We are dead.
Germany: They have the most talented players that are athletes as well.
Portugal: Ronaldo... And better at every other position
Ghana: They already took us out. Better athletes.
Ahhh, at least I can take concentrate on all the good games as we won't be present after the group stage.

Chile could be very dangerous
South American teams are a tough matchup for Spain; they stole their win vs Paraguay in 2010, and got obliterated by Brazil in the last Confed Cup
So Spain - Chile should be interesting
South American teams like to play with flair and flamboyance while Spain likes to put teams to sleep with their efficiency in possession. Contrasting styles, and the team that imposes their style on the game (duh) will surely win.

Chile has played spain pretty well in their last few matchups, but Chile has a tendency to crumble under the pressure of a WC with mistakes (in 2010 WC the chile keeper gifted spain a retarded goal for a recent example; IIRC if chile had tied that game they would have finished the group 1st and spain would have played brazil in the R16). Im kind of surprised everyone is announcing spain and holland as automatic favorites to advance, mainly because I think both holland and spain are not quite what they were 4 years ago, but until the WC is closer its difficult to say. But I think those three right now are not very far apart, an injury or a mistake could easily determine who advances. The problem with that group is that whoever is 2nd faces brazil in the R16; in the case of Chile that is almost an automatic loss, brazil just owns them.
i think the groups are pretty lopsided but at least argentina got a really good draw this time, especially looking ahead to quarter finals
also, I think ecuador and ghana have better chances than most here are giving them, in fact I can even see ecuador winning their group if france and switzerland split points between them.

Some interesting groups, Brasil and Argentina got lucky (at least in group stage), groups B and D are though, as is group G, groups E and H are the least interesting, group C will be interesting as it's pretty even, if not high quality.
It's way to early for any doom and gloom or celebration, a lot can still change, players get injured or suddenly get in form... i mean Portugal without Ronaldo doesn't look so though...
My predictions:
Brazil, Cameroon
Spain, Chile
Colombia, Japan
Italy, Uruguay
Switzerland, France
Argentina, Bosnia
Germany, Portugal
Belgium, Russia

Looking a step further. If german comentators are right(and looking at 2010s system they probably are wrong), Germany is playing group H in the first elimination round and A+B+C+D not before the finals.
Thats said, avoiding Brazil, Argentina, Spain, Netherlands and Bosnien for so long doesn't sound bad and when you look at group E+F+G+H Germany and possibly Belgium are the only two powerhouses.

This...
USA has a shot against both Portugal and Ghana...
Portugal barely beat Mexico in 2006 and they had arguably a better team than today... The current US NT squad is also more balanced than that 2006 Mexican team...
Their best bet is to ensure that Germany doesn't run the tally on them because goal difference will be key in this group...

Mono isn't a soccer fan at all otherwise he would've been glad with the draw results imho. Picklebreaths got the easiest group of all it seems like, Belgium got a band of wonderkids but they're inexperienced and unproven in the world cup, and Russians always get screwed in the world cup for some reason, getting eliminated in the qualification stage most times. Group D is gonna be a dogfight imho. I think either England or Italy would get eliminated in the group stage, the game is played in South America so Uruguay has sort of homecourt advantage, so I believe Suarez/Cavani and teammates will survive the group stage at least, and my prediction is England. Italy was the runner up on Euro cup last year, they're in much better form than England I think. Italy got eliminated in the group stage last world cup so I don't expect it to happen twice in a row to them, it's time for them to bounce back a bit imho

Do the tournamnet according to the rankings. For example: number 1 would have: N°32, N° 24 and N°16 on its group.
We know this will never happen mainly because it doesn't take in consideration the difference in the numbers of games teams play in their respective federations. For example, Concacaf teams will have a huge advantage because they have the Gold cup every two years. Consider Japan's rankings right now compared to the USA, it would be pretty darn unfair for a better team with better players to play against superior teams. No offense to CONCACAF teams of course, but they're going to benefit heavily if this ever happens.
The tournament is fine as it is. People should just stop with the conspiracy BS..Consider Brazil's pssobile path to the finals..

