I know we say it every year, but I think Matt Bonner will finally get traded this season.

What is your opinion?

Bro, post this in the trade thread. In before the lock. Sigh.

Thomas' ability to stick as a rotation player in the NBA is still completely unproven.

I think Malcolm Thomas is just a backup to Leonard. He's probably not gonna play much this year, tbh unless the Spurs don't acquire a better backup 3.

I see Matt Bonner being used in a trade to get that backup 3, but I don't think Thomas replaces him in the rotation.

There's been like 3-4 this week that have been locked. All of them were trade threads, I don't really care but why hasn't this one been locked? Is it because it was started by a bolded member?

Hopefully we see Thomas play soon. I think he has the skill set that could grow into a solid rotational player in the spurs system

Has nothing to do with this thread, tbh. There is a trade thread for trade thoughts and rumors.

Spurs have always look at bigmen able to shoot 3's. In the recent years there has been: Austin Croshere, Anthony Tolliver, Marcus Haislip, Steve Novak, Bobby Simmons and Boris Diaw. Bigmen able to shoot 3's help the offense.

Now, regarding Bonner, you had to notice how little he is playing this year. He has played 187 minutes while Ayres is at 269 minutes and Diaw at 490 minutes. I'm not sure exactly what are the reason(s) behind that but it's noteworthy.

Bonner logged quite a few DNP's last year too but he got minutes against the Lakers and Grizzlies in the playoffs :lol

But on a serious note, if there was ever a realistic time to unload Matty since he signed his deal, its now. Trading an expiring at the trade deadline is something that happens pretty much every year, and we can take advantage of that. The Spurs were trying to move Bonner in the offseason though (I would assume) since they were involved in trade talks for AK47 and I believe they asked about Ariza as well. Bonner's contract would have been easy to move to make those deals work, so I could only assume he was in those talks. A 3.9 million expiring deal is certainly something a lot of teams could use.

Besides, we don't even know how Thomas is going to pan, not that he would exactly have big shoes to fill.

This isn't a trade idea (oh oh let's trade Nando, Bonner and ten Euro prospects for Kyle Lowry!) but a valid question as to why the team filled the 15th roster spot and if it could lead to another domino falling. I for one have no idea where Thomas fits in

Exactly! it's a question I was asking.

I should of put that something seems interesting that the Spurs get a stretch four, and Bonner's minutes keeps going down...

Good responses everyone :toast

besides the PlayBonner troll, and Robdiaz.

Keep the thread going!

Dude's 3m salary is some nice trading asset to work with, while the other players are either indispensable (Tim/Manu/TP) or too cheap (Kawhi). Pack him with Danny green and trade them for a hardcore defensive big like Reggie Evans, that's exactly what I would do if I were pop tbh.

Bonner's 3pt shooting versus M. Thomas is a little bit like comparing a souped up mustang to a a McClaren F1. Something that has been recently added and is of dubious certainty and long term value versus something that has led the highest rank competition in the world.

We just recently got rid of one ball grabber (RJ), we don't need another. Besides, Reggie Evans fucking blows, he's only good at rebounding. And pinching scrotum

I think he is destined for the Spurs FO, IMHO.

I'm sure Pop/Spurs will offer him some kind of job after his playing career either in the FO or the coaching staff. However, it doesn't mean that he will end his playing career with Spurs. Sean Marks or Ime Udoka played elsewhere before coming back to Spurs when they were done on the court.

Like other guys said here, the team need to have a perimeter shooting big. If we don't have a big who can knock down shots, teams can much more easily double Duncan. There is the only one reason why Bonner stays.
I think the injuries will give Malcolm the opportunity to earn minutes, but I don't see Pop expanding the rotation to include another PF with Diaw, Ayres and Bonner ahead of him. :(
