And Pop never needed to make any moves regarding Shaq, since Duncan equalized him. The Spurs are the only team from that era who Shaq didn't average 30 and 15 against.

And there's no downgrading Kobe by comparing him to early 00s T-Mac and Carter. Those two were supposed to be the next big thing, and they never fulfilled. This is why Kobe gets compared to Duncan, because there is no elite perimeter player from that era who won rings. Duncan vs. Shaq makes a hell of a lot more sense. Kobe has no perimeter rival. One on one, there was no one that could deal with Shaq. Pop could have taken a page out PJ's book. PJ's Bulls didn't have anyone that could handle Ewing by themselves either. What they did have was a collection of bigs that could strategically foul him to keep him relatively in check. Cartwright, Ho Grant, Wennington, Longley, King, Oakley (later traded), Dele, Rodman, etc. Like Shaq, Ewing would get his, then MJ/Pip would dominate their counterparts.
