990.
» This was the fifth consecutive year Alabama had multiple picks in the first round, which sets a record.
» Most first-round picks by school since the common draft started in 1967: USC with 66, Miami and Ohio State with 56 each, Florida with 43, Alabama with 41, Florida State with 40, Notre Dame and Tennessee with 39 each and Michigan and Penn State with 34 each. Of those schools, all but Miami, Penn State and USC had first-rounders this year.
» This was the fourth consecutive year that Texas A&M had at least one player selected in the top 10: Von Miller (http://www.nfl.com/player/vonmiller/2495202/profile) in 2011, Ryan Tannehill (http://www.nfl.com/player/ryantannehill/2532956/profile) in 2012, Luke Joeckel (http://www.nfl.com/player/lukejoeckel/2540139/profile) in 2013 and Mike Evans (http://www.nfl.com/player/mikeevans/2543468/profile) and Jake Matthews (http://www.nfl.com/player/jakematthews/2543758/profile) this year. NFL Media senior analyst Gil Brandt believes an Aggies offensive tackle will extend the school's top-10 pick streak to five next year (http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000350210/article/brandt-cedric-ogbuehi-should-be-texas-ams-next-top10-pick).
» Alabama free safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix (http://www.nfl.com/player/hahaclinton-dix/2543470/profile) went in the first round, to Green Bay. He is the fifth Crimson Tide defensive back to go in the first round in the past five drafts. Alabama has had nine defensive backs drafted in that span.
» UCLA guard Xavier Su'a-Filo (http://www.nfl.com/player/xaviersu'a-filo/2543666/profile) was a second-round pick, to Houston. He is just the second Bruins offensive lineman drafted since 1999.
» Clemson had two wide receivers drafted this year, Martavis Bryant (http://www.nfl.com/player/martavisbryant/2543572/profile) and Sammy Watkins (http://www.nfl.com/player/sammywatkins/2543457/profile). It's the first time since 1979 that Clemson had multiple receivers taken in the same draft. In '79, the Tigers had three receivers drafted: Jerry Butler, Dwight Clark and Stan Rome.
» Miami QB Stephen Morris went undrafted, meaning UM hasn't had a quarterback taken in the draft since 2003 (Ken Dorsey); it has had just two drafted since 1993 (Gino Torretta is the other). The school had four first-round quarterbacks from 1983-89.
» Michigan had two offensive tackles drafted, Taylor Lewan (http://www.nfl.com/player/taylorlewan/2550132/profile) and Michael Schofield (http://www.nfl.com/player/michaelschofield/2543732/profile). Still, that means just five Wolverines offensive tackles have been selected since 1999 (three of those have been first-rounders), a low number for a school that prides itself on big, physical offensive lines.
» Kelvin Benjamin (http://www.nfl.com/player/kelvinbenjamin/2543471/profile) went in the first round, to Carolina. He was the first Florida State wide receiver drafted since 2007.
» Georgia had just two players selected in this draft, the fewest for the school in one draft since two were taken in 1991. Georgia Southern also had two players drafted this year.

» Underclassmen by round in this draft: 14 in the first round, 18 in the second, eight in the third, nine in the fourth, five in the fifth, three in the sixth and four in the seventh. Sure. Which is how I'm able to read scores and discern that perhaps SEC defenses aren't that good.
You guys know that from top to bottom the SEC has the best collection of defensive talent in the entire country. Deep down inside you guys know...I know you'll never admit it...but you know which conference has dominated College Football for the past decade. And it sure as hell hasn't been the PAC-12, Big 12, Big 10, or ACC.

The SEC is the best Conf. imo but they are so over done on CBS it's comical.
Saban trying to get offenses to slow down because of injuries was comical after Oklahoma handed him his ass on a plate.
ATM brought a Big 12 style to the SEC and it has worked. Adjust or die.

