Reggie didn't go off (when Danny covered him). Fisher didn't go nuts. Durant had a pretty poor shooting night while guarded by Kawhi. Kawhi himself played extremely well. Tony used to dominate Westbrook (which is why Sefo was put on him), didn't happen this game. Ibaka wasn't the black Larry bird. We had a shitload of turnovers, and tired legs, which cost us the game. They're a good team, but saying all these games play the same, well, just isn't true.

Jackson still went off, Parker and Duncan again struggled mightily, Ibaka was probably the player of the game and on top of all that, the offense once again broke down, they had that bewildered, lacking confidence look and were pushed around. Same old story.
And Fisher even dominated Beli... Pop couldn't believe that shit, like he didn't know who he signed...

Nonsense. Jackson was kept in check, Fisher was kept in check, Ibaka was kept away from his jumper, KD was kept in check while Kawhi wasn't in foul trouble, and the offense was perfectly fine until the 2nd half, when we had obvious tired legs. lol "lacking confidence look"... more like pissed off look for giving the ball away. It happens. Thunder are a good team and are going to take advantage of that. The Spurs played that game pretty well, considering the circumstances, and nothing like the previous games where their bench abused ours.

That's the spirit I guess.
But the most disappointing thing for me was the gameplan to post up was ineffective, Perkins nullified Tim... Tiago was a no show per par, when he could back up his man he couldn't finish and Boris was too loose with the ball... If we can't post them we literally have zero shot, we need to put a body on Ibaka on offense... The mavs do well against them simply because they have Dirk to torch Ibaka and fully occupy him... Imo it'll will take an epic effort from Boris to win a series... He has the talent but who knows if he can actually do it consistently...
And they won easily without Ibaka going off and these kind of things, tells you how dominant they are defensively...

There's a lot of things the Spurs didn't do right, and some matchup issues that are evident. But there were some positives too. It's a regular season game to see what you can improve on, and what not, and I think the Spurs did that. I think an eventual series would play fairly different. There's only so much you can draw away from these games.

Jackson went off again, Ibaka altered about 37 shots, the offense once again couldn't handle their combination of length/freakish athleticism/pressure/propensity for being aided by officials more than any team since the O'Neal led Lakers.

- Jackson scored 14 in 30 mins... his season average after he completely torched us in an earlier game
- Ibaka was 5-11, most of his points coming from the paint.
- Fisher was 1-3 for 6 points total, far from his usual Spur killer ways.
- The Spurs played great all the way to the 2nd half, even with Kawhi in foul trouble and the ref help for the home team.
- Danny Green did a solid work on Jackson, he actually scored when Danny was *not* on him.
- Kawhi did a phenomal job on Durant while he was allowed.
- Pop clearly threw the game early, since he knows he rather have the fresh legs and there's nothing else to prove for this team.
Sure, the Spurs had issues of their own, namely turnovers, the ever disappointing Splitter in these matchups, poor outside shooting, tired legs, etc... if they would've played better, they would've probably won. But there are positives to take from that game too.
It's clear OKC feels we're the measuring stick and they always go all out against us... that probably won't change until they actually win something...

- Jackson still torched them. Who cares about the minutes? Look at the volume of the points and the efficiency and ease with which they were scored.
- As I said, Ibaka altered an insane amount of shots.
- "All the way to the 2nd half" equals half a game and really, the game started slipping from around mid 2nd on
- Pop wanted the game (which is why Duncan and Parker played in the first place), he just didn't want people to know and wanted to somewhat spare the team's psyche from another beat down to those assholes, so he didn't bother re-inserting them
There were no positives. It was one big resounding negative, because it was all so familiar. Had it looked different and they just ran out of gas towards the end, it wouldn't have been a big deal, considering the fatigue/no Ginobili factors.
Yeah, they're clearly always up for the Spurs. At this point, I'm not sure it's about them being a measuring stick for them as much as it is inflicting as much damage on the Spurs psyche as possible. They know they're in their heads.

- Jackson scored his season average (14). How's that torching them if that's what he scores against every team? IIRC, he dropped 20+ earlier in the season, which means this time he was kept in check.
- The game started slipping when Kawhi got into foul trouble. I don't think that's going to happen every game. Heck, I don't remember him being in foul trouble in all previous games. And we kept a lead going to the 2nd half. That's being in the game.
- If Pop wanted the game he doesn't sits everyone in the 3rd when it's a 14pt game. He won't do that if it's a playoff game, which are actually the games that Pop *really* want to win. I think the players asked to play, and Pop obliged, up to an extent.
It was a game where Pop experimented a bit with the bench, with generally good results. The actual lack of Gino, IMO, had a lot to do with that: how does the bench responds against a bench that burned them previously without their leader, and outside of Beli, who is notorious for needing Gino around, that worked well, IMO. Patty played well, he found that Green can cover Jackson, and generally they kept up. That's what it's all about.
If Pop wants to win the game badly, he doesn't keep Tim, Tony and Kawhi under 28mins each. He just doesn't. Especially when it was a 8pt game sometime in the 4th quarter and the Thunder were still playing Durant and Westbrook.
And why would they want to inflict any kind of damage to the Spurs if they don't think we're the measuring stick? You would think if we're so easy to beat, they would just coast.

