The 32 teams are complete! Here are the pots accdg to lefty:

Pot 1: Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium

Pot 2: Japan, Iran, Korea, USA, Honduras, Costa Rica, Mexico, Australia

Pot 3: Chile, Ecuador, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Algeria, Nigeria, Cameroon, France

Pot 4: England, Italy, Portugal, Bosnia, Croatia, Greece, Russia, Netherlands

Any early predictions? I have Germany winning it all

Best possible group IMO:
Brazil
Japan
France
Italy

Worst possible group:
Switzerland
Costa Rica
Cameroon
England

I'd bet on a Brazil vs Spain final, with Brazil winning.

3th place, Germany.

...with France self destroying again in the group phase.

Germany or Brazil, I think. And I don't see Spain repeating, repeating the WC is tough enough a mission by itself and Spanish football has been going downhill in recent years it seemed like (Barca falling short in the Champions League two years in a row)

I think FIFA intentionally sorts teams of the same continent in the same pot so the chance of same-continent teams being drawn in the same group is minimized imho.

Top 24 Ranked Teams qualified (per FIFA Rankings) - that's insane. This is a tough World Cup, could easily have multiple groups of death.

I'd put Brazil as favorites simply because of their record in Brazil. I definitely think Germany can win it, but they have so much firepower it may be tough to find a starting XI that fits perfectly because Low has to accommodate other egos.

Best possible group for US: Switzerland, US, Algeria, Bosnia.
Worst possible group for US: Anyone else from Pot 1, US, Ghana, Italy.

I'm thinking Argentina to win - of course i never ever predict anything right, so i guess the argies can blame it on me...

Russia and Croatia are the weakest in pot 4, but things can change by the time the cup rolls around. I haven't payed much attention to other qualifications so i have no idea how good the other teams are, hoping for some pleasant surprises...

Switzerland being in pot 1 makes me laugh tbh, is it only because they defeated Spain in 10' South Africa? Columbia is also overrated imho, just a South American version of Sweden- one super striker (Falcao) + scrubs, and I'd put Italy or England in pot 1 in place of them any day, maybe they have to split pot 1 between South America and Europe I'm not sure. Belgium is well justified though, they have a band of wonderkids who've lived up to their potentials (Hazard, Lukaku, Kompany, Defour and many others) and they'll be a serious competitor next year, albeit not a championship contender

So, last WC I took the safe bet and put money on La Roja Furia--which was like picking Alabama to win the BCS Title last year. I haven't been paying much mind to the world's game, so who is favored? Who does the ST masses like? Which African team will make it past the Group Stage? Is this the WC the U.S. makes a run?

Favored? Spain - Germany - Brazil

Tho I think something's missing with Brazil that I can't figure out

Cote d'Ivoire might have a good chance of making it past because they have the best crop of European football players imo

US might get past thr group stage if they get a good draw but they are fucked if they go to a group of death.

No Euro team has ever won a World Cup in America...

1930 - Host: Uruguay - Winner: Uruguay
1950 - Host: Brazil - Winner: Uruguay
1962 - Host: Chile - Winner: Brazil
1970 - Host: Mexico - Winner: Brazil
1978 - Host: Argentina - Winner: Argentina
1986 - Host: Mexico - Winner: Argentina
1994 - Host: USA - Winner: Brazil

That said, Spain was the first Euro team to win outside of Europe (Africa) in 2010. Brazil already did it for America in 2002 (South Korea & Japan), and obviously they've won in Europe before.

Uruguay has 4 WC recognized by fifa and their shield logo in the jerseys because they won the Olympics in 24 and 28 because FIFA was being formed and they organized the olympics were the WC then. So technically, they were the first to win in European soil...

As you point out, this WC is likely staying in South America and I see Brazil or Argentina winning it all tbh

Argie or Uruguay would be next two faves. Doubt a Euro team wins it, tbh

Dark horse would be Mexico. They need to gel and finally live up to their potential, but if they do those things and get a weak group, watch out

I also think European teams will have a hard time adapting. Most of these guys have never played in South America before. they don't know the heat, the humidity, the crowd, the grass and the pitches (bigger than in Europe) but there are so many European teams on the WC than at least one will make it far and maybe win it too.

A year ago, no one would have debated this, shit I would be super excited to see that team play on the world cup.. but that team is long gone, at least I think it is.

In order for me to even consider Mexico a dark horse now, we have to get pretty much all the euros back.. and get a miracle.

The team we saw vs New Zealand is a shitty team, tbh. They gel, but there's no way they can upset an actually good team, I hope we get our actual good players back and a coach that can make them gel and get them ready for the big stage, but I don't think there's enough time for any of that.

Am I the only one that thinks this world cup is going to be ultra competitive compared to the last one or any World cup for that matter. I think FIFA has done a hell of a job of decreasing the gap between nations..Obviously the FA's had a lot to do with it, but FIFA in general has been trying to make the game more and more competitive.

