...play? How long will be play?

At age 29 he has perhaps 6 to 7 more years of star level basketball left in him. Superstar bigs tend to last a long time in this league. TD's game is not overly reliant on raw athleticism. I suspect he will be more effective for a longer time than say, a Kevin Garnett. It's pretty scary for the rest of the league that Duncan could be at the midpoint of his career. With the Spurs able to surround him with quality talent, Duncan could be helping the Spurs win more championships for a long, long time.

Agreed. Kareem wasn't overly athletic and lasted well into his 40's. I think he will be playing another 8-9 seasons. He will retire with at least 4 rings, hopefully 6, but realistically he will end with 4.

Duncan compares to playes like Kareem and Olajuwon. Kareem averaged at least 20 points per game until he was 38 and then won championships at 39 and 40, IIRC. Olajuwon had his two best seasons at around 33 and was good until about the age of 36.

So yeah, Duncan hopefully has at least five good years left in him.

Tim could play until he's 40 if he wants to. At some point, probably his mid 30s, he'll take on the "David" role of defensive stopper and rebounder, and younger players will take on starring roles.

He's signed til 2010 - are we thinking he signs an extension before then? Or do we go through some FA drama?

I think his decision to be a lifer was made in 2000.

as one of tim duncan's close friends i truly believe he will only play about 6 more years not because of health or anything like that but he did just have a little girl and would probably like to have fun with sidney and amy

i can see duncan playin about 6 more years and retiring, considering he will be 35
and have played 14 seasons of nba ball. Also considering the kid, and already having
such an accomplished career, with probably 2 more championships to come , he wont
have any reason to play past 35

With Manu and Tony (and Tim of course) locked down, you think Tim will only get one more ring?

tim will come out strong next season... then next season... then next season... then next season... then next season... then next season... then next season and out of 7 seasons he will have 3 rings and a 3 season MVP and 3 finals mvp...

I'd say 6 great years left, then I buy into the notion of a couple years in a late-David Robinson type role. Then at around 37 or 38 I think he'll hang 'em up. I predict two or three more rings for Tim.

The Trio wil be together for many years, how long could TIM play? it depends on his knees and ankles his game will always be there, perhaps playing less minutes and sharing the team he could play until 38-40.

I think he has 3 more "superstar" years in him, and 3 "star" years.

6-7 years left.

i too am afraid of TD retiring 'early'. Meaning before 35. his persona reeks of a move like that. whatever works. I just hope he stays healthy and brings a few more rings home in the meantime. :tu

if hes earned the right to retire at 33-34
would be fine with me if he can get 2,3,4 titles in 4 years

I am hopeing tim duncan and the fute of the team ian, can be like david and tim with a little overlap
hopefully with tim lasting a little longer

since tim isn't as athletic i think it will work

basicly insted of an old david and a young tim

we will get to see what a team would look liek if we had an old tim and a young David
