View Full Version : Its very apparent, Manu....
has no intentions of dialing it back this year. This will come back to hurt the Spurs again in the playoffs...if he even makes it there.

Pop realized that YEARS ago. You preserve Manu by limiting his minutes and games. He played 60 games and 23 minutes per contest. I can see the games staying about the same, but the minutes may dip below 20.

You missed the point. Its not about him playing good or bad right now. Its about not adjusting his style for the long haul, and being broken down by the playoffs by playing this reckless style.
This style turns into turnovers in the playoffs for someone his age.

Why is a basketball observation flipped into bashing by some of you? Is what I'm saying not what happened last year?
And the year before, and the year before, and the year before.
I'm not bashing. I'm simply saying what many had hoped for, and discussed all offseason, is obviously not gonna happen, and what will he the cause of that. I hope I'm wrong.

Asking him to completely change his style is retarded. It looks like he bulked up a bit so maybe he'll be a bit more protected. At any rate they brought in Beli to play his role should he get hurt and I'm sure he'll get plenty of games off to rest his body. If he can keep his stroke he'll be a benefit to the team.

If he dials it back, "he's done". If he plays like he always plays, "he's reckless". :lol
Sit back and enjoy the show.

Not adjusting his game is retarded. He won't make it to the playoffs, or will limp in.

IMO he'll have some sort of adjustments by season's start. As I said his shot looks good; maybe he'll do a lot more spot up shooting this year.

Manu is the 2nd best spur in Spurs history. He can do whatever the hell he wants to do. The Man has earned that right.

Pretty good. As Nono said he made all his shots and filled out the stat sheet.

That's the adjustment I'm hoping for.

Manu played very hard tonight like it was a playoff game. He was on the floor going
for balls a couple of times tonight. It was classic Manu! He had a nice
smooth stroke for a three. It looked good.

they aren't paying him 7 million to be a spot up shooter. he's still going to be an integral part of this team, and thats a good thing

I think it was either 09 or 10, but they tried to have him dial back his game by having him drive less and settle for pop up jumpers. It made him less likely to get injured but it effectively ruined his effectiveness on the court. Out made him too predictable. Having Marco around means he doesn't have to always be the primary decision maker once TP is resting. That is why Marco will help conserve Ginobili.
Manu played more off ball but what I liked was the fact that he was a plus on the court.

Some of those passes he made last night... ugh. What is most is important though is that he shoots at a high or efficient FG% and that includes free throws. I'm kind of irritated to see Manu run the point in a preseason game which is an indication that Pop still trusts him. Maybe Pop will realize throughout the season that Manu is prone to turning the ball over at this stage in his career and reduce his PG duty role. A lot of wishful thinking here btw.

I beg to differ. This is the first time in a long time Manu didn't play in an Int'l competition during. He played in the Olympics last year and it hurt him as well as he never really could get healthy all year. From reports, he intended to play for Arg in the WC but RC and Pop ask him not to and spend the Summer resting.
He looked very rested last night. And I believe Manu could last a full season with days off here and there playing his usual style while being limited to 20 mpg.

David Robinson is and George Gervin is #3. Manu or Parker would be #4, which is a toss up IMO.

You won't get many to agree about that. The facts don't back you up. That is purely your opinion!
Definitely the Admiral DRob was better, as was George Gervin the Iceman, and Sean Elliott the Ninja, and probably Capt. Late James Silas as well. Tony Parker, however still has a long way to go yet but he may also prove to be better in the long run.
The only one trolling is you, TGY.

Good take. But even if health, the wreckless abandon style is gonna cost this team in the playoffs like it did last year. Its not meant for a 36 year old who cant erase mistakes due to the years of bball wear and tear.
His mind is writing checks his body cant cash anymore. The old Manu was athletic enough to overcome or be better than those mistakes. Now, in a 7 game series, team pretty much know Manu will turn the ball over with a bad pass or bad driblling if you just stay in front of him.

No way- Duncan, Gervin, Robinson all much better than Manu. Parker is even better.
He plays one way. He is Manu Ginobili. Take him or leave him. Spurs have taken him. I'm good with it. If we have someone more productive then lets play them more... if not then it is what it is.
