Mike D'Antoni: I made a mistake

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- After a night's rest to clear his head, Los Angeles Lakers (http://espn.go.com/nba/team/_/name/lal/los-angeles-lakers) coach Mike D'Antoni backtracked from comments he made following a 117-90 loss to the Phoenix Suns (http://espn.go.com/nba/team/_/name/phx/phoenix-suns)on Monday, when he suggested that fans who are discouraged by the Lakers this season should "find another team to root for."
"I was an idiot last night," D'Antoni said after a light practice Tuesday in advance of the Lakers' Christmas Day showdown with the Miami Heat (http://espn.go.com/nba/team/_/name/mia/miami-heat). "I was out of my mind. I was ticked off. We didn't play well and said some stuff I shouldn't have. It was stupid. That's me, I just made a mistake."
[+] Enlargehttp://a.espncdn.com/photo/2013/1223/nba_a_lakerssad_gb1_300x200.jpg (http://a.espncdn.com/photo/2013/1223/nba_a_lakerssad_gb1_600x400.jpg)AP Photo/Ross D. FranklinCoach Mike D'Antoni says telling discouraged Lakers fans to find another team to root for was "stupid."

D'Antoni, who has guided L.A. to a 13-15 start despite major injuries to Kobe Bryant (http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/110/kobe-bryant), Steve Nash (http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/592/steve-nash), Steve Blake (http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/1994/steve-blake) andJordan Farmar (http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/3002/jordan-farmar), also attempted to clarify his postgame remarks.
"To me, the meaning is this: We got a team that needs to overachieve and we have a lot of injuries and we're in a tough state right now," said D'Antoni, referring to the Lakers losing six of their last nine games, including two straight by a combined 46 points. "So, we need everybody to be pulling with us and it's going to take the whole village to get this done. That was the meaning. I just said it wrong and it came out wrong because I was agitated. But I apologize, and we'll move on. But we need everybody to be behind these guys. They're going to play as hard as they can play."
That will start Wednesday when the Lakers and Heat play on Christmas for the fifth time in their franchises' history (three times when Shaquille O'Neal played for Miami and the other coming in 2010, in the first Christmas game since LeBron James (http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/1966/lebron-james) and Chris Bosh (http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/1977/chris-bosh) joined the Heat).
Miami (21-6) enters Wednesday having won five games in a row and seven of their last eight. James is averaging 25.4 points, 6.9 rebounds and 6.6 assists while shooting 59.9 percent from the field and 41.7 percent from 3-point range.

"He's playing at a very, very high level," D'Antoni said of James, who will be defended by Wes Johnson (http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/4247/wesley-johnson). "He gets better every year, which is scary. You try to give him his outside shot, now he's shooting 40 percent from 3s, but that's what you kind of want him to do. You don't want him to get to the rim. You don't want to foul him. If you can eliminate that, good luck, but you try to do that and you try to contain as much as you can."
L.A. has performed well in a couple of marquee games this season, notably winning their opening night matchup against the Los Angeles Clippers (http://espn.go.com/nba/team/_/name/lac/los-angeles-clippers), and also downing the Houston Rockets (http://espn.go.com/nba/team/_/name/hou/houston-rockets) on the road in their first reunion game with Dwight Howard (http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/2384/dwight-howard).
Can they come up big again?
"We got to rise to the occasion," D'Antoni said. "That's another chance to try to do that."
Regardless of the lull the Lakers have found themselves in or the result of their game against the Heat, D'Antoni stayed bullish about his team.
"I'm proud because of the way their attitude and the way they approach each game," D'Antoni said. "They've gotten tired lately. Our energy has sagged because of guys logging heavy minutes. We just got to keep them up, keep them focused and keep them believing and see if we can get this done. And I think we can."

Real talk if there was a team named the Kobes and it was just Kobe on it, you'd drop your Laker fan card like hot garbage to satiate your need to gargle Kobe's nuts.

This is barrell's bottom. It's why I hung onto '10 with all my might, tried to stop the clocks, freeze the frame. I feel badly for Mike. He's only suffered. I can reach back into the memories and lose myself in it's parts and pieces, and it's completed pictures. I still see Kupchak in Boston in '85, that knee shattered and shackled impacting on Championship day. And Daddy at the ropes in the Indy Finals, that look of such agony, his bald head wrinkled from the consternation,it just took all the joy out of it, but, one understood. They wanted to destroy him so badly and were denied everything. And I see Vuj in '10 making those ft's, coming to the bench and sharing them with Bryant. And I remember Worthy, his voice breaking trying to convey to Musburger in '87, talking about getting it back home and achieving his own redemption there in California.

I love it so.

I called 6, prophesied it, but you'd not know because you were on tour. Unlike you, I don't live in the past. It happens, I enjoy or mourn it for a brief period and move on. It's a new season, it's about now.

DMC was only half right about the Spurs last season imho. He said the Heat would end up winning it (which turned out to be true) unlike most spursfans who indulged themselves in the dream of championship #5 that would never come (not in Duncan's epoch at least), but he was also half wrong because he said after 4 games that the Heat would win the series in 6. He predicted the Heat would win both game 5 and 6, based upon the postulation that the Heat wouldn't want to put the series to a game-7 battle of Yamasaki, but was exactly what happened. DMC stuck to his "Heat will win" prediction which almost proved wrong again in the last 30secs of game 6... Allen's 3 didn't just save Bron's career, but also DMC's posting career imho.

Most Laker fans are media sheep, tbh..

D'Antoni is coaching a team full of scrubs to a .500 record in the West, yet Laker fan still hates him because he was one of the 2 scapegoats for the Kobe failure in 2012-2013, second to Howard..

D'Antoni was also the scapegoat for Carmelo/Knicks failures, and as we have seen post-D'Antoni, nothing has changed with Carmelo and the Knicks:lol..

Like most Spur fans. Pop hires a rapist and it's shaved pussy. Pop conspires with Jackson & Diaw to quit so he can reap the harvest and it's shaved pussy. Pop fosters an arena where group sex and wife swapping is prevalent and it's shaved pussy. Pop gets his clock cleaned in Florida and it's shaved pussy. Pop runs around like a jackass shaking hands with everybody with his clean clock and it's shaved pussy.

Hell, you didn't even need an excape goat, Spur fans.

Exactly. That's the contract he's on. During that contract he rang twice, back-to-back. Of course Media knew that, but, that wasn't going to sell any "newspapers."

You don't get to take the back-to-back part of the contract and forget the rest. That's why there is the contract. You have to take the bad with the good.
