View Full Version : Trade possibility for Nets SG Joe Johnson? We need another scorer ASAP...

I knew from the beginning that OKC was gonna win tonight. Tony Parker cannot continue to be our butter and egg man down the stretch. We saw it last year in the finals where he got completely out and two years ago against OKC in the WCF. We desperately need another isolation player who has size and can get his own shot and break traps. I've heard from sources (who have knowledge of the fiasco going on in Brooklyn) that they are trying to move Joe Johnson and his massive contract.

Spurs Receive:
Joe Johnson
Reggie Evans

Nets Receive:
Rights to Ryan Richards
Rights to Deshaun Thomas
Rights to Livio (French prospect)
Cory Joseph
2014 First Round Pick

Nets sheds over 18+ million dollars in contract and load up on draft picks and prospect. SA gets a reliable scorer and another rebounder down low.

CROFL $70 million over the next 3 years for that piece of shit. Almost as bad as $79 million for Bryant over the next 3.

I forgot to mention the $10 million dollar in cash considerations (the Spurs would send the Nets) to make the trade work (which you can't do on the trade machine)

I said it before the season and I'll say it again... Arron Afflalo could be a nice pickup for a contender willing to part with a 1st round pick. We could easily look at getting him for the expiring of Bonner and DeColo if we chip in our 1st rounder.

Nah, we have enough SG's and he needs touches to get his points.. What we need is an actual stretch player or an athletic big to help anchor our second team.

$70 million for 3 years left on his contract. Got to take a pass on that.

lol another shitty post. NO fucking way do I want Joe Johnson for that amount of money. I'd take him at 5 million per season, anything more than that then I am not interested. NOT INTERESTED AT ALL for that amount on money.

For the first time though, I will agree with one thing you said - I don't think TP can be a consistent closer. He's just too small and can't impose his will on the game. Certain teams can shut him down.

I wanted the Spurs to get Maggette or someone similar that can draw fouls. I still think drawing fouls on the road in tough, tough games is huge. This team has NO ONE that can get to the line consistently. I don't know if you are going to beat the best teams consistently with just a pure ball movement offense. You're going to need to draw fouls and also have someone that can score in isolation.

this guy is getting paid nearly as much as kobe's new contract per year for the next three years. fuck no

A lot of it has to do with "superstar" treatment.. Too many whistles get blown for the NBA poster boys.. I recall in 2007 when all Parker had to do was touch the paint and he'd get a call if he didn't score.

This is entire season is basically fool's gold. The reality is that 90% of teams suck, and we are gonna blow them out. The key is to build for the playoffs when you're in a 7 game series against the likes of Indiana, Miami, Portland, and OKC.

I honestly cringe whenever we win on the back of Tony Parker because I know it's not sustainable. Miami and OKC will key on him, and we simply have nothing else to fall back on. Tiago and Duncan have been suspect. I wish we threw some money at Monta Ellis or maybe an OJ Mayo... someone that can just put his head down and get some buckets.

I would have taken Monte (for that right price that is), maybe Mayo too.

This ball movement offense, don't know if can work consistently against the best teams. If it's not working, then the offense dries up and we don't have super consistent 1 on 1 player.

Easy to say no. Not as easy to think of anyone better available at that price.

Currently averaging nearly 22ppg. They'd want a nice prospect and a pick in the 15-20 range. We really don't have either. Cap space isn't a major issue for them so using expiring contracts isn't as big of a deal unless the contract is decent. Our pick is likely gonna be 27-30th.

Even though your trade proposal is both not feasible and would be foolish even if it were, your sentiment is not wrong. This team desperately needs someone else who can get their own against the Thunder/Heat and I'd argue the Thunder even more than the Heat. Because if Duncan can at least somewhat regain his form from last season, he can punish the Heat bigs, but he's always had trouble with the Thunder bigs.

There are CBA rules for trades.

To absorb Joe Johnson contract, Spurs will need to send out more than $16.4M in salary.

Future draft picks and right to overseas players count for $0 in outgoing salary.
Teams can't send more than $3.2M in cash and it counts for $0 in outgoing salary.

In the OP's trade, Spurs are just sending away $1.1M in salary that is far from the required $16.4M for Johnson only. And I'm not even counting Evans...

every time there is a thread about any player ever, everyone just says how much they suck. according to this board everyone in the NBA is Garbage. This may be the most predictable place on the internet.

mute, you need to SHUT THE FUCK UP about trades until you study the CBA for about 1000 hours.

could ST please, for the first time in history, ban this poster from starting threads, b/c of total incompetence? I know, at first glance this seems paradoxical, considering ST meanwhile has buried the quality bar six feet under. still, Forrest Mute makes Spursreport look like an exclusive club of basketball geniuses just by not releasing threads like this.

Did okay against Memphis but Athleticism + length is the problem. Miami, OKC, and Indiana.

when has joe johnson ever been someone to depend on for scoring? he gets paid $20 millin a year and doesn't want the pressure on his back. by far it's one of the worst contracts of all time next to juwon howard's with the bullets..

2) There are CBA rules.
