Gastroenteritis or infectious diarrhea is a medical condition characterized by inflammation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inflammation) ("-itis") of the gastrointestinal tract (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gastrointestinal_tract) that involves both the stomach (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stomach) ("gastro"-) and the small intestine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Small_intestine) ("entero"-), resulting in some combination of diarrhea (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diarrhea), vomiting (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vomiting), and abdominal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abdomen) pain and cramping.[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gastroenteritis#cite_note-EBMED2010-1) Gastroenteritis has also been referred to as gastro, stomach bug, and stomach virus. Although unrelated to influenza (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Influenza), it has also been called stomach flu and gastric flu.
