Dish Network or Direct TV?

We're thinking of switching from Digital Cable to Dish Network or Direct TV, but are having trouble deciding. If you use either service, let me know what you think. I'd appreciate the feedback. Especially if you've used both or left one service for the other...anyone have suggestions? Anything I should know before I sign up for either? Thanks in advance...

I believe that you have to purchase the equipment upfront for dish, whereas the equipment is more or less "given" to you thru directv (especially if you have a special offer). Directv requires that you subscribe to your service so that they can recoup your hardware fees; dish does not, since you pay for them. It's not like you can use either hardware with another service, so that is a plus for Directv.

Pick the programming you like best. If you want a DVR, the one from Directv is far superior - it allows you to watch something else when you are recording (unless dish has come up with a two-tuner DVR in the past few months).

I would highly recommend Directv, I have had a good experience with them. I have the DVR/Tivo, but I don't subscribe to premium programming like HBO, etc. The DVR will change the way you watch TV, seriously. You won't be able to do without it.:tu

It looks like Dish Network is about to lose local programming, so... if you're considering them, wait until after August 1st.

definitely leaning toward DirecTV. I've gotten lots of good feedback on it, and not near as many horror stories as I've gotten for Dish...
