It may surprise you to learn that we don’t need any more water to cover the earth. There is already enough.

The reason water doesn’t envelop the globe now is that the earth’s surface is uneven. The ocean basins sit low and the continents sit high. Some mountains are especially high and some ocean trenches are very deep, but these extremes do not account for a large percentage of the earth’s surface (see graph).

If the earth’s surface were even, then there is enough water in the oceans to cover the globe to a depth of about 3 km.

This suggests that, during the Flood, the ocean floor moved vertically relative to the continents, something mentioned in the Bible (Psalm 104:8 NASB).

That is the true spirit, Joe. People can believe how and whatever they want. Belief for the most part is a very subjective mechanism. That is why IMHO there are so many interpretations of the worlds great books like the bible. Christianity does not have a monopoly on this, it is true for practically every religion.

There was a TV documentary about ten years ago which showed pictures of the ark on top of Mt. Ararat, a volcanic peak in Turkey. In WWII pilots used to fly over it on their way to bombing missions and reported the sighting wondering what it was. Then about ten years ago the documentary crew made films of it in an expedition where they took samples of the wood which had petrified over the years.
