View Full Version : Nets: Did Jason Kidd become a coach too early?

Think so. Jordan's success did not translate into a good FO stint, and the same is happening to Kidd early in his coaching career. Does he have enough to turn it around?

I doubt Kidd actually coaches the team, tbh, he's probably a figurehead/motivator..

It doesn't matter, anyways..in the NBA, if you have connections, you'll receive an abundance of coaching attempts, they constantly recycle ex-players that are shitty coaches..

Kidd was the on-court coach when he was a player but it appears to me that the Nets (bulging with sophisticated veterans and bad boys) are not the right team for him to start with. Maybe he should've chosen a young rebuilding team imho

always found him overrated as a player

could care less if he avg a triple double when it doesnt translate to wins, no need to boast about his stats

remember rebounding is not a pre-req for a PG skillset, it is only a bonus...its not like his going into the key and boxing out pfs/centers for his reboundings

I still have faith the Nyets will right the ship and have a decent season. I still believe they will be in the top 4 in the weak East. not saying much but with the right roll of teh dice they still could make the East Finals.

People overestimate his value on that 2011 championship. Carlisle coached circles around Spoelstra.

The Nets needed a people-manager more than anything else. Even if Kidd is good at Xs and O's, I've never heard of him being adept at balancing egos. He wasn't the right coach for Brooklyn. He needs time to learn the psychological part of being a coach. That usually comes from time on the bench as an assistant if it's not god-given.

I don't think it's too early for him to become an NBA coach, but he would have been a better fit for a tanking/rebuilding franchise like Boston or Phoenix. No pressure to win, can try different things/change around the system as you like, if you suck, the fans won't really care as they'll look forward to the draft, etc.

Kidd has the IQ to be a coach, but he should have started out on a smaller stage.

I think PJ Carlesimo would have been a better fit for the group of guys Kidd is currently coaching. Why was Carlesimo fired anyway?

Let's be real now, just because Kidd isn't having immediate success doesn't make PJ a good coach.... that moron thought Durant was a shooting guard :lol

No. There are a lot of shitty coaches in the NBA. Kidd can't be any worse than most of them.

Agreed. Look at Shaw. People raved about him and his team looks awful. What's funny is the only one that seems to maximize what he has is Mark Jackson and I thought he would be the worst.

No he did not become a coach to fast. He became a HEAD coach too fast. Had he spent 2 years as an assistant he would have been better prepared to lead as a head coach.

it's almost as if hiring a guy with literally 0 coaching experience is a bad idea or something.

this Nets owner is the biggest fucking retards in sports. and he's just ruining the game with his shitty contracts and overall bad team management, not giving a fuck.

HarlemHeat37

Again, like I said earlier in this thread, Kidd doesn't actually coach the team, which has been confirmed by several people/scouts, tbh..his head assistant is Lawrence Frank, an experienced coach in the NBA..his team is full of veteran players, including a great leader in Garnett, they don't require motivation..Kidd is just a figurehead, he was never expected to do much, which I've said since he was hired..

The Nets aren't failing due to coaching..the Nets are failing because of injuries and lack of chemistry, with the lack of chemistry being due to the injuries to their key players..you can't develop chemistry when Deron Williams, Brook Lopez, Garnett and Kirilenko can't stay on the court, those are 4 of your top 5 players..

I dislike Kidd for being a wife beating pussy and one of the most overrated players in history, but I don't know why he's getting blame for a team full of injuries and old-ass players, tbh:lol..

Kidd became a headcoach too early imho. Dude was always the smartest player on the court while he was playing, he was actually the on-court coach, but I believe being the head coach of an NBA team is a completely different story. Avery spent quite a few years being a bench warmer while learning how to be a coach, and that experience delivered, while Kidd became a headcoach instantly after he retired as a player it seemed like. I have no doubt about Kidd's potential to be a great coach but he definitely still has a lot to learn, and the Nyets are surely not the best team for a rookie coach to start with imho. Kidd would've been better off if he had been coaching a young team full of rookies and scrubs, rather than a team comprised of big name TOSBs imho.

Kidd overrated here. Yes, he was a great point guard. Just like Magic. And just like Magic, he can't coach. People think that just because you are a talented star player, that you can coach. How good was Phil Jackson as a player? Pop never even made it to the NBA. I'm not saying it's impossible for great players to become good/great coaches, but coaching is more than just knowing the game. You have to know people and motivate people. Kidd was a great player and a self motivator, but he's not coaching Jason Kidd, he's coaching Deron Williams et al. I'm sure Kidd isn't great at the X and Os (that's why he hired an assistant), but he's coaching his peers, and I just don't think they play hard enough for him for whatever reason. Superstars are used to people groveling over them. Not sure how they can relate to people once they're not the center of attention.
