Ayres is better than Bonner simply due to the confounding name change tbh which adds to his sense of mystique.

That's why I've said many times that the Spurs need a quality big bad, to backup Splitter/Diaw and that 37yr tired old shit bag. They need a defensive-minded big to accompany Duncan and to save him energy for the offensive end, like the 08' Kurt Thomas. Splitter and Diaw are decent players but most of their value lies in their offensive abilities rather than defensive ones imho.

He's worse. At least Bonner can do this

Is Bonner still on the team? I haven't seen his name in a box score for a while.

we been saying that for decades already, ever since The Admiral retired. truth is, it's probably not going to happen. Diaw + Splitter is a huge improvement over other frontlines that we've had in the past, Elson, Oberto, Rasho, etc. Unfortunately, back then we had a prime Timmy who could carry any old scrub to a title. Now, we have old Timmy who needs help obviously, but IMO if Splitter can find his nutsack somehow and if Diaw can keep his output up to the playoffs, I'm pretty happy about the frontline.

Spurs will live and die by their wing players and PG anyway.

Just posted this a few seconds ago about Bonner, but it highlights my thoughts on Ayres

The dude sucks. He has always sucked. He can make a good % of his three point shots, but that's because he's too much of a bitch to shoot if anyone is within 5 feet of him. He has always been a huge liability on defense, even more so these past two years. He pump fakes and drives in with the speed of a six year old; the other PF's just walk beside him because he's that slow. & why does he even drive in? Every team/player that we play against knows he can't do shit/ won't do shit except for that floater that he misses more often than he misses a 3 point shot. He is a known playoff choker, he had one good game against Memphis last year - that's pretty much it. Did I miss anything?

He is better than Ayres though. But they are the only two players in the league I know that can pick up five fouls in eight minutes of play.

I also take back some of the hate I've had for Bonner. Bonner's a legend compared to Errors.

I'd rather have the Collins twins(even the fudgepacker) with one running the point and the other chucking up threes than have Ayres in the same arena as the Spurs.

Bonner is a known quantity. You know how to use him. You'd use Ayres if you wanted to make silly turnovers, not fight for rebounds and bow up like you're a badass after you've been skull fucked by a PG.