I'm not going to continue to go back and forth on every point; we'll just have to agree to disagree on the vast majority. But I will touch on the Pop not wanting the game nonsense. We've seen this from him many times over the years. This pretending he doesn't care, yet doing things that suggest otherwise. Like, before he realized it was a lost cause roughly two thirds of the way through the game, playing a tight 8 man rotation and having Duncan and Parker on pace for high 30's minutes, despite it being their 5th game in 7 nights. If he truly didn't care, he's not doing that.

Like, before he realized it was a lost cause roughly two thirds of the way through the game, playing a tight 8 man rotation and having Duncan and Parker on pace for high 30's minutes, despite it being their 5th game in 7 nights. If he truly didn't care, he's not doing that.
Fair enough. We'll probably never know, but I think Pop just wanted to rest them and they requested to play. We've heard plenty of times players saying they have to talk and convince Pop to play them. Especially Manu and Tony. I think Pop gave them a minute limit and stuck to it (I also think Kawhi didn't play more because of foul trouble and nothing else).

Not surprisingly, you're too stupid to realize that Ibaka playing in the first two games could have very well swung the series. I'd have known that in December, I'd have said they've got a shot.
In the end though, not only did the Spurs got the desired result, but technically no one was wrong, because we'll never know with any certainty whether he would have or not.

the series was 2-2 after ibaka came back, when 3 of those 4 games were in OKC. maybe if you weren't such a cliff-diver you wouldn't get negative responses tbh

If you're referring to the needing to make a significant trade part, again, if Ibaka plays those first two games, we'll never know if that would have been necessary or not.

Removed one of Ginobili or Leonard for the first two games of this series and let's say the Spurs go on to lose in six . . . you're telling me Spurs fans aren't bringing that up as a reason as to why (rightfully so, obviously)? There's excuses and then there's reasons.
Despite the perception, I have no problem admitting when I'm wrong and the rare times I have been on this forum, I've owned up to them.

Ibaka came back and played 4 games, 3 of those 4 being in OKC, and the Spurs still went 2-2 in those games, with a home game 7 in the bag just in case

That doesn't change the two he missed. When you're as close as these two teams, things like your third best player (who just so happens to disrupt your opponents offense like no other) missing a third of the series kind of matters.

Ibaka's impact will obviously look larger considering 3 of the 4 games he played in happened to be in OKC anyway, which are games they have a solid chance to win with or without him

As if there wasn't enough evidence beforehand that he makes a major difference, particularly against the Spurs.
The notion that they're damn near unbeatable at home is overplayed, too. They've repeatedly lost close games to good teams their this season.

I think the Spurs have a pretty good roster for the moment but they need more athletes on the team.
Disagree about Splitter. As frustrating and soft he can be sometimes, he's still the only legit big we have next to Duncan that is actually talented. Baynes and Ayres aren't anything special. I'm more content with shipping out Danny Green, who has reached his limitations.

Really embarrassed for the Spurs tonight, no reason why we can't play defense. Danny Green is worthless, Boris dose pump fakes way too much on open shots. Kawhi or no kawhi Durant didn't kill us it was Westbrook and Reggie Jackson. No athletic guys who can stay in front of scorers who have length. Tiago as a defensive stalwart as he can be is useless on offense. Portland will fall off but OKC barring injury is our biggest task and I don't see a formula for winning.

Christmas, last second shopping, making a list and checking it twice, family coming to town, Marco Belinelli... It's a frantic couple of weeks. Not a very good bump though. Last year's team didn't lose its 11th game until Jan 26th. The western conference is also much deeper this year so it won't be as easy chasing down the top seeds. Last year's team couldn't beat Elite teams early in the season. This year's team is losing to everyone. They've already racked up some pretty embarrassing losses... Brooklyn, Utah, Phoenix, LAL. Can't get those games back, tbh.

IIRC, last season's team was largely healthy though... I think Kiwi's hand injury and Tony's week off didn't come until jab-Feb...

When this team falls flat on its face this season, you'll pull the "they weren't ready" excuse, but when the third best player on the Thunder, who disrupted the Spurs offense like no other, missed a third of the WCF and came back early from his injury (and has never been the same since), somehow that supposedly didn't matter. :wakeup
