Any thoughts where I can get a decent Android phone for real cheap (thinking $30-$40 bucks)
- Won't be activated, so carrier doesn't matter
- Would like at least a 4.5" screen, resolution no smaller than 800x600 or so
- Must be able to run Android 4.1 or better
- Don't care if it's used
Doing some Android dev at the moment and I'd like to have at least one device to test on, but I'm going the extremely cheap route if possible. Wasn't able to find much on Amazon nor ebay.

why not just buy some phone and write it off as a tax expense?
then write off a further expense deduction for research and development for programming that thing?

Well, I think your 800 wide will be 800 x 480. As for a price, good like finding your criteria that cheap.

Thanks for the suggestions. I know it's a long shot, that's why I was asking.
Walmart had a $120 prepaid for $35 during Black Friday but there was no more stock 15 mins later. I figured there might be some either old or Chinese that might have something like that. Prices on these devices are seriously sinking. If I gotta pay over $100, I might just get a 7" Nexus tablet.

Won't even touch the cellular network. This is just to plug into a computer and test our apps. Do need some 'middle of the road' specs since that's what we're targeting as minimum requirements.

Galaxy S2 would be your closest bet for those specs and size.

The HTC One S or X is probably also around the same price as S2 ($150), with 4.3-4.7" screen and 720p resolution.
EDIT: Maybe Galaxy Nexus can be had cheap:

If you're willing to plunk down $150+ for a secondhand phone, why not just add a little extra and get a Moto G?
You're getting a lot of phone for that price.

Yes, 800x480 is very noticeable on a 4.7 inch screen. It was noticeable on a 4.2 inch. Thou won't die, but it doesn't compare to 720p or 1080p

fck desperately needing a smart phone...only use it to you know what if you know what i mean as a video player...
doubt u can notice any pixels while watchin on a shitty screen like 800x480 wga ....
even anything b4 the iphone4 was bs resolutions, if u can put up with those earlier phones, then the later models with shit resolutions will be no problem right? im not using it for anything else besides as portable video/mp3 player

It's not that bad if you want a cheap portable music video player and phone. I assume you want one with a microSD card.
