NEW YORK — With his starting job gone and his playing time slashed, Rockets center Omer Asik has asked to be traded, two individuals with knowledge of the request said Thursday.
Asik, who started every game after signing with the Rockets last season, came off the bench Wednesday in Philadelphia, but struggled. He played only four minutes and not at all in the second half. Asik has made his trade request within the past 48 hours, a person familiar with the conversations said.

I still think Spencer Hawes would be a good fit for Houston. He can both play next to Howard and back him up at the five. That's an extremely rare skill set. Philly would probably want prospects back for him, so a three-team deal with Atlanta could work. The Hawks get Asik while keeping Millsap, the Rockets net Hawes for a song, and the Sixers get back a couple of prospects like Noguiera and Jenkins while taking on Brand's expiring for ballast.

Can't blame Dwight for this one. The Rockets gave Asik money no one else would at the time. He pouted the minute he would be the backup and went public with a trade twice. While he is a better defendw r, he has worse post moves than Dwight and still can't finish around the rim. I like Asik but I think he think he is more talented than he really is.

In an effort to unload disgruntled center Omer Asik, the Houston Rockets (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/teams/hou) have engaged in trade talks with multiple teams and are demanding an impact player in return, league sources told Yahoo Sports.Rival executives say that Rockets general manager Daryl Morey has been active in discussing possible deals for Asik, but his asking price has been too high so far. Morey has been willing to accommodate Asik's summertime trade request, but so far has found little traction on possible deals.
Unless a team is willing to give the Rockets a frontline player who can help them win in the short-term, Morey is open to acquiring a largely unprotected first-round pick in the loaded 2014 NBA draft, sources said.

Houston and Washington did discuss a deal involving Asik, league sources said, but the Wizards ultimately acquired Phoenix's Marcin Gortat to fill its hole at center. The Rockets had no interest in taking back center Emeka Okafor (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3819), who could be lost for the season because of a neck injury.
Morey and Asik's agent, Andy Miller, have been in regular contact about facilitating a trade. Asik, 27, requested the trade shortly after the Rockets reached agreement with free-agent center Dwight Howard in July.
Asik can't publicly demand a trade without risking a fine by the NBA. Those discussions have taken place in private.
It is unlikely a deal will happen before December 15, when many players in the NBA, who signed as free agents in the offseason, become eligible to be traded.
Houston coach Kevin McHale recently abandoned his short-lived attempt at starting Asik and Howard on the Rockets' frontline. Asik is considered a starting-caliber NBA center, especially dominant on the defensive end. Asik has two years and $20 million left on his deal, which runs out in the summer of 2015.
One deal that appealed to the Rockets included reuniting Dwight Howard and New Orleans forward Ryan Anderson (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/4483), who played together with the Orlando Magic (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/teams/orl). New Orleans had showed interest in an Anderson-for-Asik deal around last summer's NBA draft, but talks never gathered much momentum, sources said.
The Pelicans need a strong, interior player to alleviate the physical burden of rising young star Anthony Davis (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/5007), but thus far have been unwilling to re-engage talks with Houston on the deal, sources said. Anderson is the kind of stretch four – a jump-shooting power forward – who would fit perfectly with Howard on the Houston frontline.

Raptors Trade Rumour: Could Rockets' Asik be on the way to Toronto?

Novak and Amir Johnson for Asik. Everybody happy! Shooter and a Stretch 4
or Amir Johnson PF and J. Valanciunas C for Asik
These two trades work out on ESPN Trade Machine.

Atlanta trading Millsap for Asik is possible in a deal, I'd be shocked if they even considered Horford, tbh..
Amir Johnson and filler for Asik would be a solid move for the Rockets, tbh, Amir is underrated and would fit well with Houston's style..I'm guessing the Raptors will attempt to acquire Lin, though..
Asik/Lin for Amir/Lowry/Fields?..

