Marc Stein ‏@ESPNSteinLine

Spurs just announced Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili are being rested tonight against Golden State ... with Tony Parker (shin) still out, too.

Ayres will be getting 40 minutes.

Realistically, this is good. We can give players like Thomas, Baynes, and Joseph minutes to prove themselves. Mills should start considering he looks like TP9 whenever he plays against Golden State. Ayres might get the start, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Diaw get it either. Thomas should get a few minutes too.

Fans of every team hate Stern. Laker fans literally call the Spurs the "San Antonio $terns" because they think Stern helped us win championships due to his relationship with Peter Holt.

Non-laker teams think Stern helps the Lakers because they're a big market team and there's lots of ad revenue on the line.

It's comical and it's all bull shit.

FromWayDowntown
12-19-2013, 05:01 PM
My guess would be that the Spurs notified the league ahead of time (and probably the Warriors) and got an okay on this decision. Part of Stern's rant last year was that the Spurs hadn't provided those notifications ahead of time, so I doubt they skipped that step this time.

To summarize, I don't like the guy but I don't hate him either. I'm totally apathetic to Stern.

I do think him fining us $250k last season was a slight against the Spurs given that the Heat and Celtics essentially did the same thing, but $250k doesn't affect Spurs fans so I don't really care.

Fans aren't fucked. They know what comes with buying a ticket to a game now a days.

If you buy a ticket to a Spurs game that is the third in four nights or the fifth in seven nights, and particularly if that game is a road game against a quality team, you do so at your own jeopardy. I think that's a pretty well-established thing by now.

Agreed. Problem is, people don't do their homework. They just pick the game they want to go to, yet fail to look at the schedule prior to that game. I think we can all agree that April is a month to stay away from going to the games.

I want to see if Thomas is consistent with that 3pt shot and can play defense. Should be a good game to try Baynes against Bogut. Joseph I think needs the playing time more than anybody as he has not played in the D-League this season(and it shows).

I'm all good with the Spurs doing this, but if I'm TNT, I'm apoplectic right now. The Spurs did the exact same thing last year (vs Miami) while playing on TNT. These networks plan to broadcast these nationally televised games months in advance, and the Spurs not playing their stars when these games finally come is like spitting in their face.

We'll see how many times the Spurs play on TNT in the future. You just CAN'T do this when the game is going to be nationally televised.

Blame the NBA for their shit scheduling. Like Sean said on FSSW last night, the Spurs were already in Cali playing the Clips so why not have them play the Warriors next instead of having to fly down to Phoenix to play the Suns and then back to Cali the same night to play the Warriors the next day?

No, you're generalizing. I live in the Bay Area so I don't get many opportunities to see the team live. I DID my homework and worried the team might do this but I got the tickets anyways because I'm a fan and again, don't have the chance to see them too often because of where I live.

Peter Holt has many millions to spare. A $250k fine doesn't phase someone with his kind of net worth, although interestingly enough Holt is probably on the lower end of NBA owners in terms of net worth.
