I read a book that was the first in a series years ago, that with the recent discussion about books I'd like to read again.
Basic story was: Post-apocalypse Earth, militaristic faction living underground, chocked full of technology, main character has a "gift" for pre-cognition and is in the flight training program. Survivors above ground characters draw remind of Indiaon during the 1800's (living off the land, stuff like that). There were "trains" that were like aircraft carriers. Main character gets downed, lives among the folks above ground, gains understanding of their life, yada, yada, yada.
Title had something like "Iron" in it.
Anyone else know of this, or am I chasing ghosts?
