Tiago makes his PRESENCE felt on the DEFENSIVE end of the court. A lot of you underrate him because he doesn't have the best statistics, but he is one of the best defenders in the NBA.

Please don't gang up on me like you're ganging up on playnando..but in a sense, he is.... He helps put up points, through scoring, passing, the picks, and plays great D minus the blocks. He doesn't have the stats of an elite center, but I gotta say I'll take him over most centers in the NBA.

Lot of hate in this thread. Put me in the TRUTH category. If you look at both offense and defense, and distill this down to the game and impact alone (ignore media, etc.), it's very difficult to make a better argument over Splitter. Hibbert and Howard are the only candidates, all the other names in the thread are pretty laughable.

This is referring to 2013-14 performance, by the way.

That's because Nene almost never plays for brazilian national team. But I agree that Splitter is better right now especially due to the constants injuries of Nene.

If he didn't I will.

I didn't realize Nene was having such a good start but Splitter has been, at the very least, playing at as good or better level. When comparing them using advanced stats

NeNe
P.E.R-19.7
Offensive Rating-118
Defensive Rating-105
Net Rating- +13
True Shooting Percentage-60.7%

Per 36 minutes
Points-17.8
Rebounds-6.5

Splitter
P.E.R-19.2
Offensive Rating-124
Defensive Rating-94
Net Rating- +20
True Shooting Percentage-60%

Per 36 Minutes
Points-12.9
Rebounds-12.1

Throw in that Splitter is couple of years younger, much less injury prone. & drastically cheaper (granted that's irrelevant). Nene has 11 seasons to Splitters 4 but their career number using the aforementioned stats are very similar. With the constant that Splitter is a drastically better team defender and rebounder.

BackHome
11-21-2013, 11:06 PM
Nene two years is better then Splitter but right now I would rather have Splitter on my team. All I can say is that this year Splitter is playing with a passion and playing much better since he is getting more minutes so as a Spurs fan - BE FUCKING HAPPY WITH THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!

cd021
11-21-2013, 11:07 PM
Splitter sucks. Where was he in the finals?

:lol Yeah he totally sucks, just ignore he was a big reason (along with Duncans resurgence) why our defense skyrocketed from 11th to 3rd last season. We wouldn't have even made the finals without him. Of the 8 teams that made the semi's all of them were in the top 8 and of the 4 in the conference finals; Memphis-2nd, Indiana-1st, Miami-7th, San Antonio-3rd.

Miami was a bad matchup. He did have success against GSW & Memphis.

11-21-2013, 11:10 PM
Bogut, the other Lopez, Pekovic, the other Gasol, Gortat. They're all better than Splitter. I wouldn't say Nene's better than Splitter.

I like all of those player quite a bit but other than maybe Bogut (they generally have the same skill set, save Bogut blocks shots and boards better) I'd still take Splitter. Gasol hasn't consistently played Center for some time except for the 10 games this season.

I watched every game Nene played during the 05-06 season. He played the season opener and preceded to miss the next 87 games due to injury:lol. He is one of the more injury prone bigs around. He's appeared in 654 games over his 1st 10 seasons, missing on average about 17 games a year. In total he's missed 166 games. Splitter on the other hand missed 29 games in 3 seasons. Some of which were coaches decision (during his rookie year).

Splitter is playing 9 minutes fewer per game. How exactly am I supposed to compare them head to head without per 36 minutes? He can and has played more minutes last season he averaged 27 mpg during the 58 games he started last season.

vs a team like Golden State they pretty much depended soley on it to win games

After the Cavaliers game and his 11 minutes, fewest for the Spurs, Tiago now leads the NBA in WS/48.
However, because of playing time Tiago is 16th in WS, behind Blake Griffin, ahead of James Harden.

Anthony Davis, on Monday's opponent, is 6th in WS.

Like Diaw, I think getting literally as close as possible to winning a title without actually doing it has motivated Tiago..he's a talented player with a solid NBA body for today's style of play, he just needs to keep playing with a chip on his shoulder, tbh..

Splitter was viewed as a scrub as well when he got here... Couldn't even dunk without falling on his ass or make his FTs...

What Baynes did to Howard in the POs was amazing tbh... We were up 16-4 or something, guess playing with the beasts in the first unit isn't that hard...
