View Full Version : Peyton Manning did not break Brees record - media hype picking up. NFL to review

it was a lateral pass that should not have counted. therefor making it a 7 yard rushing play and the 7 yards he was awarded as a pass on that play should be taken away. it's clear as day. that would then result in his season total to be at 5,470 yards (Brees record 5,476). the NFL will be looking into this play as the internet hype has picked up. they take away plays like this on a weekly basis after reviewing them, will they do the right thing here or protect Manning?
Look at the midfield logo in both shots. Manning lets the pass go next to the "E" of the Raiders logo. Decker is still behind the "E" and closer to the second "R" when he catches the ball. So, it certainly looks like a lateral. And if the NFL also believed that, Manning's total passing yardage would drop back down to second place behind Brees.

If they (THE NFL) can take away yardage from a QB's stats after the game is final via viewing videotape, then they had better let the K.C. kicker try his field goal to win the game as videotape proved San Diego had 7 players lined up illegal on that missed attempt which is a penalty. K.C gets 5 yards and retry the kick to get the Steelers in the playoffs....FAIR IS FAIR NFL!!!"

And this is coming from a Patriots fan. I could have cared less about Brady's record. If he doesn't ring, I'll be here to shit on him. But Manning had a phenomenal season and even if they took the 7 yards off his totals, he still wins the MVP.

I'm simply stating the facts and reporting the news. I haven't cried once about Manning taking the record. he needed more pass attempts and less accuracy to do it, but records are meant to be broken.
however ... this was a huge blown call that needs to be corrected when you consider the fact that it's a history breaking record. if anything Manning is stupid for not staying out there and throwing another completion or two to beat the record by 20-30 yards or so. he was already stat padding with a 4 score lead anyways.

I don't think the NFL should take that record away from Manning. While I don't think it really matters to Peyton all that much, the NFL is walking a very thin rope with it's fans due to all the dumb fucking rules they've put in place, now to take away a record from a guy that is so well like all around the country when they did the Raiders a favor by not not playing him at all in the 2nd half seems sort of foolish.

Because the league screws up all the time and they don't go back and "fix" it.
I don't know, maybe I'm wrong. I think the TD mark is far more impressive so it wouldn't bother me one way or the other. My thought process is all the sudden "Peyton" fans that I talk to nowadays, I feel like they would be the one's in the uproar.
As an aside, it's obnoxious as shit to see all the Broncos fans that have suddenly appeared over the last year. They all say the same thing, "I'm really just a big Peyton fan".
Peyton would have padded it some more if the record had not been broken on a TD pass. I think the novelty of him throwing a TD on the same play is what caused him to not pad it. Oh the irony if the NFL pulls the record.

This is true, these records have more to do with Goodell and the owners pussifying the league and banning defense than anything the players are doing, tbh....

Truth bombs. :lol people acting like Peyton didn't stat pad just as much as 2011 Brees or 2007 Brady.
All 3 QBs vultured touchdowns when they didn't need to, ran a no huddle passing offense when they didn't need to, and are not in any way comparable to Marino's 5,000 yard season when corners were allowed to cover and when teams didn't go no huddle the entire game with 3+ WR formations.

I remember Marino's 1984 season. He was an absolute phenomenon that year. No one had ever seen any QB put up anywhere near those kinds of numbers. He not only broke but destroyed (by 12 TDs) a passing-touchdown record that had stood for more than two decades. Incredible.

Yes he had 18 ints that year, still had over 100 rating and that 48 and 5084 yards at the time was unheard of. I agree on all you said. He was the prototypical QB if you ask me, just made to throw the football.

I didn't know this and only checked cause I was curious not cause I wanted to pretend I did, but compared to the other QBs in 1984 Marino's interception total was pretty good. His INT% that year was 6th lowest in the NFL (3.0%). 2 of the 5 QBs ahead of him were total game managers, and the other 3 were studs. Given how much the rest of his team relied on him and how mediocre his teammates were, I'm impressed he didn't throw more picks.

His INT% that year was 6th lowest in the NFL (3.0%). 2 of the 5 QBs ahead of him were total game managers, and the other 3 were studs. Given how much the rest of his team relied on him and how mediocre his teammates were, I'm impressed he didn't throw more picks.
sure, in that era more interceptions were certainly common. still, over a pick a game for his career. i wasn't trying to knock him. heck i praised him more than anything

Broncos were an above average run offense this year..ducks acts like Peyton completely disregarded it. But yeah, when you have Peyton and 4 great receiving threats you should be a run-first offense. Makes sense

son I always get a kick out of these "fans" who have teams spread out all over the country in different sports.
the ONLY legit ones are people who have actually lived in those states at one point or another or knows someone personally on the team. anyone who is a Denver Bronco fan TODAY that doesn't live in that surrounding area is a front runner plain and simple.

Peyton could've blown this shit out, similar to Marino's record in 2005. I'm sure he's done some stat padding at times, all these guys want to impress especially for future contracts, but he's also respectful of the game as well.
Agree about Marino, I grew up thinking he was the best passer, watched some recent youtube and realized he's still the best pure passer I've seen. If he played today, it would be similar to how I used him on Tecmo Bowl, just tearing shit up.
