This is one of the best articles that ESPN has ever written. Even the liberal media is starting to see the light and move past the politically correct agenda.

There is just too much money involved for teams to be wasting their time on quarterbacks who specialize in Monkeyballism.

I'm mean sure if all the team is trying to do is get media attention, make the top 10 sportscenter plays of the week, make Jesse and Al proud, etc. then by all means keep on monkeyballling.... But you if you want to actually get serious and try and win then you have to put silly gimmick QB's like that away.

That's why they need QB's that can stay in the pocket and run when they need to. That's the true formula. Russell Wilson, Cam Newton, etc.

Cam's not that good of a pocket passer. The Panthers don't have a strong passing attack overall and are carried by the defense throughout the season.

Solid post. The Panthers are currently ranked 26th in the NFL in total offense and 30th in passing offense. It's hard to argue with the facts, but I'm sure No LYF3 Scrub will because he has taken blind homerism instead of logic to a whole new level since the Panthers started having success.

I'd like to see someone find the amount of first downs he gets with his legs as opposed to with his arm.

Definitely a good article, and non-racist football fans regardless of color know this is a major issue. It's hard to see it really changing, though. Spread systems continue to dominate the college game. I can't see the schools who are successful with running quarterbacks doing anything differently. There's just no point in teaching athletic QBs to read defenses when monkeyball works just as well.

Carolina is 22nd in the league in total passing first downs and 2nd in the league in total rushing first downs, tbh.... they're 29th in passing first down percentage and 4th in rushing first down percentage.... 21st in passing first downs per game and 3rd in rushing first downs per game....

Cum's individual first down percentage when throwing on 3rd down is worse than Kellen Clemens', Josh McCown's and Ryan Fitzpatrick's :lmao

Boiled down::: Cum is a game manager who can't be trusted to get it done on third down with his arm :lol

They've always been good on the road. It's just their almost unbeatable at home. That's the big difference.

Son don't bring the Saints into your ridiculous claim about Cam.

It's not homerism. The Saints have been the 4th best road team in the NFL over the last three years (and even better than that if you want to go back 5, 6, or 8 years. Do I need to link you to the post with the statistical facts?

The Saints are a very good road team. They barely lost to the NE Patriots in Brady Stadium and beat the resurgent Cards in the desert. They can easily go into Seattle and take home a win or Charlotte and smash on Monkeyball Cam Laude, too.

Nearly all NFL teams are better at home than on the road. Pretty much every team in every sport plays better at home than they do on the road. The Patriots are just crazy good on the road (18-6 in last 3 years).

If you look at New England's schedule over those three years, the road games have for the most part been gimme games. I don't think they're that good on the road (2-3 this year), the schedule has just been a joke for years because of how weak the AFC and the AFC East in particular is.

And as you said, New England is still better at home. I think that they have 2 regular season home losses total in 2009-2012 and this year. As Gemini said, being a flukey 1 minute drive away from beating New England @ Foxboro is impressive.

I don't know why fans of teams with game managers at QB take such offense to the label, tbh:lol..

It seems like the only fanbases of good teams that accept having a game managing QB is Kansas City's, maybe Cinci's and I guess 49ers fans have come to terms with Kaepernick being a game manager..

The new breed of game managing stars(Wilson, Newton) reminds me of the NBA's new breed of big men as star role players(Roy Hibbert, Noah, Chandler, etc)..

I miss Game-Manager Flacco. He's been so unable to carry the offense this year that Ravens fans want the team to spend another $120 Million to make him a game manager again.

hows the monroe trade working out?

hows the monroe trade working out?

Decently. He had a string of good games snapped by Peppers taking his cookie two weeks ago. He looks like a keeper, but I think he's about to get overpaid. He's not elite, but all the talk I've heard suggests that he's looking at that type of money. The Ravens are in the bad position of not being able to afford to keep him while also not being able to afford to let him go.

They aren't really saying that monkeyballing works, they're complaining about the writer having some facts wrong and putting political bs into the article.

ESPN columnist Gregg Easterbrook has been calling the team the "Potomac Drainage Basin Indigenous Persons" for years and has recently started adding asterisks to the name rather than spell it out correctly.
