View Full Version : LOL @ Barkley just telling ESPN that we are the 6th best team in the West

SpurPadre
10-28-2013, 09:20 PM
He initially picked his top 5 in the West and when he omitted the Spurs, Chris Berman asked him what about the Spurs and he said, at some point they have to face the fact that they're old and they blew their last best shot in the last Finals. Now I know better than to get butt hurt over the sports media hating on us but this is one guy who's always had respect for the Spurs so it surprises me he'd pick us 6th. He's all on the Clippers' nuts and said the Warriors are his #5 over us. Oh well, fuck his fat ass.

Still, lets not get caught up in what analysts say.

True. Stephen Smith bugs me with his Spurs hate, and inversely his Kobe love. He was just rambling on about how post-injury Mamba will as great as ever, and goes on to point out Kobe's offense numbers from the last few seasons. He seems completely to not notice that Kobe has given up on the defensive side of the ball...

But back to the Spurs. Stephen Smith lives to bash us (particularly poor Tiago). But, we know what he's doing, he play's to popular perceptions to boost his ratings. So touting the Spurs does nothing for him. It's just more ESPN bias.

Charles Barkley is talking out of his ass. People have been calling the Spurs old for years. Last Year - Finals appearance, Previous Year - West Conf. Finals. How do you move a team from 1st in the conference to 6th when they actually improved over the summer when most of the other teams took a step back ?

My Picks:

1. Spurs (Just stay healthy)
2. Clippers (Pretty record, coach is the difference in at least 8 to 10 games). Still undisciplined.
3. Memphis (Clippers edge them out here but fold like a lawn chair against them in the playoffs. Can't change low IQ over night.)
4. Houston (Still one of the stupidest teams in the league. Athletic and stupid.)
5. Oklahoma City (They didn't get better and will be w/o Westbrook for maybe a month? C'MON MAN ! NO betterh than 5th)
6. Golden State - Lost too many intangible pieces. Lost their identity over the offseason. Last season meant nothing.
7.New Orleans - Biggest improvement here.
8. Denver - In by default. Better than Mavs.

So a team that came within one rebound of winning the championship and brought back all of its primary players is supposed to get significantly worse after four months?

No one really cares anymore what the media says or thinks. We know what the Spurs are capable of doing and those who have been following the spurs for more than a decade know well enough not to listen to opinions or favorites.
If anything, health is the biggest concern and if the players can stay healthy, they can hang with anyone in the NBA on both ends of the floors.

We might have blew our last chance back to the finals unless something change. Good thing we picked up Josh Howard and see what he could do. If he proven himself from the d-league and picked up to the Spurs and could give us a solid 5ppg as a shooting guard, we will get back to the finals and finally win a championship. The reason we lost last year was because we didn't have another playmaker, i.e STEPHEN JACKSON. IT IS STUPID TO THINK JACKSON WON'T CONTRIBUTE OR MAKE ANY IMPACT IN THE PLAYOFFS. Popovich got too emotional with Jackson and did not think it through.

Barkley is a contrarian. The last 2 years, he was hopping on the Spurs' bandwagon while the rest of the media was proclaiming us dead. Now that our Finals run has returned us to prominence, he feels inclined to pick against us, simply by virtue of the fact that more and more people are believing in us again.

I agree, at some point age will get to them. The Spurs can't maintain having tremendous seasons year in and year out. Eventually the Spurs will have to come to a point just like the Lakers are now. I'm just praying it doesn't happen too soon, people like Mills and McGrady deserved their rings, players like Duncan and Parker deserved another one.

I like Chuck. his opinion is just as valid as anyone else's. I don't agree with him, but I usually find him to be a fine analyst.

I don't agree. Definition of valid (copy and paste): sound; just; well-founded: a valid reason.

If an astro physicist tells me that in his opinion, the next comet will easily miss the earth based on the data he's viewed and his education and experience, and some random dipshit on a forum says it will hit us based on nothing whatsoever besides what he just pulled from his asshole, his opinion is not "as valid" as the scientist's.

I don't know who started that terrible mentality that all opinions are somehow valid and equal, but that simply isn't true and never has been at any point in the history of the universe. Spurs were moments away from winning the title. . .now they're somehow a scrub ass team who won't even get home court and have been magically surpassed by five other teams (almost all of which they've beaten in the playoffs recently) after 0 games into the season? Opinions not based upon facts, reality, or common sense are not "valid" by definition.

why do people think the thunder are going to be so good? they'll lose some games early on without wb and that alone will cost them some seeding. Plus they look pretty weak, kd couldn't do it on his own last year, and ibaka and sef are not elite enough help to tip the scales. perk is slowing down, and after that you're relying on guys like collison, gomes, thabeet, jackson, and lamb.

you think kd, a returning from injury wb, sef, and perk can be elite enough to get a higher seed than sas, hou, gsw, lac, mem, and maybe even den? hmmmmm