Brazil World Cup 2014: Worker dies in stadium fall (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-25383023)
A worker has been killed in Brazil after falling from the roof of a stadium being built in the Amazon region for the 2014 football World Cup.
Marcleudo de Melo Ferreira, 22, died in hospital in Manaus after falling nearly 35m (115ft).
Hours later, another worker died of a heart attack at a nearby site. His family said he was overworked.
The builders' union is discussing whether to strike over working conditions.
Several construction workers have now died at venues connected with the World Cup as Brazil rushes to complete its stadiums on schedule.
Two were killed in an accident on 27 November when a crane fell and destroyed parts of Sao Paulo's Arena Corinthians, which will host the opening game on 12 June.
That accident delayed the stadium's completion date by several months. It is now expected to be ready in mid-April.
'Sunday to Sunday'
Andrade Gutierrez, the company building the Manaus stadium, said Mr Ferreira had been employed by a company subcontracted to construct the stadium's cover.
It said work had been halted until Sunday.
But the death of a second worker, at a convention centre building site, led to new calls by the union to begin a strike from Monday.
The body of Jose Antonio da Silva Nascimento, 49, was found late on Saturday morning at the new building, which will host meetings during the World Cup.
His death may not be connected with the working conditions, but relatives said he was under pressure because the work was behind schedule.
"He worked from Sunday to Sunday," sister-in-law Priscila Soares told O Globo newspaper.
The stadium in the Amazonian jungle city is where the England team will open their 2014 World Cup campaign, playing against Italy.
Brazil has admitted it is struggling to have all 12 venues completed on time. Six venues are ready; the other six have missed this month's deadline set by Fifa - the world's football governing body.
The country's preparations for the World Cup have also been hit by cost overruns and public protests over what is seen as wasted resources.
Last week Fifa's General Secretary Jerome Valcke appealed to Brazilians to support the contest saying it was the "wrong time" to protest.

France is in full euro 16 preparation, objective is not really this World Cup. Good thing is pressure on their shoulders is gonna be low, they may have a solid wc after all. Last two games have been consistent and good. I like this pogba dude and benzema has a lot of confidence lately.

my predictions:
Brazil is winning it all.
2nd tier teams that could be in for a long run:
Portugal, Belgium
Uruguay won't be out of group stages tbh. Only Suarez and Cavani in god mode would make them get to quarters (their ceiling)
Argentina will make the semis...
Germany could be out in the group stages...
Ecuador could reach quarter finals...

It was his choice. There was nothing Brazil could do. That's too bad for him, because he would start over Fred or Jo quite comfortably. I don't blame him because he made his life in Spain, but I don't think it was a smart choice considering the circumstances. Overall, Spanish people (other than Atletico fans) hate him.

Costa chose Spain because Felipao didn't call him regularly and prefered Fred over him. It wasn't until Del Bosque asked Costa to join Spain that the Brazilian DT started to give a fuck about Costa.

Costa chose Spain because he wanted to. He was called in March of 2013 to be part of the Brazilian NT that would play against Italy and Russia and that was before he truly exploded in Spain.
Nobody remember that Costa was playing in Rayo Vallecano on loan in 2012. In the 12/13 season, he played 31 matches and scored only 10 goals. That do not guarantee you a place in any big NT. Still, he was called by Felipao.
The Spanish Federation just started to give a shit about him in September when they asked FIFA a permission to call him. And that's after the start of the 13/14 season, when he finally exploded.
He made a choice and I don't blame him, but that was not Felipao's fault at all. That was simply his choice.

It was Felipao's fault, when Costa was already tearing shit up in Atletico the DT prefered to play Fred over him. He wasn't even called for the Confederation's Cup, of course Costa is going to prefer Spain after that snub and after Del Bosque guaranteed him a place in the World cup. It's a well known fact in Spain that Costa didn't choose Spain over Brazil, he chose Del Bosque over Scolari.

