"No, I don't think they should get their back pay, frankly, I really don't. I'm sick and tired of a massive, bloated federal bureaucracy living on our backs, and taking money out of us, a lot more money than most of us earn in the private sector, then getting a furlough, and then getting their money back at the end of it. Sorry, I'm not for that. I want to punish these people. Sorry to say that, but that's what I want to do."

And?
government these days is just bean counters coming up with more ways to count beans..a lot of this crap adds nothing to society. NSA, TSA, etc are just a giant leech on our backs that need to go. these workers would be much more productive in the private sector producing things and services people actually want. we don't want to be spied on, harassed, etc that doesn't add value.

The messenger is undoubtedly a hypocritical douche bag who has extorted tons of money himself from the taxpayers.
However the message:
"I'm sick and tired of a massive, bloated federal bureaucracy living on our backs, and taking money out of us, a lot more money than most of us earn in the private sector, then getting a furlough, and then getting their money back at the end of it. Sorry, I'm not for that." is right on.
How many of these Federal job *positions* are pure waste?
Congress being the biggest waste of space of course. :lol

I wonder how many chromosomes your inbreeding prevented you from developing ...
NB: I don't fault the workers. They're getting the short end of the stick. I think it's totally fucked that they can't work. I just don't think they should get a mandatory weeks paid vacation off my dime.

Q. What % of Federal Jobs are truly productive* and neccessary?
* "productive" meaning adding to the taxpayers health, welfare and benefit.
I'm gonna overestimate and say 50%. Meaning 50% could be flat cut and the taxpayer would not suffer one iota from said cut.
What % do you think?

The government shutdown is just really fucking people over on vacation. If I was a non-bean-eating foreigner the only reason I would come to the US is to see the amazing national parks. Sucks for them.
If the shutdown is still going by the end of the workday Monday I think they can all get unemployment, though it has to be paid back if they get back pay.
What about civilian defense employees overseas? Think they're gonna get unemployment?
Moreover, not all of the people who are not being paid are 'on vacation'. Those listed as 'essential' are expected to work and work overtime; they're just not expected to get paid.
Sounds like a for shit plan to me.

News to me. I DO know that most (all) are getting paid after the shutdown is over. Wifes friend works at a hospital. Is paid up through end of Sept. No timeline on next paycheck but she is still working at the same wages. Most people get paid every two weeks, don't they? Only the idiots are worried about not getting paid at all.

Great Idea, insulting people before you know anything at all about them, their educational level or actual intelligence. Keep it up because it is an exceptionally useful method of conversing and attitude change.
The facts are these: IF the Congress votes back pay for the employees THEN they will be paid when the shutdown is over, but NOT UNTIL the shutdown is over. As of Friday that vote had not taken place. Perhaps they took it late friday afternoon or maybe they will take it today. Point being, your (ass)umption is incorrect as of that date. Moreover, there is no indication that the shutdown will be over in two weeks.
I thoroughly enjoyed your anecdotal info. regarding the 'friend of the wife' as your source of truth and knowledge, but since that anecdote can not be extrapolated to anyone besides the 'friend of the wife' it is less than useful.
IF the congress votes back pay and IF the shutdown is stopped within two weeks and IF the federal salary mechanisms are back up and running within that time frame, THEN and ONLY THEN does your set of assumptions come to pass.
If the congress does not vote back pay, or if the shutdown lasts for a month or more, NONE of the essential personnel are getting paid. They have to hope that they have savings to spend in the meantime or family from whom they can obtain loans or something else. Why in the name of all that's good and holy should these people even have to face any of these questions for the sake of political posturing?
It is remarkable to me that people are so casual about their assumptions regarding how easy life is for anyone besides themselves, and how little other people should be concerned when they are facing pay shortages.

Did you just drop a reference regarding how I feel it is easy for non govt employees? Sorry. I got distracted sorting through my $1k/mo health insurance. When a comparable private sector job gets less pay, less benefits and less vacation days I tend to be nonchalant towards their days old struggles.
Next time I'll search tge interwebz for huffpo examples since that seems to carry more weight than personal examples.

that's the policy of the corporations, stagant real household income for since St Ronnie was elected and the VRWC stink tanks created in the mid 1970s started to have real impact on corporate and govt policy.
If median income over the last 40 years had kept up with GDP, it would in the low $90K instead of the low $50K.
the corporations are fucking you out $10Ks/year, $100Ks/year over you earning years, to pay their execs and shareholders exorbitant compensation, and non-chalant sheeple like yourself bend over and keep electing Repugs to enrich and protect the 1% and the UCA.