Countries like Japan, South Korea, USA, Australia, are no longer pushovers.....Heck even shitty teams like Iran, Costa Rica, Honduras, are going to be a tough nut to crack..The afircans teams this year are noticeably better squad wise too.

Japan, South Korea, USA were bottom teams 15 years ago and these nations now expect a secound round finish at least..

Humor me. Both! Whom are you rooting for and who is winning it?
Rooting : Algeria ; yeah we're gonna suck, but I would rather go down with them than root for Spain like all those Venzuelians do, or England like some Americans or Canadians.
Little exception : I also root for other African teams during WC's - except Egypt (we just hate each other)

Who is winning it : Well, let's see ....

- Germany : mentalmidgetsmentalmidgetsmentalmidgetsmentalmidge ts .... so, no

- Spain : don't think they are done because they got destroyed by Brazil; it was a good wake up call for them, and Del Bosque is bringing in younger players

- HGH's : they have improved since they got a real coach (lol Diego); sure their D is still shit, but MF is good and offense is stacked; plus, Messi should be well rested for the WC; they could be dangerous

- France : they have quality players at each position; it allcomes down to Deschamp's lineups; when he takes retarded decisions like he did in the 1st leg vs Ukraine (lol starting Giroud and playing Abidal as a CB), France sucks; when he pulls his head out of his ass, they are a super team; if DD doesn't go full retard, they could reach the 1/2 imo.

- Belgium : they staaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaacked !!!!! But lack experience at that level .... not going far imo

- Netherlands : they havee been underachieving for a while; they have added young quality players; it all depends on Robben's health ... he is out for at least 6 months

- Portugal : lol no

- Brazil : pressure time; yeah they won the Confed Cup at home, but we are talking about the WC; can they handle the pressure? they held the WC in 1930, were the favorites, and lost the Final to Uruguay; of course it doesn't mean they will choke at home again; the good news: Scolari is back at the helm and he is a real leader; he is a good coach for them

- England : lol no

- Italy : Prandelli has done a great job with that team; more offensive minded, quality young players like Shawarma, Giovinco, Giacherrini; big question mark: Balotelli's temper; if he doesn't fuck, they are gonna be tough to beat; if he screws up : downfall

- Sweden: Ibra is great, but he won't be en.... Oh, wait

WINNER: it's gonna be either Brazil or Italy IMO
(yeah I know no Euro team has won a WC on South American soil, but there is a 1st time for everything)

BUT : you can never count out the defending Champs Spain, and France and Argentina could be very dangerous

So yeah, to be the best you have to beat the best and so on:

But in all honsty, how would you like your home countries group to look like?

for me its:

Germany
Australia (just love the country and I think we do well against them every time)
Ivory Coast (if we have to play an african team, at least make it my fav african team!)
England (one of the worst teams and GER:ENG battles are always fun)

and whats your biggest nightmare?:

Germany
Costa Rica (advantage regarding weather, near home)
Algeria (blah team, which probably is the thoughest african opponent)
Italy (Germany just can't win against them)

Australia is fodder for most teams but anything can happen on the day, just hope they don't start out like 2010 by getting a shellacking from a world soccer power like Germany. Would be nice if they got a group they could at least get a win and a draw or something.

A lot of people don't realize that teams now are getting better and better. The gap between favorites and "bottom teams" have decreased so much the last 10 years or so. I don't care if the US was in a group with Brazil, Spain, and Germany - we'd still have more of a chance to advance than Mexico.

Seriously though - just a terrible group. My co-worker was laughing his ass off while I was angrily watching the stream at my desk.

I would be srsly pissed if I were you

Is it a coincidence that the best African team gets groups of death?

Cote d'Ivoire in 2006 and 2010, now Ghana

LUIZ FELIPE SCOLARI:

"It is good. England, Italy, Uruguay, that is the toughest group and we are not in this one! We open against a European team, which was my preference. We have the clasico, which will be very tough, in the middle. Then Cameroon. I think it's good for us"

Wow the U.S...Will anyone notice their early demise? Which group is easiest? Group C or H?

E pretty easy. France has been playing like shit, Ecuador and Honduras both suck. Swiss have been playing great but they're like Belgium, can't put stock in a white country with only 7m people.

I don't think C and E are easy groups. You see for me, Easy would mean that two teams are sure shots for the knockout stages, and this is far from the truth with this groups. It probably has the least talent, but group C and H are also the most open groups by far. In group C, anyone can top that group. In group H, anyone can qualify from that group. When I think of easy, I think of group E..Mainly because I think france is heaps better talent wise than the other teams. They are a tier above the other teams..Group A might be Easy as well mainly because Brazil is also a short shot to the round of 16...

Group C is the 2014 World Cup's equal-opportunity group. Any of those teams could make the playoff stage.

However, :lmao :lmao :lmao if France doesn't qualify from Group E.

Chile could be very dangerous

South American teams are a tough matchup for Spain; they stole their win vs Paraguay in 2010, and got obliterated by Brazil in the last Confed Cup

So Spain - Chile should be interesting
