Zoo visitors witnessed the mauling at the Predator Rock section of the Giants of the Savanna exhibit, which contains five lions and two cheetahs.
Teenagers Kelsey Nuezil, 18, and Dylan Parker, 19, told Dallasnews.com (http://www.dallasnews.com/news/local-news/20131117-dallas-zoo-confirms-lion-killed-in-fight.ece) that they saw one of the biggest animals in the enclosure corner the victim, and then a fight ensued.
Parker explained that 'the smaller male lion pinned the female down and held it so it quit moving and they just started ripping it apart.'
The worker started shouting at the animals and threw chunks of meat at the lions in a vain attempt to distract them from their victim.
Dallas Zoo denied that the dead animal had been eaten, but did tweet a confirmation of the attack and subsequent death.

Poor Lioness, I'm sure being a typical fat captive specimen left her without a realistic chance off fending off the larger & more powerfully built male.

Thats one thing that humans should learn from them lions. There's a reason why the lions rule the wild world imho. Just keep the bitch lions who can hunt and breed, and kill the useless ones.

Different story but reminds me of this story I read about..
================================================== ==========
BACKSTORY: Melissa Bachman is a TV host who mostly hosts hunting television programs.
Last week, she posted a picture with a dead male lion (http://www.buzzfeed.com/catesevilla/tv-presenter-melissa-bachman-angers-entire-internet-after-sh) on her Facebook page with the caption:
“An incredible day hunting in South Africa! Stalked inside 60 yards on this beautiful male lion…what a hunt!”

I spent a few days in Botswana last month with lion experts and filmmakers, Beverly and Dereck Joubert.
http://s3-ec.buzzfed.com/static/2013-11/enhanced/webdr02/18/13/enhanced-buzz-17172-1384798752-2.jpg
The two of them have been researching lions for 30 years. They’ve made 25 films for National Geographic and their 26th is called Game of Lions. It’s premiering on Nat Geo Wild as part of Big Cat Week on Dec. 1.
One thing that the Jouberts said to me that really stuck was, “Hunting a lion is the most cowardly thing you can do.”
http://s3-ec.buzzfed.com/static/2013-11/enhanced/webdr03/18/13/enhanced-buzz-11959-1384799342-16.jpg
So when Melissa Bachman posted that picture, I was very unimpressed. Also disgusted.
From spending some time on the safari, I also realized there were a few gaps in her story.
First off, “stalking” lions means you have a guide. That guide takes you out in a big van.
http://s3-ec.buzzfed.com/static/2013-11/enhanced/webdr07/18/12/enhanced-buzz-19092-1384795560-22.jpg
Our guide’s name was James.
You find buffalo.

It’s not always buffalo, but generally the lions stay close to animals they’re hunting.
And BOOM. There’s a lion sitting in the shade. Relaxing.

Now for the lions themselves.
Here were three things I learned:
1. Lions are big cats (duh). They act like them too.
2. They just sleep and sit around all day, like cats.
3. Lions do not give a shit about you. They see you as that big van. They don’t mess with you.
There was one instance when we were out with the lions and they sat next to our truck and used it as shade. They were literally three feet away from us.

That’s me. Sry.
Here a male lion is walking right next to the car I’m in.

Still just sitting there. They aren’t moving.

We actually had to start the engine to startle them a bit so they would walk away from the shade of our truck.
Just to show you how incredibly difficult it is to hunt a lion…here’s a selfie I took next to one.

they need to do away with zoos.
Are you a vegetarian? No, I didn't think so.
So you have no problem with the murdering of animals so you can eat them for dinner every night, but oh no, GOD FORBID humans capture animals for display. Nice politically correct viewpoint.
Tomorrow, when you order your bucket of fried chicken from KFC, and you are devouring your grease filled animals, please think about all of those poor animals at the zoo who are being being locked up :cry
