Yahoo! Baseball Columnist Says Boston-St. Louis Matchup Will Be About Which City ‘Is More Racist’ :lol

by NESN Staff on Sun, Oct 20, 2013 at 12:45AM Share this: Fancred Email Koji Uehara, Jarrod SaltalamacchiaJeff Passan doesn’t sound very happy about the World Series matchup. The Red Sox finished off the Detroit Tigers on Saturday night at Fenway Park and won the American League pennant in the process. That sets up a rematch of the 2004 World Series when the Sox and St. Louis Cardinals begin this year’s Fall Classic on Wednesday. Passan, who is a national baseball reporter for Yahoo! Sports, has a “unique” take on this year’s installment of the World Series. Just moments after the Red Sox put the finishing touches on the American League Championship Series, Passan fired off a head-scratching tweet. While there’s no denying that many cities have had challenging moments in race relations, Passan’s focus on racism is not a storyline that’s on the forefront of many minds heading into the World Series. Except for Passan’s, apparently. Passan reported after Game 2 that a Red Sox fan allegedly made racist remarks to fellow fans. The report alleged a fan — the same fan who grabbed a home run ball out of another fan’s hands and threw it onto the field — made racist remarks a Tigers fan. As CBS Boston’s Michael Hurley pointed out on Twitter, a part of Passan’s story detailing Boston’s history of racism was removed from the story overnight. Update: Passan later tweeted that he was “playing on stereotypes” and asked Bostonians to “chill.”

I was listening to Fox Sports Radio last night and the radio host was saying "St Louis has no chance. Boston is the superior team"

I am neutral but when I hear shit like that, it pisses me off. Reminds me of the New Orleans vs Indianapolis Superbowl where the media kept repeating the Saints had no chance. That shit always forces me to take underdog side.

Silly spoiled Cardinal fan, yes you would hate it if Napoli gets a ring against your team. I just laughed at the faces of the Cardinal fans in the bottom of the 9th of game 6 in the 2011 WS. It was pathetic. They were acting like they had suffered as fans. Give me a fuckin' break. Cardinal fans crying is like seeing Laker, Yankees, or Cowboy fans cry.

The pussyfacation of sports continues as MLB is looking to ban home plate collisions
after the two in the Sox-Tigers series. They are afraid of catchers getting hurt. With
all the pads a catcher wears what the hell. I have been on both sides of collisions when
I played as a teenager. I took out a catcher who was sitting on home plate with
a knee to the chest. As a catcher I got rolled more than once but I knew that they
were coming for me and was ready for it. This MLB talk is just stupid.

I watched the Detroit-Sox series and all I saw in the lower level at Tiger Field was pale faces.
It looked like they were playing in Boston. There is a lot of butthurt Yankee fans who will run
down Boston every chance they get. If Boston is so white why do NBA players play there.
Baseball is not much of a black sport anymore. For some reason the kids don't want to
play baseball. The should realize that all of them can't be like Mike.

Boston's "we're grungy and unclean" schtick really is fucking old and played out--and has been since Aaron Boone hit that HR in 2003. That Game 7 was the last time I actively rooted for Boston in a baseball game. Since then it's been mandated by Sox PR department that they rub pine tar on their helmets and go to all means necessary to portray a blue-collar look. It wouldn't piss me off if those idiot Massholes (and all the mysteriously appearing Sox transplants) didn't feed into this fake shit.

Many other teams do the tar thing it's just they are not on national TV to see it. The beard thing is
well like rally caps. The Giants started it and it will run it's course till something else comes along.
I always thought they were a bit of a blue collar. That's ok. After all they just can't be Broadway and drama
like the Yankees can they.

The "BOSTON STRONG" is a new slogan this year but singing "Sweet Caroline " is not.
The Spurs have a different slogan just about every year. It gets the fan base going and
it might get to a few players. I have plenty of t-shirts with Spurs slogans on them.

Btw, Cardinalfan is equally as annoying with their stuck-up, self-congratulatory "best fans in baseball" schtick.... STFU, you're no higher, mightier, or classier than any other fanbase....

I'll disagree here. Cards fans are amazing. When I went to (the old) Busch, I sat next to a 70+ year old lady who could quote stats from the 50's. Boss.

Although I was there in a Giants jersey, I didn't get heckled and instead got challenged to make real baseball takes. St. Louis fans are the truth, which makes sense because there is literally nothing else there to give a fuck about :lol

The Sox are like the Yankees in a way. Love them or hate them. Not
much in between! The Pirates are this years underdog not a blue collar team.
Unfortunately for the Pirates fans, this year was a freak. The owners of the team
will start to sell them off piece by piece. Oakland could be a blue collar team but the
are getting in the playoffs just about every year now. They don't have the money to buy
the 2 or so players to get them over the hump. Boston blew up the team from last year.
They were awful and I knew from the first day Bobby Valentine was a mistake. They
worked their ass off , made a few good trades and made the series with hard work.
That's the word. Work! You just can't say Dustin Pedrolia and Mike Nopoli are not blue collar.

From the MLB rulebook:

OBSTRUCTION is the act of a fielder who, while not in possession of the ball and not in the act of fielding the ball, impedes the progress of any runner. If a fielder is about to receive a thrown ball and if the ball is in flight directly toward and near enough to the fielder so he must occupy his position to receive the ball he may be considered "in the act of fielding a ball." It is entirely up to the judgment of the umpire as to whether a fielder is in the act of fielding a ball. After a fielder has made an attempt to field a ball and missed, he can no longer be in the "act of fielding" the ball. For example: an infielder dives at a ground ball and the ball passes him and he continues to lie on the ground and delays the progress of the runner, he very likely has obstructed the runner.

End of debate, tbh...

This whole "first world series clinched at fenway since 1918!" thing is the most manufactured sports story I've ever seen. The curse was broken in 2004, you don't get to double dip on the "Since 1918!" storyline :lol

huh? They say "at Fenway" as if it's a big deal when its Boston's 3rd world series in the last 10 years, hence why it's a manufactured storyline.

Farrell wanted to come to the Sox from the Toronto Blue Jays. Jays wanted compensation. Mike Aviles went to Toronto with a player coming back to the Sox.

Congrats to Koji, Salty, and Napoli. Finally World Series champions. I laughed at that David Friese picture. That guy was a World Series fluke. Awesome to see the Cardinals lose another World Series. I hope they finish in last place next season and the Cubs go on a magical run and win it all.

Congrats to the Red Sox. I've never been much of a baseball fan, but I jumped on the Sox bandwagon in '04 whenever they were losing to the Yankees and got down 0-3. I got caught up in the storyline and had faith, and was very pleased to see them win...and then win the series afterwards. '07 was nice too. But a third in less than 10 years...as if there was any doubt the curse was shattered. Ever since I've kept an eye on the Sox. Glad to see another victory. Congrats!

Congrats to the Red Sox for winning it all--David Ortiz was playing out of his mind the whole series and really kept the Red Sox afloat offensively. Awesome to see former Angels like Napoli and Lackey get a ring (or 2nd in the case of Lackey).

Well, I at least understand the concept of "at", without the need to have been led TWICE to water, so I'm guessing you're an extremely retarded stupid motherfucker. Thanks for pointing that out, you dolt.

He ended up with an OPS of 1.95 for the series. The dude was hitting bombs off pitches in on his hands. Straight up beast mode.
