Why was he subed in for tony parker? If pop wanted size, why couldn't he just get Green to defend?

gotta admit though, I was somehwat pleased with Marco's defense. It was shitty, but a tad bit better than neal IMO.

Because he is a better defender than some idiots here give him credit for.

He always plays D for the Spurs in late-game or end-of-quarter scenarios.

mvparker was benched for his bad D, though. :lol

It was a strange call. Guess Green was tired, because his defense was good tonight.

I was waiting for Duncan to be subbed out.

NO, it wasn't a strange call. Pop does this every time in late game situations. Watch the games.

I was also surprised when the commentator said he was subbed in for defensive purposes. Maybe we've missed something on Marco's scouting report.

It was way better than Neal, Neal would've done some stupid shit like foul.

Geez people, don't some of you understand that the time for Pop to experiment with lineups is now. He has to figure out what some of the newcomers are made of in key situations...

Nope. Marco's been a shitty defender his entire career. Look at the impact statistics.

What about Diaw in for Splitter? Diaw isn't big enough to guard D.Lee, and Diaw is not a good rebounder, still allowed D.Lee to tip the basketball in the final play

It's probably because defending lee requires a more mobile defender..That and if it's a kickout, boris should be able to run on the three point line faster than Tiago

he obviously wants to see what the guy can do, obviously the results are terrible.

Warriors were playing a "big" lineup
Thompson
Iguodala
Barnes
Lee
Bogut

any of those could easily shoot over Parker in an iso situation so you need some length on him
it ended up working because Belinelli did a good job contesting Iguodalas shot

Not sure if Diaw is so much faster than Splitter...He is shorter and worse rebounder though

I agree OP, I thought it was strange Danny Green wasn't used either. It worked out okay though since it mainly seemed to just be to get Kawhi on the better scorer out there, so we can't really complain. I agreed with him adding a taller defender too.

I'm going to assume he went with Bel because Pop assumes he's a more clutch FT shooter? In case he got the rebound and was fouled. Would make a little bit of sense.

I don't agree that the time to experiment is in a 2 point game late in the 4th against a rival team who may be battling with you for seeding in the standings by the end of the season.

:lol way too much over-analyzing, tbh..

Pop doesn't give a fuck about the regular season, he tinkers and experiments all the time..we always wonder why he makes certain decisions and plays shitty lineups too long, but it's all experimentation..

He put Beli out there in a late-game situation to test him out, he's a new piece on the team, the coach needs to know what type of personnel he has on his roster, and he needs to be aware of which players can be successful on the court in every situation..

Belineli is a terrible defensive player, he has been his entire career, I doubt he will be subbed in for defensive purposes in a playoff game, especially over a good defender like Green..

Yeah i though the same thing last season until he played a new lineup in the last 30 seconds of a championship game

Pop suffers from chokitis sometimes.. He intentionally puts the team in a bad situation to see how they can work their way out.

HarlemHeat37

The historically bad, choking decision to leave Duncan out is not the same as subbing in a poor defender for defensive purposes, tbh..

I shat on Pop for that choke/stupid decision, but at least his reasoning kind of made sense, he wanted to be able to guard the shooters..subbing in Beli for defensive purposes in a playoff game wouldn't be the same, as there's no logical reason for it..

It's one thing to have him in as the fourth wing like in the Suns game. It's another entirely to have him check the best wing on the other side while leaving on the bench the player most responsible for forcing Iggy into a poor shooting night before that. I agree with the folks saying he's testing Belinelli
I don't know if he's passing so far.

Pop wanted kawhi on Thompson. Parker can't gaurd Andre, too small. Simple as that.

I'm impressed with Belli's defense so far, unlike what others say. He moves his feet well and is big enough to guard the 3.

People around here act like Neal didn't take charges, get steals or have occasional good defensive sequences too. Neal just didn't have threads dedicated to his defense stops because nobody really cared. For some reason, posters need to point out every time Belinelli does something right on the defensive end by starting joke threads just so they can throw Neal under the bus. Posters can continue to lie to themselves but that isn't going to change the fact that Belinelli's defense isn't any better than Neal's.

BELI WITH IT!!!!

Beli's 1-on-1 defence was surprisingly good tonight, and his defence has not been bad enough to be remarkable in any of the earlier games this season.
Neal with it.

He did it to test Marco and see if he'd be up for the task. Just looking at personnel but honestly Pop was trying to lose the game. Oh and the defense he played was awful. He basically let Iggy get past him in hopes that Tim would bail him out. Luckily, it worked this time.
