Spurs are still better than this team, Just didn't bring it tonight. We're not better than OKC or Portland, however, and that's the real problem.

Pop's gotto keep it simple based on the longer picture. Get Kawhi to be involved more.. have a decisive big man rotation...and use Patty as the main backup to Parker.
Yeah I'd like to see Kawhi get some more minutes and plays too. If Pop is gonna play Ayres a ton and have nonsensical rotations early in the season, may as well give Leonard more opportunities.

we had this game early and once again our coach screwed us. i hope he did this to give the clippers a false sense of hope in that this is who we really are and in the playoffs just throw everything at them and destroy them. i only hope that was the reason for throwing this game.

I'm not surprised we're not beating good teams when our first option isn't showing up half the time. Parker's supposed to be our best player and he's looked worse than he did in 2012 and 2013. Scoring/Passing/Defense all down compared to last year. He's looked tired or disinterested most of the season. Probably should have taken the summer off instead of playing for France. Our two best players last year were TP and TD and both are worse this year. Duncan's decline is expected for his age but TP doesn't really have an excuse seeing as he's 31 years old. He looks fatigued.

Well blame that stupid summer play after a deep playoff run. I hate when the players do that personally.
Our guys were just tired, plus TP was injured. he would have taken over the fourth. Plus crap lineups that won't see the light of day in the playoffs.
I can't believe Spurs fans of all people are worried about regular season wins/losses to xyz teams. I just want HCA, and if takes beating up on reg teams to get it, then that's fine with me.
The Clippers got after it on the defensive perimeter. They stymied the movement on the perimeter tonight which rendered the Spurs to run some secondary motion offensive sets mixed with some additional perimeter screening plays that were unsuccessful for a plethora of reasons. Ever since the Clips got CP3 years ago I've noticed they play aggressive perimeter defense in regular season games, well against the Spurs that is. Having Ayres out on the court is an obvious CIA pop move, tbh. There is absolutely no fucking reason to have a clueless player of his magnitude out on the court.
Danny Green is a very streaky player. We got to remember what kind of a player he is and what expectations we should have about him. Fans expect him to go apeshit like in the finals but it isn't going to happen. You gotta live with his inconsistency imo. He'll pick it up in one of these games and have a good shooting performance.

But that essentially means it's a roll of the dice with him and is that what an aging team can afford to do again? I mean, he can defend the shit out of Curry but still. Would he be starting material on any other team in the league?

I've been saying this for years. FIBA basketball has no value. It's a niche sports tournament catering to a minority audience that's more interested in soccer anyway. FIBA makes money off NBA players while paying them nothing. NBA teams don't benefit and the players come back to their teams injured or tired. It's especially harmful for the Spurs since our team is comprised of mostly internationals. International basketball can fuck off and die already.

Whoa. I've been waiting for Marco to show up against good teams before I get excited like some of the other posters here were about him.
Neal could have done better than that. Marco hasn't really done jack against the top teams. I'm talking shooting only. I know Marco is better in other areas, but this team doesn't have any creators apart from Tony and Manu, so that means the shooters have to make shots if were are going to go anywhere. Even though Neal sucked in most areas, he could make shots. You can't even expect that from some of the other 1 dimensional players on this team.
Neal could shoot in any game. Whether it was game 1 of the season or game 5 of the playoffs. The guy shot with the same confidence no matter what game it was. I just don't trust some of the guys on the team to do that right now. They're going to have to show they can do it and earn that trust.
Spurs really should have went after another creator. We've got too many 1 dimensional shooters and none of them can create for themselves. We're back to Manu and Tony as the only real creators on this team. Fucking crazy.

