An uncatchable ball is a ball thrown way over a receiver's head or far to the side, etc..

That ball wasn't uncatchable, it would have taken Gronk like 2 steps to reach it:lol..even if it was a bad throw, you can't just hold the receiver back and prevent him from making the play..

Now whether or not the same can be said for the last play in this game, debatable.

The thing is when a player is offside on soccer that player always is unintentionaly offside. When a player interfers a rival on the NFL it's always on porpuse so that guy should be called for trying to cheat no matter how far away the ball ends up going, imho.

An uncatchable ball is a ball thrown way over a receiver's head or far to the side, etc..

That ball wasn't uncatchable, it would have taken Gronk like 2 steps to reach it:lol..even if it was a bad throw, you can't just hold the receiver back and prevent him from making the play..
yeah its a tough judgement call, and if the game was in Foxborough they wouldn't have picked the flag back up. was just explaining the rationale behind the no call.

gronk couldn't and wouldn't catch that horrible ass pass. it was a INT the whole way, get over it!!! lol. it was just another attempt by the pats to force the refs to bail him out. thankfully, one of the refs said enough was enough and said pick that flag up.

exactly, if an INT just cancels out PI, then whenever a QB throws into double coverage then one guy could take out the receiver and the other guy pick it off.

there was no PI called tonight so obviously the scenario does not apply

the refs made a judgement call. you could definitely argue it was a botch, but they didn't deny the foul, they just deemed it uncatchable regardless of the foul. whether they were right or wrong is a different story

The thing is when a player is offside on soccer that player always is unintentionaly offside. When a player interfers a rival on the NFL it's always on purpose so it should be called, imho.

But no one really intends to be offside, no? And intentional or not, it's a still a foul as long as you are involved in the play. Just the same, it's not a foul if you're not involved in the play, even if the offside was 'intentional'.

I think the same spirit applies here, imo

I can actually see that being fine. Gronk wasn't about to fucking blow through the MLB and DB to catch that ball even if he wasn't held. You could go for a lesser penalty, but not PI.

the rationale behind the no call was that the contact didn't matter and gronk would have had no chance to make a play on the ball anyway. there have been plenty of interceptions negated due to pass interference tbh

No player ever tries to be offside, that's why I think it's OK to call it when an offside player is involved on the play but not when they aren't. The diference with the interference call is that suppossedly every "interference" is intentional, so if a guy is trying to cheat that guy should be penalized no matter where the ball ends up going, imho.

I get what you're saying. But then do we call PI even when a QB's arm gets hit mid-release (fumble)? On a sack?

Anyways in this game I'm torn. I think the ball would've been picked regardless. Though I kinda agree with you that you shouldn't be able to commit clear PI when the ball is in play, robbing the receiver of even having the opportunity to make a play. It's not as if a receiver is guaranteed to catch the ball in typical PI situations (one on one coverage).

Real talk though, it's gonna be extra frustrating for Belichick when the NFL issues an apology later this week for the no-call. They should never do that shit, it's like a slap in the face to every team that gets screwed. Happened to the Bills when they played the Raiders in 04 or 05. Henry scored on a 4th and goal but they said he didn't. One empty apology later, it just made things worse. That loss ended up being huge down the road.

its a tough call, and imo the ref has to be 100% sure its uncatchable to pick the flag up, so i can definitely understand the outrage. though the PI doesn't really start until u see Kuechly's right hand on gronk's back imo, which wouldn't have given him much time to make a play, given his own momentum was carrying him back

You said like 5 words dude, it's not hard to get mixed up on what you're saying. You said the cut would be easy. I contend that plowing through a MLB and a DB is not easy. Even if the MLB does not hold him, his body still has mass. Gronk is not a superhuman. He cannot stop on a dime, then push through Kuechly then try to catch the ball. (all within under a second given that Brady had already released the ball...) If Brady hadn't thrown the ball yet then it makes perfect sense that he'd potentially have time to do all of the above.
