During a segment on TNT post game, he talked about the state of the game now and when people see the Spurs play they go (paraphrasing) "eww what are they doing, how can they play like that...it's because they play in a system and get players that work in that system"
Seemed very genuine and respectful of how the Spurs play the game.

Monkeyball is so prevalent in the NBA today tbh. Luckily more sophisticated European players are now coming over and changing the way the game is played and turning it into more of an intelligent, civilized game.

Great player, but not in most people's top 10 players of all time lists.
Here's mine:
1. Jordan
2. Kareem
3. Magic
4. Bird
5. Wilt
6. Shaq
7. Duncan
8. Hakeem
9. Kobe
10. Russell

I'd put O above Kobe. Did Kobe ever average a triple double for a season? O did it FIVE TIMES. He also averaged 30ppg six times. Kobe's done it three times.

Averaging a triple double for 5 seasons means absolutely nothing when it doesn't result in championships. Oscar was the original stat padder.

We've all seen what Kobe has done without a HOF big. It isn't pretty. Once O got one in the person of Kareem, he ringed.

I'm not defending Kirby, I don't think Kirby is even top 10 all-time at this point, but averaging triple doubles in a weak era for guards doesn't really mean much, especially when the only ring he did win was thanks to Kareem(Robertson was out of his prime by then).
Seriously, what makes him better than Lebron,Wade,Dirk,KG,West?

the nba can be summed up like this today..
6'10"-7 foot shooting guards: (dirk and durant. i don't give a damn what position they play, they are shooting guards)
point guards that don't pass and either lead their team in scoring or try to lead their team in scoring : too many to name, but westbrook comes to mind
7 footers that can't and don't block shots: dirk
power forwards that can't rebound: too many to name
big men that shoot the 3 pointer and don't/won't post up: too many to name.
it's crazy how the game has changed. the spurs are a throwback team. granted that diaw and sorry azz bonner shoots 3's, but bonner is a decoy and diaw does go to the paint sometimes. neither are franchise players. parker for a while was falling under the westbrook category and at times he can be on dat SG bullshit.

how do u figure it was a weak era for guards? with 10 teams in the nba don't u feel it was a bit harder to make it to the league than it would with 30 teams? too many teams in a league waters a league down. the league should have stopped at the last franchises of minnesota, charlotte(hornets), orlando and miami. granted the grizz and raptors have done good things in their existence while the bobcats have made the playoffs just 1 year, but 30 teams is just too much. i feel that 5 of the teams in the leage right now need to go away. and take about 75 players with them. that would increase competition. because you have teams in the leauge with guaranteed wins against the bobcats, raptors, and others..

Counter intuitive. Having fewer teams means almost NO scrubs in the league. In addition, most teams played like 7 guys. That would mean that you're going against a starter quality guard every minute of ever game.

Which exactly proves my point...Who cares about regular season wins? I'm talking RINGS. If he was that dominant, he would have beaten the Celtics at least once in his prime, he did have Jerry Lucas, who was another great guard in that era.
There were bad teams during that era, you look at his opposition, he faces a bunch of unknown guards, starting PGs were averaging 4-5 assists a game. You say there were only 10 teams and you had to face tough opponents and what not, well how many other great PGs do you remember from the 60s? I'll wait.
He faced 20-win teams 30-40 times a season, the guard positions weren't stacked and more often than none he had easy games. He was bigger than the opposing PGs and was much more athletic and had a more refined game than his peers, the only other great PG from that era would be West.
That is why I can't rank him higher, he put up some godly numbers, but who did he put them up against? Imagine if Lebron faced the Bobcats 10 times a season, don't you think his stats would be much higher as well?
There were 10 teams total, out of the 10 only 5 of them had above .500 records, you had 4 teams that didn't even win 35 games. The league was just that much weaker back then, when it came to guards. Forwards/Centers dominated that era.