7 millions fans actually, and it was aired the same time as the biggest football match of the year, basketball is the most popular team sport in Europe after football. Pop know that he win more than he lose by letting his players play with their NT. By the way, without his NT Parker would have never been the player he is now. I am still angry with Neal and his defensive fuckups, he really did suck on that end of the court. I still want to hit him for leaving a shoeless Mike Miller wide open and also giving up that three to Chalmers at the end of the 3rd quarter, but still, the guy isn't a pussy when it comes to shooting. People here keep trashing him and I don't think they realize that it's not easy to find shooters like Neal. I don't want guys that can only shoot against the bad teams in the regular season. I don't care if you miss, but you GOTTA shoot the ball with confidence. The Spurs didn't really get anyone significantly better than him, so I don't think they should have let him go, especially if they were going to sign a scrub like Ayres with that money.
I am just trying to emphasize that the shooters on the team MUST shoot with confidence and make their shots. This team can't go anywhere if that doesn't happen. A lot of them seem like they are scared to shoot when the pressure is higher against the best teams in the league, or they simply don't shoot with the same confidence when we play the good teams and they are putting more pressure on you. You can't shrivel up and disappear. It puts too much pressure on Tim, Tony, Manu. These young guys need to step the fuck up and stop letting the older guys carry their asses. Kawhi, Danny - I am looking at you.
I have no idea why the Spurs didn't try and sign at least one more creator in the off season. We're back to Manu and Tony as the only two players on the team that can create for themselves.

Yeah, no one on SpursTalk rips about Neal's shooting ability - it's more about his defensive capabilities. He really did seem lost a lot of the time, but he was a pure shooter with balls and guts.

Yet he cost or nearly cost games with his freethrow shooting. I've never seen such a great shooter miss so many clutch freethrows.

Yep. Another hater. I don't recall Neal costing us many games with his freethrow shooting. I do recall him missing a few, which is surprising considering his outside shooting, but I don't recall the Spurs losing games directly related to his free throw shooting.
And hey, at least he could get to the free throw line, unlike most of the other 1 dimensional shooters that are on the team now.

That kind of irks me too. I mean what in the hell is that? Almost makes me believe that there was more to the story than what we heard last year.

Splitter being out really hurts us. He's really important for us esp defensively. Parker and I've no idea why seems not take as many mid-range shots this year so far. He's proven himself in that area so I don't know why. With Danny Green on the floor it's basically 4 on 5. He's been a nonfactor so far.

Danny is mentally soft and thats a given. He shoots the lights out some nights but if you put pressure on him he is useless at times. Kawhi is still young so I will give him time, but yes I wish he would do what you said more often. Marco? Time will tell if he has it in the playoffs, would not count him out though asa he hit some big shots in CHI last year and was good against Brooklyn in round one. He might have it.
Neal could shoot you out of a game too with a bad shot or two way out of the flow of the offense, but as you said he was fearless and would let it fly and that is rare in the league.

Seriously? I would hate on Neal. I like the guy but he isn't anymore clutch than, say Green is. That has been blown out of proportion.
At Dallas 2 seasons ago he was fouled behind the 3pt line and missed the last freethrow. That would have tied the game. Dallas scored on the following possession and we lost after he missed a 3 at the buzzer.
At Clippers (same season) missed a free throw that would have tied the game with less than 30 seconds. Clippers hit a jumper and we missed on the following possession. We were going to foul and extend the game, but Foye threw a terrible inbound pass and that Paul bobbled and Neal caught and hit a 3.
He cost of 1 directly and nearly cost us another 1. Also in the Heat "rest game" game he had
All in the final 2:43 (We were up 95-91)
-Personal foul on Ray Allen (made 2 free throws)-95-93
-Made 3-98-93
-Offensive Foul (Lebron 1-2 at free throw line)-98-94
-Miss 17 footer
-Miss 3 pointer
-Miss 9 footer
We lost 100-105
Also last season, he gave up a late 3 that allowed Memphis to tie, after Neal left Conley wide open with 35 seconds left.
He could get to the line on occasion, he also developed a floater that he could use off the dribble. But Belinelli is certainly a better fit. He is hitting 54% of his 3's in our offense thus far. Last season, on a poor offensive team) he still managed to shoot 39% 3pt. He also can legitimately create for others, something Neal couldn't ever do. I wish him the best but we upgraded.
