As Boris is becoming a key player for the Spurs, I thought a little thread to help people know him a bit better would be useful.
His full name is Boris Babacar Diaw-Riffiod, his mother Elisabeth Riffiod is considered as one the best center in French women's basketball history, his dad Issa Diaw is Senegalese and former high jump champion. His second first name Babacar is related to his Senegalese roots.
Teenager he has been enrolled by JSA Bordeaux before going to French Federation basketball team in Paris. After two years he starts in 2001 in Pro A for Pau Orthez. During his third season, elected best French player of the league, he won 41 out of the 45 French competitions official games played by Pau Orthez and the three competitions he played during that stretch. He won also that season the French dunk contest :lol
He is then drafted by the Hawks #21 in 2003, traded to the suns plus two first round in 2005 for Joe Johnson before being landed to the Bobcats and finally the Spurs.
Boris is unlucky with his jersey numbers, in France he is playing with the 13 that is the jersey number of his mother but that's also the number of G. Robinson so he picked the 32 like his idol Magic Johnson, then he picked the number 3 in Phoenix (I believe 32 was Amare's number) and became 3D for triple double but also for Dive, Dish, Defend, came back with 32 with the Bobcats and now his 33. 33 is the number of JSA Bordeaux French region, Boris is share holder in that club.
Boris played professionaly 4 positions: PF, C, SF and PG :lol I believe he never played a single minute as SG but wouldn't bet my head on it.
that's a bit random but had some time to kill

Nope, SF.
Incredibly accurate draft report, tbh: http://www.thedraftreview.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=702
"Offensively Diaw must focus on becoming more aggressive ..." :lol

even if not accurate, that funny to think he was somehow listed PG/SG. Again if not mistaken I don't believe he played a single minute professionnally SG. I would be curious to know how many players have played significant time at 4 positions in pro ball tbh :lol

I don't think he ever played SG either, but I'm sure he could. He certainly played the other 4 positions with success. Only other player I can think of with so much versatility would be Magic.

Actually bb-reference syays he was officially listed as SG during his first two years in the NBA with the Hawks: http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/d/diawbo01.html

Diaw was drafted by Atlanta to pair with Jason Terry. Since Terry is the PG without PG skills, and Diaw is the big guard with PG skills, it was a nice idea. The problem was Diaw never worked out for them. But after a move to Phoenix, Diaw was reborn and actually ended up starting most of a season as their Center. Pretty funny honestly.

Diaw is one of the weirdest players in the league. I can't think of anyone who has a similar game. A huge, fat pass-first point forward who can defend Lebron but hates to shoot the ball.
Smart and versatile player, but really strange.

Boris has been great since he's been here tbh. Would have much rather had Boris on LeBron with Kawhi on Wade in 6 & 7 tbh.
Boris is my nigga tbh. I wouldn't trade him for that scrub David Lee.

I liked Boris since he was with Phoenix. Him and Nash were great players, even though the Spurs/Suns series brought out intense emotions. I love the more confident play we're seeing from Boris.

you got a lot of shit for that one. I never disagreed because I don't care for the groupthink on here, besides I knew Diaw had the goods, he just needs to be in a supportive environment.

If he doesn't attempt to dunk, this guy is a serious offensive threat!
