I don't fault him too much for that god awful air ball tbh because if he didnt get that nice offensive rebound he never would have even had an attempt at that shot.

I didn't think he could top his awful free throw from a season or two ago...but that shot was awful.

He got the offensive rebound and rushed the shoot. So Splitter. Probably he had no one to pass since everybody were running to the defense too.

No never in 5 bazillion NBA games played in the last 50 years. It's the first bad play good play ever.

He probably either thought Bogut would attempt a block or more likely he thought he was closer to the basket(?) IDK, but that is ugly and beautiful all at the same time! Spurs win, baby!

I only listened to this on radio but it sure looks like Clay Thompson shot and missed allowing Splitter to put back.

Warriors' bench reaction to the air ball is pretty funny

It is pretty funny that Splitter is one of the softest offensive players I've ever seen, while simultaneously being one of the toughest defensive players in the league:lol..

LMFAO. As soon as I read your headline, I knew exactly what this thread was. Horrible play. But I'm glad he got it right when we needed it the most.

Only because it wasn't called.

And in the world of professional sports, that is all that matters. Officials are God. Right or wrong.

I am not saying that Splitter is a great finisher, but from this angle you can see he was being pushed by both defenders on the shot. It would seem that could explain why it was so short. So I actually don't think this is a play to call him out on.

What's the rule for goaltending? Not even a smidge of the ball can be in the cylinder when you tip it?

RD2191
12-20-2013, 05:17 PM
What's even the point of that rule? Why is it illegal to tip it in?

I think he is saying it's a horrible fuckin shot no matter how you spin it.

IIRC, the ball cannot be over the cylinder when you touch it. Even if it's clearly coming off the rim, it can't be touched until it's no longer above the cylinder at all.

I don't believe I was spinning anything. I posted a clear picture showing Splitter being fouled by two players on the shot attempt. I admit when I was watching the game live that when he shot it, I cursed him for always going up seemingly so softly, but that picture from that angle seems like at least a small justification for the shot being so far off.

Given that it was a game winner, I think the refs, even reviewing the vid after the game, would say it was "let 'em play" play call, like they don't call lots of fouls, violations in the closing seconds. eg, fish blatantly clobbering bones' 3G on the last shot of the game, no FTs, Spurs lose.

To me, that's the definition of a "soft" player: any nudge or niggle while they're shooting dramatically alters their shot. A player that goes up "strong" is able to withstand significantly more contact & still make the shot.

I agree, as I would rather he tried to dunk it than finesse it in so much.

So from the top-down replay it looks like that was actually a missed goaltending call, no?
