It's Shaq's to lose.

Dirk still does not take much attention from the opposing defense yet, nor does he show the ability to make his teammates better. When his outside shot is not falling,he falls into his regular trance and falls asleep .So no mvp for the Jerrie yet .:next3

You don't have to be a superb defender to win the MVP award, he will have a standout year and shoot 3-4 more shots than last year resulting in 26-28 ppg plus his usual 9 boards block & steal and a half... He is a consisten 3p shooter and free throw shooter, something shaq and timmy and KG can't say.

28 pts and 10 rebounds could cork it for any nba player.:next3

I'd say the top 3 candidates are Shaq, Tim Duncan, and KG.

But with Shaq putting up big numbers out in the East, I think he'll win his 2nd MVP.

no way, I really think, Kobe will get the MVP award this year.

I hope he does, it'd be worth it just to see Shaq's face when he hears this :) ALSO, maybe all those Kobe bashers will realize that despite whatever the hell he does off court in his free time, he is without a question a really great basketball player. I'm certainly not the man's biggest fan, still, even I have to admit, he has great talent and makes the game fun to watch.

Shaq or Kobe... Whoever's team has a better record/position at the end of the season.

Shaq hasn't played more than 67 games in the past three years. No way he wins MVP unless that changes.

If tim is healthy he wins the MVP, especially if he comes back as the TD i remebr from 2003 when he was agressive and forced defenses to adjust to him. It should be noted that Tim doesn't have the starpower around him that KG has with moth Spre and Sam i Am playing there he has a better supporting cast so it only makes sense that his team has a slightly better record

Shaq is going to destroy almost every team in the East. The West for a while has been making their moves with an eye on eventually seeing Shaq in the playoffs. The East is simply not prepared for him.

I would want Tim Duncan to win it. But have you guys seen Shaq. He looks good. He already lost 25 lbs and he is looking to trim a little more. So I think Shaq will have a huge year.

Given how so many have already written off the Lakers, I'm guessing that if solidly make the playoffs (not eeking in), Kobe will be the MVP. All of the other contenders have won theirs and are on teams with expectations. Kobe's very likely to lead the league in scoring (since he'll probably lead the league in FGA + FTA) and if he can parlay that into reaching the playoffs without Shaq, large parts of the national media will be drooling all over him. He's lost the drama side, but that should also be to his benefit, since the media won't have to try to justify supporting a player with pending felony charges. Given all of those things, I'll begrudgingly take Kobe.

Manu

Iverson (2000-2001) is the only guard since Jordan to win the MVP...all the otheres have been PF's or Centers...

odds are that if Shaq is really in shape and and doesn't get injured he will be the favorite to win the MVP as he will be the focus of the offense in Miami and will tear it up in the East...

Zach Randolph.

Zach?...:lol

It looks like Zach had a few more witnesses to his little fuckup than Kobe did and will have a little more on his mind this year than MVP...plus with Portlands promise to "clean up" their team odds are that Zach will be wearing a different uniform when the season starts...

If Shaq is healthy, no one will have a chance to take it from him.

If this is Manu's breakout year (say, 20-5-5-2), he'll have a real shot at MIP...

Ok, I'll say Kobe, which will hinge on his team's performance rather than his own stats..unless he tears the L a new asshole,
like
35,8,7,2
which I don't really see happening.
