Quick recap:

Prelude to our fall from grace: Shannon Brown screwed Pau's girl (reportedly). This screwed Pau's head up and the Lakers - as we fell to eventual champion Mavs
Enter Mike Brown as HC :lol
Mike Brown fired. :) PJ...not rehired. :(
MDA hired and still here :bang

The rest don't matter tbh. I'm hoping Fredo cleans house this offseason.

That would be dumb for several reasons. Let me count them:

Kobe has made MILLION$ for the Lakers. Still does. Why get rid of your cash cow?
Why amnesty Kobe in the last year of his deal? They would pay him $30M to go play for...the Clippers just to piss off the Lakers' FO? Yeah that would sit well with Laker Nation.
They already amnestied MWP.
Nash may medically retire (http://www.latimes.com/sports/lakersnow/la-sp-ln-lakers-steve-nash-medical-retirement-back-injury-20131112,0,2013471.story#axzz2km60cSIg) anyway.

Kobe has to prove he's worth another NBA contract. To do that, he has to play. I'm expecting the Lakers to slowly work him in to eventually playing 40-50 games. Lakers sell their tickets. Kobe passes MJ. Win-win for both.

I know but that didn't stop Daddy slinging cheap shots at Kobe during the season. It was understandable though, the transcript was out and Kobe ratted Shaq out and in the meantime, Shaq was having an MVP season.

Tanking is for bitches. The idea of professional athletes playing half-assed (or even intentionally losing) is fucking mind-blowing.

I mean, it's one thing for management to say "Hey guys, it would really help us in the long run if we raise the probability of getting that #1 pick."

But it's entirely another thing for the players to go out on the court and intentionally play anything less than their best.

If we lose a few more games out of this "easy" stretch, which started with a loss to the Sixers ...

We going lotto for sure. They should go ahead and

Trade MVPau to the Cavs for Baby Drew/Earl Clark and 2015 1st
Waive Baby Drew before 7 Jan 2014
Convince Nash to medically retire, then stretch his contract for 3yrs/$3M+
Convince Kobe to chase MJ's scoring total next year
Roll with the youngins to see who is worth keeping next year

Once they go lotto, here is my wish list in order of preference:

Jabari Parker
Embiid
Randle
Wiggins
Smart

A bit premature here, but my dream of landing either Parker, Embiid, Randle, Wiggins or Smart on a cheap rookie contract are looking good. I present to you farmers, the "Tank Standings"

1. Milwaukee.........7-24....--
2. Utah...............10-24...1.5
3. New York..........9-21...2.5
4. Philadelphia......9-21...2.5
5. Brooklyn.........10-21...3.0
6. Orlando...........10-21...3.0
7. Cleveland........10-21...3.0
8. Sacramento.....10-20...3.5
9. Chicago...........12-18...5.5
10. Lakers.........13-19...6.5
11. Memphis.......13-17...7.5
12. Denver..........14-16...8.5
13. New Orleans..14-15..9.0
14. Minnesota.....15-16...9.0

Only 6.5 games better than the worst team (who just "beat" us BTW :lol) which increases the chances of the Lakers landing a stud in next year's draft. :downspin:

A couple things:
1. Happy New year, DMC I hope whatever fuels your caustic wit is healthy and not out of a place of pain ....
2. I agree as much as I like parker or admire the raw athleticism of Wiggins or Exum neither is Lebron ...
3. Lebron just turned 29 he is abeast one of the greatest I have ever seen ... if not the greatest ...but it won't last. for the Lakers or any other team with title hopes you want to be in position to contend in the next few years ...Being a title contender right now is pointless. He is just too good. (yet spurs still had him deads to rights)
4. I agree we paid Kobe too much but we weren't winning it this year or next anyway. Lakers need to determine if Hill, Henry Meeks or Johnson are keepers.
5. We suck I get it. enjoy while it lasts. I just ask that this team competes which they have done until the run of PG injuries and that we get a top pick which it seems like we will because of the PG injuries ...

We will draft a good player. the next Lebron? No but how often does a "Lebron/Kobe/Duncan type become available? Kobe wasnt expected to be Kobe heck even Paul George was drafted at a spot outside of top5 that proves many did not expect him to be a top 5 NBA player.

Jabarior or wiggins doesnt need to be Lebron, because Lebron's reign will end in the next few years ... if we get either and he is Paul George that is fine. Plus Lebron as a top pick pretty much shits on all top picks of the last 20 years tbh. Not even the better ones like Rose or Dwight are anywhere close to Lebron. duncan is the last top pick you could even CONSIDER arguing could of been taking ahead of James. And that INCLUDES a pre-injury Greg Oden.

