The judge didn't hand down the sentence, it was agreed upon by the prosecution. Still seems fucked up though.

The reason the white guy got 30 days is so he could pay probation costs for the next 15 years. The alternative is that the state pays for him. You don't have that option with a black man. Probation offices don't accept food stamps.