Seems like a weak reason to switch your NT allegiance permanently tbh. Scolari will go but he's on Spanish NT forever. I'd prefer if he just felt closer with Spain than Brazil, rather than switching over spite of a manager.

Sorry, but you don't have things right.
The Federation Cup happened in June of 2013. At the time, Costa was not tearing up at all.
Costa just had finished a normal season with 10 goals in 31 matches in the Spanish League. Not calling him wasn't even a snub. Not even Spain was thinking about calling him.
That's the biggest misconception that people have.People think that Costa has been playing like that for years, when he just had a 1 great season so far.
Costa exploded in the 13/14 season and that was AFTER the Fed Cup. Spain didn't even start to think about Costa until September of 2013.
It's not Felipao's fault at all it's simply Costa's choice. He deals with it and Brazil's NT deal with it. No problem at all. Not the first time it has happened and it won't be the last.

http://www.elconfidencial.com/deportes/futbol/2013-10-29/diego-costa-firma-ante-notario-que-elige-la-roja-y-scolari-le-repudia-publicamente_47443/
http://www.20minutos.es/noticia/1961177/0/diego-costa/seleccion-espanola/eleccion-convocatoria/

http://www.elconfidencial.com/deportes/futbol/2013-10-29/diego-costa-firma-ante-notario-que-elige-la-roja-y-scolari-le-repudia-publicamente_47443/
http://www.20minutos.es/noticia/1961177/0/diego-costa/seleccion-espanola/eleccion-convocatoria/

My thoughts :
They all show the Spanish version of this. The story has 2 sides, two versions. That's not what the Brazilian press says about the whole thing. The real truth we will never know because we will never get it from a neutral side.
When you read the whole thing, It's never a direct quote from Diego Costa saying all those things. It's always an inside info that someone got from his "entorno" or someone else. Typical press stuff.
In my opinion, they're just trying to justify his nationalization blaming Brazil's lack of interest on him. But they never mention that Diego Costa was a nobody when they called him back in 2013 back. When they say that Costa was a reference in Atletico back then when he wasn't , they show how one-sided they are. The numbers that I showed you prove that I don't lie.
If he felt like a "newbie" back in March or felt that he deserved to be a starter with 10 goals in 31 matches, he was delusional. I understand if he felt frustrated about not going to the Federation Cup, but it wasn't a big snub considering his production at the time. That's why I don't blame Scolari. And the result in the Federation Cup shows that Brazil did not miss him at all.
I blame Scolari for Miranda's snub, when he is 10x better than Henrique. I blame him for not calling Coutinho, when he is performing 10x better than Bernard, who isn't even a starter in Ukraine. But in the case of Costa, I really don't see how Costa's choice was his fault. We will have to disagree about it.

I predict Germany throws a draw game with the USA to get the USA on to the next round as a token gesture to the US coach.
Germany with wins against Ghana and Portugal, so a draw in the last game with the US won't matter as Germany will already have the group wrapped up by the time they face the US.
Germany 5 points (wins against Ghana and Portugal and draw with USA)
USA 3 points (win against Portugal, loss with Ghana and draw Germany)
Portugal 2 points (win against Ghana and losses with USA and Germany)
Ghana 2 points (win with USA, loss with Portugal and Germany)
USA caught a break playing Germany last. If they played them first it is an automatic loss to start the tournament.

Both have two points. If I switch Portugal and Ghana results against the USA, the USA beats Ghana and loses to Portugal, Portugal would get 4 points and 2nd place.
How about
Germany- wins against Portugal and Ghana, draw USA- 5 points
USA draw with Portugal. win against Ghana and draw with Germany- 4 points
Portugal draw with USA, win Ghana , loss Germany- 3 points
Ghana - 3 losses- 0 points