Then quit your frrgn job and get another. And none of this crap about the economy. You are obviously talented and could make some OTHER private sector company some big bucks. You are better than a minor gear. Better yet, start your own business. Quit whining like a govt. worker, CHANGE jobs. Get something started. Take a risk.

I, the most sane motherfucker in this forum, realize that Repugs are AGGRESSIVELY pro 1% and anti 99%, while Dems are too often passively compliant. I'm only for Dems because they AREN'T Repugs (which is why Obama won in 2008 and 2012. A landslide of voters didn't want any more Repug non-"governance".
Repugs would have NEVER passed, or even proposed the very PROGRESSIVE, pro-99% ACA or anything remotely imilar.
What the Repugs did do in the health care area in their Reign of Error 2001 -2008 was pass unfunded corporate-welfare laws Medicare Part D and Medicare Advantage, while REGULATING that fed govt could not negotiate lower BigPharma prices, iow, protected BigPharma's sucking wealth from taxpayers.
The Repugs and conservatives were also against HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL Democratic pro-99% Social Security, union protections, Glass-Steagall, Medicare/Medicaid, VRA, etc, etc. and are still today continuing decades of aggressive dismantling of all progressive 99% policies.
You may flatter yourself as sane, but you're fucking ignorant if you think there's no diff between Repugs and Dems.

what THE FUCK is wrong with that? Some kind of crime in your dystopian workplace?
the VRWC War on Employees has convinced people that jobs are precarious, manna from the heaven of the gods of capitalism, dismissed on a minute's notice - escorted off premises by police, employees deserve nothing, except more and more work, more pressure, more stress, making up for all the people fired, for little or nothing more in return.
Study: Most Americans unhappy at work
Only 30 percent of American employees feel engaged or inspired at their jobs and the vast majority of U.S. workers -- 70 percent -- are not reaching their full potential
The 2013 State of the American Workplace Report (http://www.gallup.com/strategicconsulting/163007/state-american-workplace.aspx) estimates that widespread disinterest and unhappiness in the office is not only affecting company performance, but is costing the U.S. $450 billion to $550 billion a year.
Those who were "not engaged" act "checked out"; although they put time and effort into their work, they don't have energy or passion.
those who are "actively disengaged" aren't just unhappy -- they act out their unhappiness by undermining what their engaged coworkers accomplish.

My main issue is not a specific issue at all. I got absolutely drilled with taxes last year. I've tried to save and go without my whole life. Why? Spend all your profits on crap you don't need in order to expense it. Work harder for what? So I can pay for health insurance? Why? Lots of people continue to have kids without insurance, they don't pay. Food? Everyone seems to get some sort of free food. I know a hair stylist that has section 8 housing yet drives a newer Escalade. I rarely took a weekend off. I've pretty much said f it. I've stopped expanding this year. Why should i create a job for an employee that i get to do lots of paperwork for? Oh wait, we get an extra dollar or so bc he doesn't want to send his child support in and we get to! Finally bought a new car this year. Putting up a shop. I'm tired of chasing the dollar in order to have almost 50% taken away. It seems that if you try to get ahead and do things right, you're punished. I could just as well sit home and get my family on foodstamps/wic, get an Obamaphone, heating assistance, commodities, housing etc....
Anybody that's self employed that can relate to my frustration?
Isn't this the attitude when we instill from each according to his ability, to each according to his need?

So you a actually think people are happy sitting around collecting food stamps doing nothing? I would much rather work than get bored sitting around. What about all the billions rich investment bankers got away with from our government during the housing bubble and all that followed? They cheated the government for so much more than food stamps. What about the money they took? And one might be prosecuted.
So if your a lazy cheater that's worse than a guy who works and steals?
And yes I relate to your frustration. I just vent anger in a different direction. I got drilled with taxes as well. But I made enough to get drilled.