:lmao Almost no scrubs, yet you played the worst team in your conference 10 times a season. How does that not inflate the numbers? West and Oscar were the best guards of that era. You had about 5 teams over .500,maybe 2 of them were serious contenders, and the rest of them were average/scrub teams.
How many PGs do you know of that era off the top of your head? How many great defenses were there, not including the Celtics?

well the celtics were beating everyone. including wilt's team. doesn't hurt u have bill russell surrounded by hall of famers. red auerbach had an eye for talent and would always find ways to stack his teams. this was relevant from the 60s thru the 80s. the celtics won the title in 86 and from a deal they made got the best player in the draft with the 2nd pick(still to this day, noone knows why cleveland didn't pick bias #1). so if cousy or sam jones were with the royals, how many titles do they win? i'll wait for u to convince me they even win 1...

and to answer your question, i don't know too much about the 60s era of bball, i only know what i read and what i talk to people that were actually there about it. i talk about basketball with guys that played back then either college, high school, or were just fans of the sport on the regular. these guys are my mom's age or a decade or 2 above her. now i'm not old, but i'm not a youngster either. these are people that saw the big o play in college and followed him thruout his career when they could see games(obviously there was no league pass back then). but it's common knowledge, too many teams in a sport waters down the league. the first year in 95-96 those 2 expansion teams were added in the nba, the bulls won 72 games. is that a coincidence? then other teams were getting worse. but i have this conversation with teens and 20 year olds on the regular about how the nba players today are better than the 80s(now this is MY era that i actually watched). someone will google a player they never heard of and say something like, "who is mark aguire? no way would he put up those points in today's nba". and i have to explain to him who he was and how he had to calm down and accept a lesser role to get a ring when he was traded. they don't know bernard king(though now they do thanks to espn giving him love lately). they don't remember sidney moncrief's defense unless they are playing nba2k legend teams.. the point i'm trying to make is that the nba, like boxing, is not what it used to be in terms of skill. they've changed so many rules to make players unguardable so it's impossible to stop them. just like colege basketball. u can't use your hands at all. so when a player is posting you're up, if you're not 7 foot tall, you're fucked.. boxing's the same way. each division has 4 major belts now(i still don't count the wbo as a real belt) so fighters can jump around to weight classes and pick the weakest champion, beat him and call themselve a multi divisional champ. i like floyd mayweather, but there is no way in hell he jumps up to 154 and fights mike mccallum in the 80s. that shit would have never happened..

i still don't understand how kobe is in anyone's top 10 list. was a sidekick for 3 titles, lost a 28 point lead and blown out in 2008, beat a nothing ass team during 09 when they played the magic thanks to dumb ass coaching by van gundy(benching the guards that got him there to play nelson and having reddick guard kobe in game 5), and shot like ass in 2010 while gasol was jerked out of an mvp finals trophy. i swear people believe anything that espy tells them without analyzing anything.

If it were so easy to average a triple double back then why didn't somebody else do it? Robertson did it 'cause he was far ahead of his time and those kind of player deserve respect and according to his numbers Robertson deserves top 10 player of all-time respect.

not sure he breaks the top 15 if not for being a media darling, tbh...
- Holds all time NBA record for most missed shots
- Missed the playoffs in his prime
- Posted a negative record (125-121) while he wasn't riding coattails of a dominant big man (Shaq/Pau)
- Single-handedly cost his team a championship in '04, chucking away at 38% (17% from 3pt land), while having a dominant teammate scoring at 63% clip
- Never made teammates better
- Never averaged .500 or better shooting in a season (IOW, he's a volume shooter, unlike Magic, MJ, Lebron, etc)
on the plus side, he did block Lebron on the All Star game last season, so there's that...

i'm glad at least someone agrees with me that he's not as good as the media wants us to believe he is. he can without a doubt score, but what helse does he do? he's made the all defensive 1st team so many times and i don't understand why or how?while duncan missed it a couple years ago.. who picks these lists? and i din't forget 2004. we were cheated in game 5 against the lakers(derek fisher in .4 seconds caught the ball, turned around, AND faded away) so i was happy the pistons tore their ass up. but kobe shot them out while his fans(not REAL laker fans) will deny it to this day. any laker fan pre-kobe will tell u he shot them out, but i aint complaining. i was happy he did..
