Sometimes you watch the whale, and other times, the whale watches you.
Whale-watchers in Argentina recently learned that firsthand when a whale hid under their boat (http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/whale-under-boat-amazing-pictures-2940085). Fortunately, photographer Justin Hofman (http://www.justin-hofman.com/) was in the water at the time and managed to capture the incredible moment.
(Story continues below.)
http://i.huffpost.com/gen/1524968/thumbs/o-WHALE-900.jpg?6

In a well-timed photo, a southern right whale swims beneath a whale-watching vessel off the coast of the Valdes Peninsula.According to the photographer, a calf was floating alongside the mother whale at the time.
"Swimming along with a curious right whale calf (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2526204/Were-going-need-bigger-boat-Breathtaking-pictures-50-tonne-whale-calves-swim-underneath-vessel.html) was nerve-racking [sic]. At any moment I thought 'mom' was eventually going to get annoyed with me and swat me with her 15-foot tail -- and I'd be a goner," Hofman recalled, according to the Daily Mail. "Yet, with every passing minute we felt more comfortable around each other and they became curious about us and would make closer passes."
Hofman, who works as a wildlife photographer, had the permission of Argentine authorities to dive with the whales in the protected lagoons (http://photos.justin-hofman.com/Southern-Right-Whales) near the Valdes Peninsula.
Southern right whales (http://www.nmfs.noaa.gov/pr/species/mammals/cetaceans/rightwhale_southern.htm), native to the Southern Hemisphere, flock to the warm waters off the coast of the peninsula every year to raise their offspring.

I believe this is real tbh. I know someone here is sort of an expert in graph analyzing, like he can find out the exact location of some girl's home in a city he's never been to, by only a picture of her home postered on facebook. But this one ain't fake imho

How did the relative distances change by about a 2:1 between whale and boat, when both are horizontal to the camera, between these two shots?

I will stick with the fake idea. Besides, the Huff~n~Puff post article gets it's pictures from a tabloid, called The daily Mirror.

The whale in the pic is a baleen whale, they don't have teeth, they just eat krill and plankton.

I question two things.

The fact there is no watersplash on the camera window, and the perspective distances. I think two images were superimposed.

The title is totally wrong anyway. the boat of unsuspecting "boarders' has a diver that went whale hunting. I went to a sight that had several pictures, and I agree they [most] were real. I simply think some of the pictures were doctored for effect.

I've used a photomagnahelical triangulation manometer to determine the approximate size of the whale (not perfect, within .0000000003microns) and I've cross referenced that with Google Earth's "Stalk Me" app and I've determined that the picture is not a fake, despite what other so called "experts" in this thread have said.

Like all of my work, this does not require peer review or scrutiny. I am, after all, smarter than you.

But I guess if someone could fake a pic that looked so real, he would've probably never made such a mistake that's so stupid and recognizable imho. There might be exceptions (like our goddess), but generally speaking, I don't believe someone with a college degree would ever get out-brained by someone else who doesn't have one tbh

I've taken quite a few pictures like that and even some videos.

The front port on professional UW cameras is a dome, not only do the droplets slide off faster/better because of the shape of the front port, but you're also supposed to keep it super clean and smooth because underwater bubbles of air have this nasty habbit of sticking to the port and ruining pictures all of this means that if you keep the port above water for a few seconds chances are you won't get any water spots.

As for the weird perspective that too is correct. Objects in the underwater part of the pictures appear to be much closer because of light refraction (if memory serves objects underwater appear a third larger - don't quote me though as to the exact number).
