View Full Version : Is Manu Ever Going to Get His Jump Shot Back tbh?

PlayNando

You expect a TOSB to lose his athleticism, but you don't expect a TOSB to forget how to shoot. Unfortunately, that seems to be the case with our TOSB... :(

Darius McCrary

He lost his shot over an entire season ago, tbh

itzsoweezee

Popovich is playing him too many minutes. Manu should be playing 15 - 20 min. a game. He's getting to Michael Finley levels.

This is the kind of game to do it too... up 30...

He probably took a few ill advised shots because of the large lead for exactly the reasons ElNono spoke of. He is looking in good shape really, I like Manu playing a little pissed off! Beware Philly!

This is the way I feel as well for the most part. However, one was bricked badly today which was unlike the others. As long as he doesn't make the backcourt or inside feed turnovers I don't much care. Those resulted in fast breaks the other way and fucked us all last post season.

Is this thread about JR Smith or Manu? Seriously guys, stop whining.

FIBA does suck. So does the notion that Pop is Tim's creation. Tim has a lot to do with Pop's success, and he's certainly the foundation of the franchise.

But you can see all around the league how easy it is to fuck things up from the bench, and Pop has a 15 year track record of making extremely wise decisions.

Don't change the subject. Duncan is great, but he's not capable of making a turd team a winner. Ask Larry Brown...

Duncan couldn't win shit on his own outside perhaps 2003. Look at Lebron in Cleveland to see how important good coaching and FO is. Nobody is taking anything away from TD, but you don't need to diminish Pop to enhance Duncan greatness. They're both HoF on their own right.

That's silly. Dallas had the 'best team on paper' and '60 wins' season a year later and couldn't get out of the first round. Sometimes you're not healthy (TD had plantar fasciitis during that series) or you run into a bad matchup. Those were the years we were still looking for a 'Dirk stopper'. Us and the rest of the league.

Pop himself will tell you Tim is the foundation. He built a team around Tim to maximize his strengths (ie: surround him with shooters to space the floor for him).

And Tim is great on his own right. But the fact that teams keep hiring Pop's assistant coaches throughout the league and teams keep trying to copy our team's system and culture comes straight from what Pop built.

You might disagree with certain decisions he made (not fouling last Finals, marrying Finley/Bonner), etc. But this is a game where you can't win with a single superstar. You need a team around, and he's been able to build a team successfully around the star, and make it consistently good. How's that not great?

That's silly. Dallas had the 'best team on paper' and '60 wins' season a year later and couldn't get out of the first round.

Based on SRS, The Spurs were the best team in the league in 2007. Dallas were winning a lot of close games and overachieved that year. They weren't really any better than the 2007 Suns...certainly not on the Spurs level. SRS numbers for that year:

8.35 - Spurs
7.28 - Mavs
7.27 - Suns

Sometimes you're not healthy (TD had plantar fasciitis during that series) or you run into a bad matchup.

Despite the plantar fascitis, TD put up a dominant statline against Dallas over those seven games. Best player in the series. Manu was the third best player in the series. How Pop could lose a series while having the best player and third player AND homecourt, I'll never know.

Those were the years we were still looking for a 'Dirk stopper'. Us and the rest of the league.

Dirk was not unstoppable back then. He looked mediocre against the Heat, terrible against the Warrior during his MVP year the season after. 2011 Dirk you could say was unstoppable. 2007 Dirk had flaws in his game that could be exploited.

The Spurs had the best SRS from 2003-04 to 2006-07. We only won half the time. Dallas had the league's best SRS in 2002-03, and we eliminated them. That's because you can't pick and choose stats to suit your narrative. TD didn't get hurt till late in the season. Dirk got hurt in our series in 02-03. This stuff happens, and that's why the numbers are rarely the whole story.

Despite the plantar fascitis, TD put up a dominant statline against Dallas over those seven games. Best player in the series. Manu was the third best player in the series. How Pop could lose a series while having the best player and third player AND homecourt, I'll never know.

TD put up monster numbers, but ask any Mavs fan how Spursfan completely overrated Diop for what he did that series against Tim. And it really wasn't Diop. Tim really stepped it up that series, but he couldn't give 100%.

The only thing that I didn't like was Pop pretty much throwing that Game 2 after that fatal 2nd quarter. But in hindsight, he might just been trying to avoid TD from getting even more hurt.

Dirk was not unstoppable back then. He looked mediocre against the Heat, terrible against the Warrior during his MVP year the season after. 2011 Dirk you could say was unstoppable. 2007 Dirk had flaws in his game that could be exploited.

We couldn't stop him. Dirk matched Duncan in offensive production. He shot 52% from the field (vs 55% for TD) and scored 190 points (vs 226 for TD).

If you look at that series, we just didn't have enough offense, and only made it close because of our D. They had 4 players that scored 100+ points during the series (Dirk, Terry, Howard and Stackhouse). Harris came fifth with 89. The Spurs only had 3 (Tim, Manu and Tony). The fourth was Finley with 74 points. After that, you're looking at players contributing 30 points or so for the entire 7 game series.

I see Manu's role slowly changing over the course of the season and his minutes being distributed more evenly with other members of the team.

:tu I think so. Especially if his shot is gone for good. I predicted his minutes would dilute to Belli and Green. Manu still valuable, but he most definitely should not keep same role he played in 2013 playoffs.

As long as he plays within himself I'm okay with how he performs. He'll never be what he once was but he'll show flashes.

hope so

Agreed. His shot looks like garbage. No idea why someone who does this for a living can't figure out SOMETHING to make that aspect of his game better. I still think it has something to do with that broken hand.
