Lakers arent interested in signing him after this year nor should they be. Kobe will give it a go on some quasi contender team. I hope I'm wrong, but I dont see Kobe retiring a Laker.
LA times reported:
Kobe Bryant's future with Lakers after this season is up in the air Forget all that stuff about Kobe Bryant returning from an Achilles' tendon injury this season. It'll happen at some point. The real question involves next season. He might not return at all to the Lakers. Bryant is entering the last nine months of his contract, a season worth $30.45 million before he can become a free agent in July. He has known only one team in his 17-year career and often says he'll be a Laker for life, but will that be the case? The Lakers haven't opened contract negotiations with Bryant, according to a person with knowledge of the situation, taking a wait-and-see approach as he recovers from his injury.

Kobe sells the seats. Do you think laker fans will bother to watch out of his prime nash and gasol and nick young?

from a competitive standpoint, the lakers will go through extra years of mediocrity if kobe stays, but the problem is at a financial standpoint, it's stupid to let him leave. and it's not as easy as "oh well, we'll just get a superstar in 2014" who the fuck is gonna come in 2014. And the timing it's at it's worse too cause the clippers are at a franchise high point. More people will wanna watch the former staples center b team than to watch the former staples center a team.

Niggas will fuck up your day. That man looked like he was having a great day. Fresh fruit outside. A lovely child handing him a bag of goodies... and all of a sudden some savage starts shanking him in the ass all because his welfare check was late. LmAO!!!

kobe will be a laker, why are guys assuming he won't get an extension? because of an article based on assumptions?
there simply is no need to start contract negotiations for 2 obvious reasons
1. kobe's still injured
2. they're going to see how he holds the court this year and weigh his value on this premise alone
the lakers and kobe will see eye to eye. its not going to be at the projected 5% increase which is around $32 mil for one year but it surely won't be for peanuts as most people want kobe to do.
kobe's star power is still undeniable. he can chuck until kingdom come and the fans would still pay those premium laker seats to see that. there's ZERO players out there that can bring the same value kobe can.
i'm expecting a $40 million/2 yrs contract or $56 million 3 yrs with NTC still implemented on that deal. that should net the lakers another star player or two since i'm sure Gasol will not be extended beyond his 2014-2015 contract.

heck, even if kobe doesn't play a game at all, i'm willing to bet the lakers still offer him a contract that will pay him at the very least $15 mil a year and that's underestimating the numbers.
remember guys, this is a Superstars league. If guys like Bynum who hasn't played a single game is attracting 10 digit annual salary, what makes y'all think kobe won't get the same cheddar considering he's still a top 10 player in the league (top 2 in terms of marketing)

And you're basing this on...? Why would they negotiate Kirby's next contract when he's not even able to play in an NBA game right now? Maybe they just want to be patient and see how well he plays before they start making offers.
And it's not like Kirby wouldn't take a paycut to win his 6th ring, but he would only do that if they got some big players in the FA like Wade and Bron, he wouldn't take 20 mil less to play with Rudy Gay and Paul Pierce, tbh.

Just a hunch, the formula is brewing right infront of us. The Lakers right now are like the Colts 2 years ago, its time to part ways with a legend.

I agree on the Manning thing, it could turn out the same. Kirby misses most of the season due to struggling with coming back or just isn't himself, Lakers get a good pick and want to rebuild with lots of young players (maybe go for K.Love in 2015?), Kirby still wants top dollar, which prevents them from getting any better unless Lebron joins(not gonna happen).
I see where you're coming from, but right now I just think they're taking things slowly to see how Bryant recovers from his injury.

does my nig TDMVPDPOY write these? seems like his lexicon tbh.
as for Rapist, only way he leaves will be for a contender, the question is who will want a ballhog coming off a serious injury for his age? also, wherever he goes, he'll probably cause lockerroom issues per par. His narcissistic personality is perfect for LA tbh. Wherever he goes, he won't have an organization and fanbase eating out of his hand. It all depends on contenders, how his injury goes, and if Mitch can offer him another legacy deal. What teams would want him if the German fetuses and PEDs give him a chance to play again? Chicago and Miami are the only options I can think of. possibly SA, but that would cause this site to implode into dark matter.

I could see him begging the Clippers to sign him like he did in '04 to "get back at" the Lakers.... Fredo needs to hook him up with a fat paycheck ASAP to avoid that nightmare, tbh :lol

Lakers would be fucking stupid to not re-sign Kobe to an extension, tbh..
Realistically, the Lakers aren't going to contend for at least another 4 years..I realize everybody always assumes the Lakers can pull off a major trade or signing, but what are their options?..they don't have a player like prime Kobe to form a duo with a prime Gasol..there's no prime Shaq in the league..
They would need to acquire Lebron, Durant or a combination of Harden/Paul/Rose + another top 15-20 player to form a legit title contender..it's an unrealistic goal, tbh, they aren't going to acquire Lebron or Durant or a combo of 2 elite players..their best case is Carmelo, and he simply isn't a top player on a title team..
The Lakers should keep Kobe, it'll keep the fanbase happy, they will enjoy watching him break career points records, it will keep the fans in the seats, rather than inciting a riot by allowing their God to play for another team and burning that bridge, tbh..

agree, Kobe's market value already prevails far over his value on the basketball court. But there's an obstacle that Kobe will continue to demand big $ after his current term expires, which'll hamper the team's process of rebuilding. I just can't imagine Kobe playing for less than 10m/yr in a minor role. I think if he feels he's no longer able to sustain his status as the team's #1 (regarding both salary and stats), even by jacking up shots or whatever means, he'll then choose to retire because his huge ego would never allow him to end his career in a humble way. Dude would never want people to see a weak TOSB version of him, imho.

Seriously though, I hate it when a great player gets the twilight of his career ruined. Kinda puts a scar on their legacy...

I didn't read all these fucking responses because I don't care. However, there's a reason MJ was released eventually (yeah yeah he retired blah blah blah)

Agree. Dude's ego would prevent him from playing for 10m/yr or less money in a reduced role, guys with such huge egos (MJ and Kobe) would rather retire than continue to play in a beta way imho.
