With Memphis not signing Hollins and recruiting a new coach, could that effect the defensive prowess that are the Memphis Grizziles? Sure they have arguably the best front court of the NBA, but will they respect and listen to what the new coach is going to ask of them? We face them the first game of the season at home. Will we finish where we left off in the WCF? Did we finally crack the code to defeat Z-Bo and Gasol? Or was that a bluff? Will Miller kill us again with one shoe? lol Just an off-season topic as we move closer to Media Day and Training camp!

Battier is on the Heat. Miller is on the Grizzles.

Memphis got by a wounded Clippers & a Westbrookless Thunder (every game was pretty close, Durant basically choked), they aren't that good & now that George Karl is the coach; I doubt they make it past the 1st round.

50-50. They are much younger, compared to Manu and Tim

that team reached their high point in 2011. they have no offense. Gay was the only guy that could get his own shot. Zbo was shut down. And of course, they stupidly let go of lionel hollins like if he was vinny del negro. That team is done with. I'm not worried of a 2011 grizzlies showing up next year. You should be more concerned over the warriors and maybe the rockets. maybe

Very high unless we play them injured.

Memphis only beat us in 2011 because Manu missed game one, and we lost at the buzzer. If we're leading 3-2 instead of trailing 2-3, they fold like a cheap card table in game 6. A pure fluke.

Yup. We just swept them. The only reason why Grizzlies destroyed us last 2011 is because Randolph peaked at the right time during that time but he's not a threat anymore and RJ.

I agree, as much as ey dominated us then, the scores were really close. And that was with Manu playing with a broken arm, TD hobbled and the rest of the supporting cast not giving much support.

Big differences

Splitter is our second best big instead of broken down Dice
Leonard is the starting SF instead of The Embarrassment Formerly Known As RJ
Danny Green gets big time minutes
The Spurs' defense is back to championship level

and most of all

Parker seems to have made it his personal mission to make Mike Conley his bitch ever since 2011

Yes, because the Spurs are a really good defensive team again. Defense wins championships.
That's why the Heat won, they clamped down at the right time unfortunately.
But I hope the Spurs get even better defensively than they were last year.

Yes probably. However the Kostas Koufos addition was very clever.

Saw that they sign Nick Calathes (from EuroCup), don't know much about him but looks a decent sign for them. Dude average 12PPG, 6RP, 6APG. And looks like they will turn from defensive team to offensive team. I mean defense won't be an issue anymore since they can still play defense like how they played with Hollins but still, a rookie Coach for them.

Calathes = Nando

I think he's one of the best third big men in the league. Having two starting quality centers - with one being an All-Star - is scary.

Also, Joerger's the real architect of their defense; Hollins gets credit for getting ZBo to play team ball though.

Wonder how good the big 3 and pop felt after getting revenge from the Grizz...

I think Memphis' advantage back in 2011 was more their perimeter play. Guys like Sam Young were outplaying Richard Jefferson - and Young has yet to sign with a team. Either San Antonio went with their best perimeter trio of Parker, Hill, and Ginobili and would get outsized or would play liabilities like Neal (who IMO only has that clutch shot in Game 5 as his biggest contribution in that series) and RJ.

And Conley ate Parker alive back then. Now he's busy getting owned.

Yes. I agree with this. It's just so many on here were doubting us going into the WCF this past season. Talking about we are about to get dominated on the inside :lol

Forgetting Duncan had a "best big at age 37" season.
Forgetting Splitter's emergence as an elite defensive, low-usage big.
Forgetting the Spurs dramatically upgraded their perimeter by adding Green and Leonard while Memphis only added Prince and Pondexter.

haha.

Spurs 14-2 overall against them since that first round debacle in 011 (Including last years sweep over them in the playoffs). Not bad.