I don't understand this thread tbh. Defensive minded football is dying in football in general. Even in the NFL teams are starting to be more offensive minded. The way the game is officiated now has a lot to do with teams starting to switch their focus over to the offensive side of the football because the game undoubtedly favors the offense the way it's called, especially in college. The SEC still has by far and away the best defensive teams/players in the nation and it isn't even close. Saying that, it is nowhere near the level of defense it has been in the past. Some of that has to do with opposing offense's getting better, the way the game is starting to be officiated and younger players focusing on offense now at a young age. Everyone wants to play offense growing up these days, it's the glamour side of the ball. Thread is stupid tbh, should be titled "LOL Defense in football"
It's merely coincidental that A&M switched conferences while football in general is transitioning to more offense. While it has benefited A&M because they were a little ahead of the curve regarding offense compared to some of the other SEC teams but by no means did A&M change the SEC by bringing this style of play. The SEC was going to change regardless because football in general is changing for the reasons mentioned above. A&M just caught the perfect storm timing wise.

Not really. You obviously don't understand scheduling and how it works. You know Texas just scheduled Michigan for year 2024 and 2026 right? You realize that is the norm when it comes to scheduling opponents? You don't just wake up one day and say "hey, you want to play next year". This isn't NCAA 2k14. Knowing what shape your opponent will be in 10+ years down the road is impossible. Michigan could be at the bottom of the big10 in year 2024 or they could be a natl title contender. Who knows. A&M had a yearly non-conf game with Arkansas but that obviously went away with the conference move. They had trouble finding opponents in a years time because most teams have their scheduled figured out for the foreseeable future.

Its only a matter of time before N. Dakota St. and BYU join the Big 12. They've been tapping that Big 12 ass lately.

I did support Okie St going to the title game over Bama that season. Bama only had one quality one all year against Arkansas and lost their other quality game at home to LSU.
But I don't have to cheerlead for the Big 12 on this forum since its mostly SEC hate.

Not sure how anyone can complain about scheduling when you compare these two :lol
South Carolina
Arkansas
MSU
Ole Miss
Alabama
Auburn
Mizzou
LSU
SEC Championship
______________
Kansas
Baylor
OU
Iowa State
Kansas State
Tceh
West VA
OklaState
TCU
SEC does not even play all teams in Conf.
Bad comparison. And the East is just not very good.

No reason to do that.
Texas is just not very good. They will have problems with almost any schedule this year. New QB, no offensive line, their D will get worn down in the Big 12. Watch for more injuries on D with a bunch of guys playing tired. Already lost starting DT last game. I would almost rather have Texas playing SEC teams that don't mix it up on offense. Texas has got to have the most 3 and outs on offense in the Big 12.

A&M's schedule hasn't had a P5 opponent OOC since joining the SEC. That needs to change.

A&M had trouble finding opponents on such short notice. Schedules are usually set years in advance. When they moved conferences it made it hard to find suitable opponents with the same open weeks. A&M had Arky every year non-conf but that became a conference game. A&M would have gladly kept the Texas game on T-Day but they declined. Either way, A&M has Arizona State, UCLA and Oregon all on the books in the next few years.

What hurts them is no Big 12 team will schedule them due to politics after leaving. They have to settle for Pac-12 opponents or try to get an ACC team to come to Dallas or even them going to Atlanta .

A&M plays enough games in Texas with home games and non conf games against the "others" in the State. I think they would much rather continue to get exposure in the south or out west when playing non-conf opponents. You see Texas doing the same thing.

Florida St/Miami/Georgia Tech would be good opponents since Florida and Georgia are deep every year in recruiting.

A&M left because it was the best decision for the University. If you can't see that now you're blind. A&M has never had this much exposure, made this much $, or been this successful on the field and recruiting. It's not a coincidence all these things started to happen when the school left behind Texas and the big12.
We hold no animosity towards anyone for how it went down. Why would we? We are major beneficiaries of how everything shook out.

Giving up natural in state rivals is never in the best long term interest of a school unless it's a move up.
This was a butthurt sideways move.

Texas would have easily left for the PAC-12 if it benefitted them.
