Official Press Release

The Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced that the Government of Canada has issued a request to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunication Commission (CRTC), under Section 15 of the Broadcasting Act, to report on television channel choice.

“As stated in the most recent Speech from the Throne, our Government believes Canadian families should be able to choose the combination of television channels they want,” said Minister Glover. “This decision is an important step in defending Canadian consumers, who want choice and flexibility in their television services. Our request will ensure that the CRTC develops a more complete roadmap to unbundle TV channels.”

On October 24, 2013, the CRTC launched wide-ranging consultations on the future of television in Canada. The requested report will focus specifically on the issue of unbundling of television channels, including the steps the CRTC intends to take in that regard. The report is to be submitted no later than April 30, 2014. Canadians are encouraged to get involved in shaping their future options with respect to television services by taking part in the broader dialogue on television with the CRTC.

Section 15 of the Broadcasting Act gives the Government of Canada, via the Governor in council, the ability to request that the CRTC hold hearings or make reports on any matter within the jurisdiction of the Commission under the Act.

What channels would you even get? LOL if my cable bill could be only for ESPN, ESPN2, TNT, and NBATV.

ROFL comcast

I know a lot of people here who have ALL the U.S channels with satellite dishes/OTA

Unfortunately I cant install one in my building (not that I watch a lot of TV anyway, but it's still nice to have options)
