It won't even be a full season before Seattle is looking to unload that albatross. It won't be long before Roc Nation Sports fails as miserably as Master P's agency.

When you get more people there for a Sounders game in the summer as opposed to a Mariners game, you can see the desperation move. It's a terrible move but someone was going to overpay for him. There are no winners besides Cano's kids...

:lol I thought of all teams, the Mariners wouldn't be the one to make this retarded move after witnessing LA with Hamilton/Pujols and the Rangers with A-rod a decade ago

You would think--but then again they are desperate to build something up there...its been almost 2 decades since the heyday of Johnson and Griffey...

Master P was never able to sucker a team out of $240 million - he actually gave back his client's money to the teams :lol

I understand they are desperate to drum up excitement and ticket sales, but this move still makes no sense. You don't spend that type of money on a player except under two scenarios: 1) that player is the type of iconic and legendary player that will not only make your team better but will instantly globalize your brand in terms of ratings and merchandise sales, like a LeBron James type player, or 2) that player added to the roster instantly makes you a legitimate World Series contender. Neither is the case with Cano. As with many Latin American players, even the very best of them still have a hard time translating to marketing dollars. Not even guys like Albert Pujols or King Felix really did (to my knowledge anyway). No way is Cano that guy unless Jay-Z wants to make him one of the primary ad male models for Rocawear in the off seasons... And the Mariners offense simply isn't good enough for Cano to be that one piece to put them over the top. I believe Kyle Seager was their best hitter last year. They probably lose Kendry Morales to free agency. Cano is being placed in a line-up whose core players are Seager, Justin Smoak, and Jesus Montero. And now they probably move young promising 2b Nick Franklin over to SS where I believe he's viewed as below average defensively.

My guess is that Cano will prove to be more of a 18-20 HR hitter in Seattle than the 25-30 HR hitter he was playing 81 home games in Yankee Stadium and another 27 at AL East launching pads like Fenway, Rogers Centre, and Cambden (especially for lefty hitters).

It's astonishing that there are still GMs and teams willing to dole out this type of cash after it's pretty much been proven they never work out. If any team, I'd imagine it would have been the Dodgers to do it.

It's astonishing.

Sign Granderson for 5/70, keep Franklin at 2B, and trade an OF and Walker for Price, using the 170 million you saved by not signing Cano to extend Price long term, then draft impact bats this year and built a team around pitching, contact hitters and speed.

Stupid...

lol, mind blowingly shitty contract. If this move by the Mariners looks this stupid now, just wait 4 years when he's completely over the hill and has 6 years at 24 million a year left on his deal.
