View Full Version : Obamacare losers could pack political punch

Meet the new Soccer Mom: Obamacare losers.
Millions of married, older, white, college-educated, GOP-leaning Americans have quickly seen their political profile rise after their health insurance companies sent them cancellation letters with the launch of the giant new health care law.
It’s not a huge segment of the population — estimates show between 10 million to 19 million people bought health insurance from what Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius dubbed the “Wild West” individual marketplace.
But the ones who are making the most anti-Obamacare noise are part of this group (think of the self-employed, small business owners, freelance writers, musicians and taxi cab drivers) that share one politically pertinent common denominator. Their complaints — amplified in recent weeks by Republicans and reporters — demonstrate one of the first tangible stumbles of the Affordable Care Act.
“It’s not theoretical anymore,” said Virginia-based health industry consultant Robert Laszewski. “You can spin in the White House press room, but these are people who will be sitting down with their friends and families at Thanksgiving sharing stories about their cancellation letters. That’s going to be the only thing that counts.”

And next Thanksgiving when they have a cheaper policy with greater benefits they will go back to condemning the cranberry...whaaa...

The policies being cancelled are either cheap (or overpriced) junk policies with high deductibles and very poor coverage (no cancer, a couple $100/day hospitalization, or none, no diabetes, no CVD, no etc), giving the non-fine-print-reading policy buyers a spurious sense of security against medical catastrophe, and/or policies the insurance companies don't want to sell anyway.
About 20% of individual policies were cancelled every year BEFORE ACA (where's the Repug outrage?), so there's always been a lot of churn in that market.
Once these cancelled people obtain ACA-improved non-junk policies AND have a medical catastrophe, they'll be GIVING THANKS for ACA saving them from financial catastrophe, bankruptcy (no cc, no house or car financing for years).

they don't know obviously and you cannot expect someone like TSA to not be lazy and educate himself. He already knows everything he wants to know.

Tell me how the ACA has worked out for you or are you not forced to be a part of it?

When a personal anecdote of mine has a bearing on the question on hand then I will let you know. You are now deflecting from the issue at hand. Dissemble more in fear of boutox.

Tell me how your lender forces you to have house/life insurance,
or how your state forces you to have auto insurance,
or how the Feds force you to pay SS/Medicare(both extremely popular and efficient),
or how are you forced to pay taxes and higher health insurance premiums to pay for the uninsured,
or how are you forced to pay property taxes for schools when you don't have kids,
Most uninsured unable to pay hospital bills according to new HHS report
http://www.hhs.gov/news/press/2011pres/05/20110510a.html
nearly two thirds of the costs of treating the uninsured are paid by others, with the total incurred by providers estimated by Congress to be $43 billion in 2008.
http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012/03/25/economists-argue-over-the-cost-of-caring-for-the-uninsured.html
In 2007, 62.1% of filers for bankruptcies claimed high medical expenses. A 2013 study found that about 25% of all senior citizens declare bankruptcy due to medical expenses, and 43% are forced to mortgage or sell their primary residence.[9] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Health_care_in_the_United_States#cite_note-kelley2013-9)

or are you not forced to be a part of those?
typical right-wing anti-ACA "arguments" are based on total ignorance of how the economy works, and their shilling works because the right-wing targets are an ignorant bunch.
