View Full Version : How will the canceled game affect seeding?

I was just wondering how will the canceled game affect seeding? If I'm not mistaken, a Boston game last year was canceled (and never replayed) because of the tragedies that occurred during the Marathon and the aftermath a few days later (where people were locked in their houses, as the entire nation stood still).

That's a game (in the win column) that we could potentially have. It might come down to 1 game to decide home court.

It won't.

Hm, you're right about Boston; they finished last season with a 41-40 record. It didn't matter for them because they were 3 games behind 6th place and 3 games ahead of 8th place, but in a tightly contested West, one game could make a difference.

However, are they not planning to reschedule this game?

They will play a make-up game so both teams will play all 82 games this season.

The game between the San Antonio Spurs and Minnesota Timberwolves was postponed Wednesday night because of smoky conditions inside the Mexico City arena.

The matchup will be made up in Minnesota at a later date.

Will be played tomorrow, but if that game is never played of course could be a problem in the tight west conference.
This are the 2010 standings, the year we loose against phoenix in the second round.

So yeah, every game counts in the west

It will be played at a later date, but our chances in Mexico City would have been better. Now it really will be an away game and the Spurs struggled recent years in Minni ...

Actually the outcome of that game wasn't going to affect the playoff seeding of the teams involved, so both teams agreed not to reschedule it. Otherwise the NBA would clearly have found a date, as they will for the one that was cancelled in Mexico.

Just read that it'll be in Minny at some point. Good for them. It's bullshit to have to give up home games, but yes, would have been much easier for us to win in Mexico City.

Not just bullshit to give up home games, but bullshit to give up what would have been the Spurs only appearance in Minny all year.

Pop would have been fined by Stern because the NBA hadn't scheduled any games in Minnesota, therefore depriving the fans there from seeing the big 3.

You think the NBA would find a pocket where both teams have two nights off to schedule it, where the night doesn't push either team into a b2b2b.

We have a window during the end of February after the ASG where we have SSMT off (four days), but Wolves already play S, S, T so that's out.

My best guess would be either Monday 3/17 or Tuesday 3/18; both teams play Sunday at home and travel Wednesday. Given the travel, likely will be 3/17 if I had to venture a guess.

Game won't be made up if both teams can't find a suitable date before the end of the season AND both teams aren't in playoff contention.

It was clearly unfair to the Wolves having a home game in Mexico. They are only slightly farther than the Raptors. Doubt seriously if you'd see much T-Wolves bling down there.

it won't affect seeding.

but it will affect the standing of mexico in the world. they can't even fucking get a fucking regular season basketball game right.

what an utter embarrassment.

Good, hopefully that means the NBA never expands there. Tbh, The Raptors needs to relocate out of Canada. And change their name.

Why shouldn't Minn want to reschedule it? They would be having a home game against the Spurs which would be a solid attendance game.

It should have been a home game for the Spurs in Mexico since SA is closer to Mexico.

I was talking about the Boston game. Obviously the Spurs vs Minny game will be rescheduled.

If any of you had taken the time to look at the schedules, you would have found April 7 or 8 can be used to reschedule the game. It is late enough in the season to know if it will effect the standings and seeding.
