It's early and we've had a cake schedule but our defense has been an improvement early on. At least stat wise
Currently...
We are #3 in the league in opponent ppg at 89.6
We are #5 in the league in opponent fg% at .423
We are #1 in the league in steals with 65 total
and seeing how we rank #19 in the league in scoring (99.1 ppg) a lot of our wins have been attributed to the defense.
Lets hope it continues.

Also # 2 in Def Rating. Very close 2nd btw, behind Indy is @ 94.3 while SA is 94.5
I'd actually like to know where we stand in terms of defending the 3. I know that was a point of emphasis in the summer, I'm curious to see how it's translated thus far.
Edit: Found it ^ Currently ranked 9th, opponents shooting 35.3%, which is nearly identical to last years number of 35.6%. (Finished 14th last year)
Also, 7th in opponent 3PA at 207 (18.1 pg) last year was 17.9.

Got to watch Dejuan Blair backing away from dribblers allowing layups last night against Houston. Glad that kind of defense is a thing of the past.

That's a shock to me... But that 2nd unit, plus Kawhi I guess it really shouldn't be.

Promising statistics. Good to see the focus getting stronger every season!

21st in SOS, but I'm sure that's just an oversight.

Heat are 27th in SOS. Pacers are 29th. Little too early to be talking about "weak schedules"

Little too early to be talking about elite defense especially since the competition has sucked.

Spurs were #3 behind the Pacers and Bulls in defensive efficiency last year. So, I don't see how their #2 ranking right now is a fluke or premature.

They were an elite offensive team last year too. Not sure how you can even compare last year's team to this year's based on 11 games. The Spurs are still looking for a quality win.
Edit: in the early going, I would have to say last year's defense would pretty much destroy this year's in a head to head competition. But then again, it's still early

nah, no other teams are playing any defense, so they outscore Spurs' games rather than Spurs defense being really good.

They have the 2nd best SRS in the league after Miami and trounced nearly everyone they've played besides the Blazers. At this point, most teams are looking for a quality win. Spurs haven't been tested but they've beaten all the teams they're supposed to beat.

How the hell can you make that comparison after eleven fucking games. Seriously, the sample size is too small right now.

Trounced nearly everyone? You mean like they trounced the LAL? Or Denver? Or the Curry-less Warriors? Or the Suns minus Dragic? Or the hapless Jazz?

How the hell can I make the comparison after 11 games? If someone's going to use last year's defense as a reference point, then it's fair game. Duncan is still the heart & soul of the defense and thus far, he's been underwhelming on both ends of the floor. That reason alone is enough to take last year's defense over this year's. Why start a thread 11 games into the season to talk about how good the defense is when they've only played 3 teams ranked in the top 15 in offensive efficiency ( for which they're a pedestrian 2-1 in those games for those keeping score at home) ? I'm all for giving credit where credit is due but talk to me when they go into Oklahoma City and hold the Thunder to 89 points on 40% shooting.
Yeah, they're beating the teams they're suppose to beat so it shouldn't come as a complete shock that they're 10-1 at this point.