The decision of France coach Didier Deschamps to leave Samir "Le Sulk Jr." Nasri out of the team going to Brazil prompted Nasri's girlfriend Anara Atanes to vent her fury through Twitter. She wrote: "******* france and ******* deschamps! What a s*** manager!" And now Deschamps is suing her for defamation with the support of the French Football Federation.
From the Guardian:
The French radio station RMC is reporting that Deschamps and the French football federation have opened legal proceedings against Atanes, who is an English-born singer from the pop group Fanfare.
"FFF condemns insulting remarks against Didier Deschamps and fully supports its coach in his approach," read a statement released on Friday.
"The unanimous feedback confirmed that the entire France condemned such remarks. FFF believes that the unanimous indignation is enough to condemn such behaviour"

This wc is already getting ruined by injuries and everything I hear out of Brazil is worrying to say the least, it just doesn't give me much hope for a good cup. Argentina doesn't look any better than it did in '10 (funny how similar this team is to that one considering all the maradona hate back then, in 4 years we have the exact same weaknesses despite a few changes) but we have a favorable path, that's the only thing that makes me think we can reach semis.

Ghanaian witch doctor claims he caused Cristiano Ronaldo’s knee injury
• Nana Kwaku Bonsam predicted forward would miss World Cup
• ‘This injury can never be cured by any medic’
Ghana’s most influential witch doctor has claimed he is responsible for the knee injury that is threatening Cristiano Ronaldo’s participation at the World Cup.
Nana Kwaku Bonsam – whose name translates literally as “Devil of Wednesday” – predicted in February that the Real Madrid forward would be forced to miss this summer’s tournament in Brazil with injury. A statement from the Portuguese FA on Wednesday confirmed that Ronaldo is suffering from tendinosis in his left knee as well as nursing a muscle problem in his left thigh, which caused him to miss the 0-0 draw with Greece at the weekend.
Ghana are set to meet Portugal in their final match of Group G in Brasilia on 26 June and Bonsam claims to have conjured a special powder from his gods, mixed with several leaves and concoctions which have been placed around an image and caricature of the former Manchester United player.
“I know what Cristiano Ronaldo’s injury is about, I’m working on him,” Bonsam, who serves at the Kofioo Kofi shrine, said in an interview with the Kumasi-based Angel FM.
“I am very serious about it. Last week, I went around looking for four dogs and I got them to be used in manufacturing a special spirit called Kahwiri Kapam.
“I said it four months ago that I will work on Cristiano Ronaldo seriously and rule him out of the World up or at least prevent him from playing against Ghana and the best thing I can do is to keep him out though injury.
“This injury can never be cured by any medic, they can never see what is causing the injury because it is spiritual. Today, it is his knee, tomorrow it is his thigh, next day it is something else.”

You can bet that when the time comes Sabella won't let Mascherano fight all alone against the entire midfield of the other team like Diego did in 2010 against Germany.

At least I have a ready made 'injuries' excuse for when England inevitably finish last in the group behind Costa Rica.

Either way, first round of the knockout stages will be the furthest the team gets.

What butthurt could we posibly hold with one of our little provinces? When you do well, it's like having a little brother with Down's Syndrome graduating from Elementary School.

There is a reason why there are 4 stars in the shield not 2, maybe you should study history of football and FIFA before getting into any sort of argument about he subject.
So now Mexico is a winner because jut like Argentina have won U20 and U17 ships? Good to know the new standards of success at the other side of the river :tu
But once again, congrats in the wc win tbh

Name one country other than Uruguay counting pre-1930 Olympic Gold as a World Cup.
No one? Why? Wouldn't Britain like to have 4 WCs in their resume? Canda and Belgium their only WC?
Uruguay was the only one begging FIFA ":cry Olympics woz Mundial back then :cry". You lot sound like Boca fans counting Milk Cups or Pele who includes in his goals those scored while drinking caipirinhas on the beach.
Btw, it's not about Uruguay:

Still haven't done homework have you? 1924 and 1928 Soccer Olympic tournaments were organized by FIFA with pro players and considered the World Championship... Therefore, 4 time champs...
Again, congrats in your 2014 WC win :tu