Not in LA. Imagine if Lebron went to LA that year instead. So it's Lebron, Kobe, Nash, Gasol and Artest. Imagine that. Howard is a "get out of jail free" card for the opponent in close games, because he's just an intentional foul away from a change of possession.

If Lebron was there, they'd be a 3-5 seed and their injuries would still catch up to them. And Artest sucked last year. Gasol also looked done and had multiple injuries and missed 30+ games.

Nash and Blake would still have been injured, bench still sucks, Kirby and Bron are forced to play 40 minutes every game. I doubt they'd have anything left for us once we met in the semis/WCF.

We beat them easily.

I don't believe half of those injuries. With Lebron, the team has a good outlook and likely has a good record going into the break. Lebron makes LA a contender last year. Besides, they probably don't get Nash if they get Lebron because Lebron can play the point. Instead they go after a stretch 4.

they're only 3 games behind the #2 place it seems like, and their record of the past 10 games is tied best with Boston, so you have every reason to believe the Lakers will finish top 3 at least. Lakers play in the west, which's a big advantage for them over those eastern candidates imho, knowing that the top 10 only contains 3 western teams (Lakers, Jazz and Kings)

Only teams that will probably/definitely finish worse than us are: Jazz and Bucks.
Lakers are just as bad as all the other contenders for a top pick but have more injuries.
We also have an extended road trip that should further cement the fact that the season is lost.
Losses to the Wiz, pistons etc on the road should gets us a at least a top 5 pick.
Trading Pau at all-star break even if it's for a later pick to a contender would help and also be wise ...

Even if it's as a luxury big a la PJ brown for the Celts in 2008 or as a more useful one like Sheed for the Pistons in 2004 (not sure he can give THAT but from a post skill standpoint ...)

SI dropping truth bombs:

Things often work out for the Lakers even when it seems they don't. This could go down as the worst season in the history of the franchise, but it comes at the best time: They actually own their first-round pick, a rarity given their lust for veteran headliners, and the draft is as stocked as it's been at any point in the past decade. There may not be another LeBron James or Kevin Durant, but every general manager in the top seven can hope for a transformational player.

The Lakers, unlike some other NBA stragglers, did not try to tank. Bryant came back from the torn Achilles and broke a bone in his knee. Jordan Farmar tore one part of his left hamstring and then another. Nash tried to play through nerve damage. The tank has been forced upon them. They may finally realize, after this seven-game haul, that they can't fight it anymore. The tank is not in their heart but it is in their interest.

in all honesty I don't see Fredo being a total failure, but I really don't see him being as good as his dad. First, because his dad was very smart and a self made man, which Fredo is your typical trust fund baby. But also just the reality of the NBA with more teams wanting to compete. I'm sure Lakers will win a title at some point, but 5 championships in 10+ years, I don't see that happening again imo. Tbh, I don't even think Spurs could pull off the same dominance again that we had with TD, and we haven't even had that same dominance since we ushered into the Tony Parker Experience. Imho, as long as Spurs can compete and win a title here and there, that will be gravy.

Heat best player is in the conversation with MJ, and not in a media hype bs way like Rapist. Our best player is barely in the MVP conversation. quit :downspin: that shit.

But, you had James beat, plain & simple. It was over. Don't be so fucking stubborn, gd it. What happened to you reminds of what happened to Owen Hart. He got bored up there waiting for his turn and started fiddling with the apparatus. That's what happened with Pop...he got bored and started fucking around and it got away from him.

Pop shat the bed, you won't find any disagreement from me. Spurs fans turned on one another over this but I know Pop, Manu and Parker dropped the ball the worst. heat were still the better team. We were the underdogs and had a moment to pull off the miracle, but we didn't have the right stuff. It happens.

Remember when that 2014 draft was so great? Last month? It’s taken some hits of late with Andrew Wiggins, the star of stars last year in high school, drawing questions from NBA scouts on readiness and even where he plays. Joel Embiid, now the consensus No. 1, has a high ceiling but is young and thin and in need of development. Marcus Smart can’t shoot. Julius Randle’s Kentucky team is out of the top 10. And the growing view among NBA executives seems to be Jabari Parker will not leave Duke this year. Chicagoan Jahlil Okafor, a Parker friend and big man, is going to Duke next season. Parker is a bright young man with a strong family and the feeling is he understands both the importance of education and feels he owes Duke and the chance to have a great Duke team, which more than likely is the next two seasons. Plus, Parker has seen what staying in school has done for other greats compared with the tough starts for even stars like Kobe Bryant.

Having the #5 best record on the tank rankings doesn't guarantee you a top5 pick imho, you still have 4 teams to beat to secure it imho (knowing that teams with the worst record rarely drops out of top 5)