How about Dalembert + Crowder for Asik? Dalembert would be a decent backup for DH and nigga wouldn't complain about being a backup, Crowder is a solid performer on both ends of the floor and would be a significant upgrade over the likes of Garcia and Delfino imho. Asik is a badass defensive C with abilities in grabbing rebounds and blocking shots, and he's much more consistent than Dalembert. Asik and Dirk would complement each other very well in the paint just like TC and Dirk in 11', if dude ended up joining us, and they would probably give us the whitest starting big man combo of the league (knowing that Kaman and Pau don't start together)

- Can stretch the floor

Before Saturday night’s game against Denver at Toyota Center, Rockets center Omer Asik was nowhere to be found.
He was in the building but unavailable to play.
He didn’t attend the shootaround that morning.
When coach Kevin McHale was asked about Asik’s status, he said, “O will not play tonight.”
Pause.
“He did not (attend the shootaround). He is under the weather.”
This comes just two days after reports that Asik has requested a trade from the Rockets. He has started eight games this season. But in the last two, he played a total of four minutes.
‘Do whatever we can’
Before the trade request, McHale had started to waver from his experimental lineup featuring Asik and center Dwight Howard, who was moved to the four position.
The experiment hasn’t worked as planned for the Rockets.
“The lineup with me and (Asik) sometimes is great,” Howard said. “Sometimes it is better to have a smaller lineup with a conventional five and four. But there are times when he and I can be very successful, and we are going to do whatever we can while we are on the floor and try to make it work.”
McHale and general manager Daryl Morey have talked to Asik to try to make him understand the situation, a person with knowledge of the conversations said.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1854177-houston-rockets-reportedly-certain-to-trade-disgruntled-center-omer-asik
Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski (http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nba--rockets-have-talked-to-multiple-teams-about-trading-disgruntled-center-omer-asik-230322619.html) says Rockets general manager Daryl Morey has already started shopping Asik around the league:
In an effort to unload disgruntled center Omer Asik, the Houston Rockets have engaged in trade talks with multiple teams and are demanding an impact player in return, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
Rival executives say that Rockets general manager Daryl Morey has been active in discussing possible deals for Asik, but his asking price has been too high so far. Morey has been willing to accommodate Asik's summertime trade request, but has found little traction on possible deals.

No his knee was never injured. He held out from playing at all until he was traded, which they tried to talk him into playing. They needed to make it look like an injury so it wouldn't become public and be a distraction. His trade value was going down either way. It is much worse if teams knew he was throwing tantrums.

They actually didn't say much publicly at all really, all they said it was a thigh bruise, which I think it actually was initially. They always said x-rays were negative. Then they didn't say anything for two months. It was never his knee though. What could you get in return for a guy who quit on a winning team only months into the season in which whoever trades for him has to pay 15 million next year?

Lin was benched for Beverley and didn't bitch about it or demand a trade. He was also signed to be a starter. Also, if Asik had requested the trade and kept it quiet, then he would have likely been traded by now. Instead, it was made public, and they lose any leverage they had, and he hurts his chances of getting another good contract. They can keep him and get more for him in the offseason.

& you're right, Lin didn't demand a trade. Asik did. The protocol now is to grant that demand. You're trying to resurrect an old protocol where the team was within it's rights to deny the demand. I think a person's ego is in proportion to his height, or the darkness of his skin or whatsoever, either way it explains why Rin doesn't bitch about being a bench player but Asik does. The situation the Lockets are confronting now is a similar one like what the Mavs faced during the 10-11 season, when their former starting C (contract whore Haywood) was demoted to the bench because big daddy TC proved to be a much better fit for this team. Bitchmade Haywood was pissed and started to play like an ass, and later became a cancer on our team that would eventually get amnestied in a year or so.
But the difference is, there were no teams willing to take that contract whore and his newly-signed shitty contract, while Asik is still a decent asset that many teams who want to upgrade their paint would like to pay decent price (prospects + picks) for.
