I know it's just the preseason, but the dude has 6 points, 6 rebounds and a block in 8 minutes..

Bad fit for our system, but damn I wish we could have used him better.

He'll put up some numbers every once in awhile this year. Lets just hope somebody doesn't start a thread every time he does. People who watched him know the negative impact he has on the court far outweighs the empty stats he puts up.

I'm gonna love watching Blair play on another team and I don't mean that as a diss. His style of play is fun to watch imo, just not very effective if you're trying to win basketball games. I just realized that there's no way of explaining this without looking like I'm dissing him but I'm being honest: I will enjoy watching him play and root for him.

The ol' sport has to keep it up for several games, every even that occurs now is invalid if not to just pique the interest of the casual NBA fan. Blair is currently a non-factor.

That is probably true. I can think of others who are servicable like Landry and Millsap, but they are even light years ahead of Blair.

So here's the deal. We'll give Blair until the ASG ... and if he averages 16/10 over that time I'll never post here again. If he doesn't, you don't. Do we have a deal, or are you just a cowardly blowhard without the guts to back up the crap you constantly spew here?

The guy was a center in a sg/sf body. Out rebounding 7 footers and was not taller than Jordan. Beast. I always wondered how Barkley would've turned out if he was a 7 footer.

Blair's statline against the Wizards: 9 points and 11 rebounds.
Neal's statline against the Heat: 18 points (on 6 of 11 shooting) and 4 assists.

Was Pop holding these guys back? I feel that some of our third string players are much better than what Pop makes them out to be.

No, they were both iso style players who struggled in a team first system

This. Neither could play defense. Do I wish we'd kept Gary? Yes. But I understand why he and the Spurs had to go separate ways. Belli and Patty are filling his role just fine.

Mills may be shorter, but he's just good a shooter and is a better defender than Neal...

Ayres vs Blair may be a wash, but Blair's still a midget.

Blair's weakness wasn't his ability to put up numbers, it was his inability to prevent opponent bigs from putting up hall-of-fame numbers when he was on the floor. When you need a guy to average a double double just to stay even, you let him go somewhere else.

There's only so much room for the rookies on a team full of veterans.

One thing I am noticing Mills has improved is his recognition on defense. Spurs perimeter players are supposed to sag and help ans till be able to recover to cover the three point line. Both he and Neal used to be awful about the recover part last year but Mills is actually getting back out there again. Mills quickness is key and he is just tough enough to fight through screens. Spurs player development staff is top notch.

People fail to realize this. Blair I believe, when he was a starter, had the lowest defensive efficiency of any center in the league.

Same with Neal. Neal produced offensively, but, he alot of times would just flat out leave his man for no reason.

With these two guys gone, there is a reason the Spurs are #2 in defensive efficiency behind the Pacer this year.

Anyone can take individual stats from a few games and make a case for Blair. Even could have been done last year on the Spurs. It's like heretics who take a few verses from Sacred Scripture to make themselves believe they're saved. But upon their death they'll find out differently -- and too late.

According to the stats LJ came up with, Blair had the lowest defensive efficiency he could find anywhere, ever, if memory serves.

Yep. I'm not in love with putting up offense. As long as you have a guy on the roster who can come in and hit a jump shot when everyone's gone cold, you're golden. Those guys aren't always easy to find, but they're better for a team than a guy who needs to take a lot of shots and lets the defense go to hell.

Your power forward floating in passing lanes and reaching low for the ball is how opposing bigs put up amazing numbers against your team. Sure, he pokes the ball away a couple of times a game, but he's out of position when he doesn't. Blair's also doing this with Dallas because he has something to prove. He wouldn't be doing it if he were still here. He'd probably still have declining defensive rebounding numbers, causing people to again question the health of his knees.

82games.com with the revealing statistic -

Dejuan Blair, PER as center - 24.4
Opposing player PER as center - 29.4

Score some, concede some more = Dejuan Blair.

His replacement, Jeff Ayres -

PER as center: 14.5, PER as PF: 0 (should be improved after today's game)
Opposing player PER: 9.5, Opposing PF PER: 5.9

Net:

For the Spurs, Ayres is a net plus over Blair.

29.4 is better than all but two players in the NBA. Even with his incredible rebound and steal rate, the Mavs are more likely to win when he's on the bench.

All you Blair supporters see the game with Houston tonight. Blair sat on the
bench the last 4 minutes of the game when Dallas made their come back.
He played the same minutes as he did with the Spurs. He played 16 min.
had 2 points and 4 fouls and was on the bench in crunch time.
Some things change but stay the same..............

I've consistently called Blair "Fool's Gold". If you're just watching the box scores you have to wonder why he isn't getting more minutes. He puts up great numbers. But he gives them right back up the next time they go down the floor...every time. I liked what was said, he puts up star numbers, but his man puts up Hall-of-Fame numbers. Truer words...
